"Now then. Get anything good then Ratchet? Check out me new sword, she's better looking than any lass at The Emporium, I've ordered some proper armor to, this stuff nice and all, you know magic great, but I'd rather trust to steel than magic at a pinch," Byden says cheerfully,

"But before I reckon we ought to pick up a cart for hauling that marble and any other big stuff back. I'd do it, but, ah, well armor and swrds aren't cheap and I find myself a little light on coin..."

A cart and mule would cost 23gp by the book prices. I'm fine if you guys don't want to pick it up. But marble is 5gp per pound according to UE, though that is from long after this AP and Fanguar may not want to use those figures.

Byden nods, at Taggin's words and has the man take his measurements.

"Aye, that sounds good, so 375gp, or 412gp and 5sp for a masterwork set you say. Let me get back to you..."

The paladin sets out to find Ratchet and Senna, to see if he can borrow 80gp from one of their shares.

Byden heads down in the elevator and returns hauling the red altar,

"This better be worth something, grab the back end would you? Let's get going then, the sooner we get moving the sooner we can get drinking."

Byden scowls up,

"Hmmm, on seconds thoughts how about we get some proper climbing gear and sell all of our loot, my armors still damp and I'd not say no to a proper meal and bed. If you are all alright with that, I'll go fetch that red metal altar, we should probably bring a cart with us when we come bac, load up all that marble, maybe some of the statues.."

Byden looks up,

"Yeah, probably, but we've seen a few too many manufactured corpses for me to believe this one met his death accidentally. But I'm guessing none of you guys are climbers right? I should be able to get up there if we use Ratchet's rope and grapple and I brace against the wall and I'm probably the most likely to survive a fall."

Climb lists the DC for using a rope with a wall to brace against a 5, if that is correct here then Byden should be able to manage it in his armor which he will do if it seems practical since he has obvious reason to be worried about getting attacked at the top! He has a +0 bonus in his armor and would simply take 10.

"Errr, think you better look at this Ratchet. There's a skeleton here, that's all crushed, so we've probably got another trap..."

Byden frowns feeling that there must be more to this place, begins investigating each of the lantern tunnels that has not yielded anything of interest in turn.

2nd Round Damage should only be +8, so 14 total not 16. I'm also going to roll a couple of cure lights from Adotiln, since Byden would not have headed back in without healing as mentioned previously, hope that's cool.

Alarmed as the undead comes for him Byden smites evil and stabs at the creature with Ratchet's spear, before backing away towards his friends, trying to avoid offering up an opportunity to strike, and hoping to skewer the thing on his spear as it comes for him.

Assuming it is evil Byden's AC vs it is now 22.

Taking up the sword Byden heads back up, gulping in air again and setting the blade down for the others to examine before he repeats his dive this time under the right hand arch. If nothing threatens him there he returns with any valuables again and examines the stone door.

After hopefully getting some healing from Adotiln Byden stomps back into the water,

"Right, if I start flailing like an idiot again drag me back, and if two minutes go past try to drag me back anyway."

With another huge gulp of air he submerges and heads through the left arch again carefully searching for anything that might be valuable.

Byden attempts to grab the thing and then surges out of the water gulping down a great breath of air and sinking to his knees,

"Ouch."

Byden narrows his eyes and begins jabbing his spear at the creature his blows often wild as the unfamiliar pressure of the water seems to twist the spears path. His lungs burn as he exerts himself crying out for air, his need lending desperate strength to his strikes.

Going to roll a few, Byden only stops if he is significantly injured, and will lay on hands if he takes any hits.

Byden frowns considering,

"Hmmm, yes probably better, I think I can heal myself now so giving up the shield should not be too much of a problem. I'll still take the dagger though if that's alright with you Senna, don't know if I can step back to use the spear underwater."

With a nod of thanks Byden unslings his shield and takes Ratchet's spear, and Senna's dagger in case it gets too close for comfort, before wading back into the water taking another huge breath.

Just going to oll everything I think might be necessary and let Fanguar tell us how it plays out.

