About Caitlyn DuskeCaitlyn Duske
Background:
Caitlyn grew up in a household of testosterone in the capital city of Thane, Feld Forge. Her mother died during her child birth, leaving her with four older competitive brothers and a hardworking businessman for a father. She grew up quickly without religion in her life, turning to trickery and jokes to pass the time. She was a prankster growing up, all play and practical jokes all the time. People know they were in trouble when they heard her squeaky giggle around town. Her practical jokes eventually turned into mischievousness and it wasn’t long before she often found herself being reprimanded for breaking the rules.
For two generations Duske Industries operated as a successful business that manufactured firearms of all varieties for the military and wealthy collectors. Her father and all four of her brothers worked in the business, and Caitlyn was expected to join as well when the time was right. That time was at the ripe age of elven when she started working part time in the factory performing cleaning duties. By the time she was fourteen she was assisting in the factory and by her seventeenth year of life she was helping her father with new designs and plans. Firearms had been an integral part of her family for as long as she could remember, both at and away from work. At home, her brothers often customized pistols or made unique rifles to compete with in local shooting competitions. Her oldest brother was even invited to join the military as a sharpshooter, a highly regarded post she was told. The military was something she never truly understood nor cared for, their style of life was regimented and by the book. Caitlyn lived to break the rules, not something the military was known to like. At eighteen, Caitlyn’s family bid and won on a high value contract that would require a large supply of ettunium to fulfill. Since the contract was too lucrative to risk failure, her father and brothers undertook the retrieval operation themselves. Though begging to accompany them, her father forbade it due to the danger and risk associated with task. Though he was right to be concerned, no one knew at the time just how dangerous it would be. Caitlyn snuck aboard the caravan as it departed and waited a day before revealing herself. Too far to turn back due to the tight timeline, her father relented and let her stay on the trip. The Jinga Corporation, a competitor to Duske, lost the high value contract that Duske won and promptly sabotaged the Duske family operation to ensure failure. After picking up their supply of ettunium, their ship broke down in the worst possible location. It wasn’t long before these shapeless creature swarmed them and her family members quickly began losing their lives. Her memories of that day are dark, and she relives the terror often as the massacre plays out in her mind. The one vivid memory she does retain is being plucked out of her hiding spot and held off the ground, inches away from the formless. She struggled mightily, but couldn't break free. With everyone on the ship dead, her screams of horror fell on deaf ears as she waited for death to arrive. Instead, it simply dropped her on the floor as it rejoined the others and fleed from the ship. How she survived and why she wasn’t killed along with her family plague her every day. The harrowing experience changed Caitlyn, much of her humor and carefree attitude dying along with her family that day. Though she tried to keep it running, the business shuttered without her father and brothers, she just didn't have the business sense or ambition to run a business. She often day dreamed of finding those responsible for her the death of her family and enacting revenge, but those were just dreams, weren't they? At first, she took whatever odd jobs she could, gaining a reputation as a reliable shot and a "tough girl" despite her stature due to her recognizable name. Eventually Caitlyn took it upon herself to undertake dangerous ettunium retrieval missions under the guise of making big money, but she secretly hoped she could find formless and exterminate them. Or be exterminated herself. Whichever came first. Principles:
Caitlyn survives on three principles:
1) Live fast and loose, don’t get attached.
