Caelan is tall and slender, with both the dusky complexion of his Varisian father and the graceful good looks of his elven mother. He usually keeps his shoulder-length dark hair tied back from getting into his emerald green, almond-shaped eyes. He also sports a neatly trimmed beard. The bard dresses in the traditional Varisian fashion, wearing colorful vests and scarves, usually in shades of red, orange and green. He also has a fondness for golden jewelry, wearing multiple earrings and bracelets.
Caelan is easy to smile, and his general demeanor is very easy-going and easily approachable. Extremely sociable by nature, and coming from a very multicultural background, he is very accepting of those different from himself. He is a free spirit, going where he feels like going and doing what he feels like doing, sometimes not stopping to think of the consequences. Not cruel by any means, Caelan can nonetheless be quite oblivious to the plight of others, always looking out for himself first and foremost. He dislikes violence, doing his best to talk himself out of trouble. Even when words fail, he avoids physical combat, seeking other ways to aid his companions.
Being a fiercely independent person, Caelan does not often turn to religion. When he does, his favored deity is Calistria, whose worship fits the wandering minstrel's hedonistic lifestyle like a glove. The name of the Savored Sting is also quickly on his lips on those rare moments when he does lose his temper. He occasionally also prays to Desna for guidance on the road, and gladly raises his cup to Cayden Cailean when sampling a particularly fine vintage.
BACKGROUND:
Caelan was born to a famed Varisian lutist Nicola Balcescu and Caeladlara, elven singer from the fabled Mierani Forest. He grew up in a very multicultural environment, accompanying his father's wandering troupe up and down the Inner Sea region, from the city-states of Varisia all the way to sun-scorched Qadira. The troupe consisted of many races and nationalities, from the core group of Varisian musicians, to a pair of axe-juggling dwarven brothers, and a particularly extragavant gnomish magician.
Seemingly having inherited both the best and worst qualities of both his parents, Caelan took naturally to the traditional Varisian occupation of the wandering entertainer. At the age of nineteen he struck out on his own, driven to see new fantastic places, meet new interesting people, and maybe learn a new song or two. After wandering alone for a couple of years, he was naturally drawn to the Pathfinder Society. Getting payed well for doing what he had been doing anyway, for whatever he could get playing in taverns here and there, seemed like a dream come true...
DEVELOPMENTS:
VANITIES: Concert Hall (5 PP): Caelan has used some of his influence in the Society to gain the control of a dilapitated old opera house in Absalom. He has done his best to turn it into a venue where wandering musicians of all sorts (mostly Varisians) can mingle and share their passion for music and dance. When he uses Perform (any instrument or sing) to calculate his bonus on Day Job checks, his business grants him a +1 circumstance bonus on all such checks. He also gains a +1 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (history) checks regarding music.
