Caim is the firstborn son to a distinguished officer of the Cheliax military, and a woman who once had a history of dabbling in magic. Rinish Sevíré looked at his son on the day that he was born and proudly claimed that Caim would be a great fighter, just as his father had been.
Caim wasn’t interested.
While growing up, Caim’s father had him and his two brothers learn the art of the blade, and had them exercise them rigorously so that they would become perfect soldiers. However, Caim had no interest in just waving a sword around for a living. Oh, the ability to fight with a blade was a useful one, but he had no interest in living by the sword.
Caim’s interests lay in the path of the arcane.
Behind his father’s back, the eldest heir to the Sevíré family read his mother’s old books, devouring their content and learning to utilise the arcane arts. And he wasn’t just good at magic, he enjoyed magic. Magic gave him a feeling that he’d never achieved with sword-fighting.
Because of this, after learning all he could from his mother’s old books, Caim walked away from his family in order to learn more about the arts.
During his travels, he learnt about the Acadamae of Korvosa. He immediately set his sights on entering and learning from what he had been told was the best. And after some time of trying, he managed to gain entry.
It was a year later that he was expelled, for no fault of his own. Possibly because he was a foreigner, or maybe just bad luck, Caim was framed for murder.
The only witness was intimidated into damning him during his testimony, by one Gaedren Lamm. A result was that Caim was forced from the Acadamae. Now he is after him, hoping for evidence that would clear his name, even if he has now lost all interest in attending the Acadamae ever again.
