Sardus looks to establish some rapport with the men, realizing that they may be working together and their fates intertwined. While he had not included them in his original plan, he didn't yet have the information needed to include them in his route and squad formation.

Feelings can affect you in many ways. They can slow you down or speed you up. Mastering your emotions is a lifetime endeavor, or for those with the right upbringing and genetic design, a way of life since birth. We follow orders and logic, while not allowing our feelings to get in the way...Of course we have feelings, but we are not afforded the privilege or freedom to indulge in them or let them guide us.

Noticing Korbin trying to work on a nearby system, Sardus draws their attention and turns the tables on their new hosts:

I did not include additional support in my mission strategy, if you all plan to contribute, I need to know who you are and what you bring to the mission...No room for babysitting or hand holding during our escort. The protection of the Inquisitor is our main task and your survival isn't. If I feel you are going to slow us down, you will not be accompanying my squad. he finishes, setting the tone for dealing with them, keeping up his authoritative manner in the presence of these new "allies."

While Sardus would normally have a different approach, his leadership in this mission could define him if mistakes are made. While he welcomes additional help and allies, he can't afford to have them ruin his well laid plans...He did not trust them, so for now he wouldn't share more of their mission, but he was smart enough to know they knew things he didn't, and until Korbin, Luthar, or the Inquisitor could provide more answers, he rolled the dice and hoped someone might take up the initiative and prove themselves useful now.

Sardus is glad to have resolved the issue without violence and takes pride in the advantages his position and work have earned him over the years. While usually more charmful in his approach to situations, the need for demanding respect grows as you rise, especially when dealing with civilians.

What is your name soldier? he asks, looking at the Ogryn, just keeping a mental note for future encounters.

As the team enters the center Sardus looks around to measure their surroundings and level of resources at their disposal. He looks over staff and tries to identify who is responsible and makes decisions. While he hoped the cooperation would be beneficial, the main focus and task of his squad could not be compromised or bogged down with extra weight.

I must quickly assess their planning of this stage to assure we can begin without hindrance or disadvantage. he thinks to himself, awaiting for someone inside to greet them and let them know more about the "guest" and other plans in the works.

Sardus swiftly moves between the two men with his hands raised shouts HAULT to the two men about to box. I am an official Inquisition man and I opened the doors he points to the shuttered doors opening urging the Ogyrn to listen and see for himself as he speaks slowly and sternly, as if talking to a child. Good Job, only official Inquisition man can open door, good soldiers follow orders, stand down. dropping his arms and standing toe to toe but not looking directly at him, but positioned enough that he would need to step aside to let him pass. Sardus needed him to know who the adult was.

Before he injected himself between Othair and the soon to be beaten Guard, he activated his Clavis on his vambrace, its arcane workings somehow authenticating the Keeper and directing the machine spritits to bend to its authority until they recognized the authenticaton protocols and identifited the Keeper as friend. Auto-defenses would stand down and most soldiers would be instantly aware of the authority just by sheer body language. However, to an Ogyran, it's simpler mind needed more direct and simpler communication and Sardus tried to buy time with direct command rather than his usual Charm.

Sardus is able to hide his feelings well. While he didn't thin much of the looks, his interest lied elsewhere. Flying and piloting had always been an interest of his and the claim of one of the fastest and most agile ships in the universe would have to be seen to be believed.

The looks matter little in my experience. I look forward to inspecting her closer and seeing her in action...Perhaps if it is the fastest you would allow me an opportunity to pilot her, I am always looking to push the boundaries of my skills and if your ship lives up to your claims, then it could be the opportunity of a lifetime.

Also, Keeper specialty may apply:
Beyond Reproach—those that recognize a Keeper will respect his position and favour him with their trust. When dealing with NPCs, the Keeper improves their Disposition (see page 276 in the DEATHWATCH Rulebook) by two degrees. This automatically applies when dealing with members of the Deathwatch and may apply to other organisations at the GM’s discretion.

Sardus stands ready and looks around. Korbin arrives last, armor looking pristine as usual, he comments.

