Origin: (From "The Lost DataSlate")Mechanicum research Station. Characters originating from a Mechanicum Research Station begin play with training in one of the following Skills: Common Lore, Forbidden Lore, Scholastic Lore, orTrade. They also gain the Talented Talent for that specific Skill.
Some background:
Having grew up on a research station there was a plethora of information and technology to be studied, categorized, and decrypted. I however became bored with such mundane searches and wanted to experience the universe for myself. Tired of the lab and limited by my peers and station resources, I began to look outward. But this wasn't until after discovered some Malygris cyphers and began working on them alone. It took many months and study to finally decipher the codex, but what I found was forbiddean knowledge that borderlined heresy. Just by having read them I endangered myself, and there was nothing more to do than destroy the evidence. Perhaps if I found more knowledge like this, then I wouldn't need to continue a meaningless existence. I wanted to find and discover secrets of my own. Unfortunately I didn’t have the skills to survive in the “real” world. My existence hasn’t been easy, but it’s been sheltered and full of education. I feel my flesh and spirit are weak.
I took the time to research and look into what careers would give me the skills necessary to leave and survive beyond the Lathe System. Fascinated with manufacturing and constructing I had always kept my eye on a particular Hive world, Landunder. Not only was the planet unique with its floating cities aided by lost archeotech designs, it had rare minerals and deposits with amazing potential. One such example was the Cyber-Mastiffs constructed there, using rare ocean minerals.
Not wishing to venture forth alone, I reckoned a companion would make up for what I lacked and the training required would help steel me for my journey into the expanse. Getting into the academy for training wasn't easy, it took the pull of a Magos who was grateful for my assistance in some exotic research he was conducting. If he had known the source of my knowledge, perhaps he would'nt of been so quick to aid me. Lastly, my knowledge of armouring allowed me to construct my own Cyber-Mastiff while preparing for my application for transfer and training. I aquired the designs and materials and carefully contructed my own BloodHound from a rare breed of dog I had aquired through trade. It's exceptional abilities surely made the difference in my successful application and graduation, in addition to the significant amoumnt of time I spent preparing to become a Cyber-Mastiff handler. Darwin was a cut above the rest, and as a team we worked well together. Finally equipped with the skills to fully utilise my creation, I aced every test and exam given. Amongst the youngest of candidates to of ever graduated, I lacked the experience, wealth, and connections of other candidates who were already employed and belonging to various factions and organizations. While they had merely bought their mastiffs or built them with the aid of Landunder tech priest, I had shown inititiative and capability. It didn't go unnoticed. My unique and superior Cyber-Mastiff caused scorn from more experienced adepts, but I didn't let their jealousy hold me back.
A free-lancer of sorts I sniffed out Heretics and worked with the Adeptus Arbites. My success through logic and intelligence brought me more work and trust until I caught the eye of a local inquisitor. He asked for my assistance and I found his target within hours. Impressed and looking to recruit such talent at an early age has put me on the radar of higher powers, only time will tell if I'll be destined for more. Meanwhile, while my work hasn’t brought me as far away from the core as I’d like, I know that one day when I’m ready, I will venture forth with my sidekick Darwin (It’s the name of my Dog in real life). While not yet the most impressive companion, we have a bond the warp couldn’t pierce. Overtime we will grow and become better as we sniff out the enemies of humanity and bring them to justice. And, as my skills and resources as an armourer grow, he will be my pride lifelong companion.
While I actively seek to build and aquire more cyber familiars to enhance my skills and better serve my employers, I can't help but relish the freedom and knowledge of fabled Maleteks. I envy their freedom of discovery, knowledge of xenos, and ability to push the bounds of innovation.
Perhaps one day I shall reach ranks high enough to be bestowed an Omnissian Rod and command the respect of all my peers while furthering the reaches of the Emporer and the Adeptus Mechanicus.