Byden splutters and flounders for a moment shaking himself off and glaring at the water,

"It was like a little see through shape, it attacked me, but didn't do any harm, just couldn't keep my balance. I'm going back in, but I need something more... Hey Senna can I borrow your dagger?"

Shrugging Byden ties a rope around his waste and handing it to the others wades into the water keeping a tight grip upon his sword and shield. If nothing attacks him - he is expecting tentacles - he takes a great breath of air and plunges under trying to walk on the bottom rather than swim to examine the nearest of the submerged rooms for valuables.

Byden strips the armor from the body before heading outside to give it a rudimentary burial and saying a quick rather awkward prayer to Heironeous for the unknown man's soul. He then leads the way back to the room they rested in previously Byden laboriously recreates their barricade and establishes a guard rota. When everyone feels sufficiently rested he leads the way back to the fatiguing room and looks to Ratchet,

"You want to lead the way looking for traps or should I just bull ahead?"

"We could head back to the room we used last time. Sound good to everyone?"

Byden glances down at the rubble, nodding in satisfaction,

"Well that's one less thing to worry about. Guess we are done in here. You still want to rest up Ratchet?"

Taking a look at the blade of his sword and tutting Byden sheathes his blade and withdraws his club taking it in both hands and beginning to smash at the statue until he can establish its either a waste of time or it looks to be disabled.

Byden moves to flank the statue with Adotiln, takes his longsword in tow hands, giving the others time to move into position if they wish to do so before saying,

"Well if its a trap I'm guessing smashing it will still work. Must be pretty complicated though if it can strike any of these slabs - which I'm guessing is the point. Ready then, on three, one, two, three!"

His longsword striking the statue with a resounding crack!

Welcome back Adotiln :) Yes we leveled, I used one cure light to heal Byden up after he got swarmed, but I believe that's the only resource you've expended.

Byden picks up the corpse, muttering a quick prayer for the departed before setting him down outside the room - without leaving it. He then moves over to cautiously examine the statue, asking,

"Think we should just treat this thing like the egg? I can get two and two to make four easily enough. Are we ready to fight again, or do we need to rest first?"

Reminded of the egg Byden scans the statue with detect evil.

Woot! Glad I did. What are the hp rules btw? I'm assuming either straight up roll since its not mentioned?

Big level for the Paladin, my saves just went up by a total of +11 all told and I got lay on hands - sweet! Did not take a spellcraft rank since I don't have detect magic as a cantrip so there would be little point.

Out of interest Fanguar how close are we to leveling? We seem to have killed a fair bit of stuff,and dealt with a few traps and puzzles, but not sure if we are on a particular advancement track or just leveling at certain points, etc.

Whoops, you know I've been waiting for the bug to attack back for days, failed my perception check there!

"Something in here makes me feel knackered, I pushed it off, but it ain't normal. I'm guessing that's what happened to Captain Corpsey here. Anybody want to be its got nothing to do with the ominous burly guy with club statue?"

Byden says moving over to examine the corpse sword and shield raised cautiously.

It should be +5, my bad I cut and pasted. But its still +6 damage, the extra being because he is two handing, he slings his shield with his move action after his second attack.

Byden frowns,

"Well at least let me kill the beetle, it might end up causing us trouble later, and judging by the last one it won't be much of a problem. I'll make sure I stay away from the statue."

He waits until the beetle is in a position he can charge it from and bursts forward blade held in both hands, burying it in the creatures carapace, yanking it free with a grunt.

If he manages to beat it in init.

He slams the blade home again, before slinging his shield into position.

Byden sniffs the potions in turn, taking some tiny cautious sips and swilling them about on his tongue,

"Oh, I remember this, this is your basic cure potion, tasted these a couple of times when I was Squiring for The Old Man. Never did like the taste, but I've been glad of them a time or two. I guess we can figure out the rest later. Someone might as well stick on the ring in case it turns out to be useful, I'll wear it if none of you want to risk it, but I've already got my armor..."

