About Caan the Unfettered
Summary
Caan the Unfettered is a Fledgling Cleric of Groetus: The God of the End of the World. He was birthed beneath the World’s Edge Mountains, the child of an unfortunate young captive enslaved by the Gouged Eye Orc tribe.
Caan’s life there was almost as miserable as his mother’s. Groomed from infancy to become a shaman for the tribe, the young Half-Orc endured hardship after hardship; hot coals, whippings, exposure (up on the peaks); the elders spared no expense to ensure that their young protégé hardened into a merciless zealot. However, in the dark and the damp beneath the massive mountains—as unlikely as it sounds—Caan found friendship and a shred of happiness: He and a young Orc warrior named Rusk grew close, an unlikely kinship rooted in suffering and hardship. As the years passed, they weathered the cruelness and hate of the tribe with subversive kindness and generosity towards each other.
Caan’s initiation as a shaman was gruesome indeed. For the great sacrifice, they chose none other than Caan’s childhood friend, Rusk. As the blood moon reached its zenith, and the great curved dagger pierces Rusk's heart, the ritual chamber fell into darkness: the red moon became a visage of Groetus, and the Shamans fell into madness. When the eclipse had passed, Caan sat alone and confused in a room of dead shamans: he could not remember what had transpired.
He made his escape that night, joining a passing caravan and making his way to out into the world. As it became clear over time that he was Groetus' favored, he began channeling the divine to survive and prosper. He currently lives in the small town of Heldren, holding "mass" and offering "service" for any interested party.
Appearance/Additional information:
Caan stands 6'02" tall and weighs well over 200 pounds. His physical appearance tends a great deal towards his Orcish father, with the pronounced jaw and sunken eyes that most Orcs share. However, Caan is also overly-genial and well-mannered: likely an unconscious attempt to distance himself from any stereotypes attributed to his features.
Personality:
Like any worshiper of Groetus, Caan burdens the hefty weight of madness, as well as a sincere belief that it is in the world's best interest to end. That being said, he does not believe it the fault of those living upon it: Caan sees no reason for people to suffer, and often goes out of his way to help those that do.