After they sought out who will wear the ring Byden nods,

"Now, we've got three routes to choose from, so lets take the one across from this one then the one opposite the way we entered and clear this section. Ratchet you take the lead again and we'll follow on a bit behind being as quiet as we can - which ain't very."

Assuming its obvious they are the same I'll make one check.

I'll probably put a point in Spellcraft to, just the one, but its nice to be able to roll.

Byden kicks the beetle off his sword and grins,

"Ha, well I'll gladly take not being swarmed over by those little gits. Good work," he then joins the others in searching the room, keeping his sword at the ready.

"Right, I'll leave the swarm to you while I take the beetle. Senna you move forward and once you've flamed them I'll charge." Byden whispers, charging either once Senna has used her spell, or if the beetles begin reacting to them.

"Damn it, you got more fire Senna? Maybe I can serve as bug bait again while you roast them? But preferably you roast them first. I suggest we rush in I'll move up to them and anyone who has anything that can effect them can target them once they come in range. I'll be up front if there is anything like the scythe bug then to." Byden suggests.

Scanning their surroundings and Byden whispers,

"I hear more bugs..."

Strapping his shield to his back, Byden descends after Ratchet, waiting only for the dwarf to touch the ground first to make his way clumsily down.

Once he reaches the ground he hurriedly draws his sword and readies his shield glancing about as he steps away to let the others descend.

Takes 10 for a 10 on climb.

"Huh," Byden says walking down to examine the end of the violet corridor, before shrugging, "head down the hole I guess. You said you had a rope Ratchet?"

"You won't get any arguments out of me," Byden says, scooping up the valuables and divvying them up roughly between the group and heading back for the sarcophagus, "we're making out pretty well, we'll make sure everyone has an even share more properish when we're in safer circumstances, all told though, definitely not going to need to reenlist at this rate! Right, let's try our luck with the violet lantern."

With a grunt of effort he shifts the arrow again and waits for the results...

Growing impatient Byden pulls out one of his clubs and taking care to remain out of the elevator uses the club to drag its contents out into the corridor before examining them carefully.

"Anyone else reminded of a nutcracker? Senna, just drag everything out with your staff so we can examine it then we can let Ratchet check this thing for traps. Actually lets do that the other way round hey?"

Byden stares down frowning, then turns to Adotiln,

"Can you heal me Adotiln? Those bugs were tiny but they all bit and burned like lye, and I don't want to risk more like that wounded."

The dwarven cleric nods and chants briefly before pressing a hand to Byden's arm and sending healing magic flowing forth.

"Thanks, now the next lantern," Byden growls, stalking back over to the sarcophagus and turning it to face the next lantern with a grunt of effort.

"Damned little bugs, how am I supposed to defend against that? I'm covered in bleeding blisters, like they were weeping acid or something," Byden complains, examining his injuries with a sour expression.

Moving over to the hole he says,

"Thought the plan was to check out the other lanterns before going down. I'm still for that a rope or whatever is a vulnerability we might end up trapped down there. So I vote we keep on activating the lanterns in order."

The only way I can see for him to reach would have been to charge, meaning -2 AC sadly, so I'll position him accordingly.

Hmmm, upon reflection I think you are correct I was assuming you could put any side on the diagonal, but looking at the 30ft. cone that has that as a specifically designated option and the 15ft. does not. Ah well, won't hurt to save spells she should be able to get into position to hit it easily enough with a move if those blows did not finish it. I'd suggest doing so in that case, because otherwise its going to get three attacks on us since it has whirlwind attack.

Its possible for Senna to hit the monster without hitting Byden or Adotiln, since you can direct a cone from any square beside you. She just goes with the lower right diagonal and uses the v shaped cone option.

With a snarl Byden swings again with Adotiln once again offering a flank and striking as the creature turns to Byden. This time the tactic works and both are able to strike true, with Adotiln scoring a powerful blow with his warhammer.

Byden: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Adotiln: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Adotiln Crit Conf: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Extra Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 3) + 4 = 14

Sorry for blocking there Senna, I thought it was probably meta gaming for him not to set up the flank. Though looking at the templates you should still be able to hit it without getting either of us.