If you looked any prettier the enemy might decide to take you instead. he says with a smile.

Listening to the eager Wolf Sardus replies honestly.

Of that I have no doubt Othair placing a hand on the shoulder of the marines new armor. I shall count on you to remain close to the Inquisitor, I am not as skilled in close quarters as you. Once we get the information we need, then the real hunt can begin.

Looking to the Apothecary after his suggestion Sardus replies:

I will lead if you men desire it. turning to his brothers there. Korbin's skill at Stealth is much greater than mine, but my studies of the matter are deep. We can rely on him as a forward scout, but we must be wary of an ambush. Surely we are not the only ones searching for him. We should be prepared for close quarters combat. I fear I have little advice or understanding of the Warp, so those inherent risks are better understood by Luther and the Inquisitor. I trust they will be able to hold their own, it shall be our duty to escort and protect them both to the meeting.

Then Sardus begins sifting through the data looking the layouts and considering their best route, alternate paths, and likely ambush points if he were the enemy. He takes his time and carefully considers the best route and how to keep out of sight.

Hmmm. says Saurdus as he seems to visualize and put together the data. I believe I've found the best approach, allow me to share.

Gm can speak for Sardus or you can tell me the result and I'll post the info for others.

Sardus nods in agreement. We shall work out the details of our side while you plan what you can. Turning to his brothers, he looks them over before asking.

Who will lead us on this mission? Now that we have the route, we should look for likely ambush spots and alternate routes should we encounter overwhelming resistance. Then turning to Korbin, he asks, Could you please analyze how we might approach quietly and infiltrate with some stealth?

Sardus listens at the initial briefing and takes the unusual approach of remaining quiet, waiting for Korbin to finish, he awaits answers before following them up with his own concerns.

Why us? Why our squad? he thinks to himself, trying to imagine the larger picture and put this news in the context of previous missions.[/i]

What resources or support do we have on the ground or in the system? Perhaps we might be able to pose as forces for another faction and mask our origins and intention. Is your contact in the Hive known to the local PDF? Surely he is being watched and protected under the circumstances? Do you believe the information might lead to further investigation on the planet or elsewhere? Is your contact in any danger?...The information seems to valuable for there to be no risk, I just wish to be prepared and not show all our cards until we know what we are dealing with.

After the festivities, Sardus returns to his quarters, emotionally spent and taxed socially. Not used to celebrating with Humans, Sardus had to interact differently as those around him tried to do the same. He made sure to get to know everyone he could, learning all he could of the people and their motivations. As the night drew longer Sardus casually kept pace with his brothers but was not intoxicated.

Receiving the summons early, already awake and exercising, Sardus makes his way to the stratgium to find his brothers and the Inquisitor waiting.

I am eager to begin he says confidently, standing ready and at ease, listening intently.

Sardus hadn't been expecting this ceremony. He had anticipated a briefing or update, but instead found himself being honored. Rarely are the deeds of the Deathwatch known, let alone praised publicly. As he walks forward looking at the men and women he helped saved, he recalled multiple small memories of where he had seen them or fought next to them. He smiled and made eye contact with a few deserving individuals who served well under pressure.

As the hosts became clearer to Sardus he nearly felt unworthy, but quickly accepted the honor on his Chapter's behalf. Raptor's had paid a dear price for their loyalty and there are far too few of them remaining.

I am Keeper Sardus of the Raptor's, honored member of Squad Thanatos. he says, stepping forward with a salute.

Keeper Sardus was on the bridge, observing the leadership and character needed to lead a ship and its entire crew. He payed careful attention to flying the ships in system and studying Stellar navigational charts, all the while building fellowship and respect for himself and his squad.

When Matteus found him, Sardus was pleased to see action would be taken. What has happened demanded a response, and he wanted to personally deliver it to his enemies.

Sardus steps through the teleporter and is instantly put to ease once the light and sight of the facility become clearer. Even though the mission was a success and he can sense the feeling of accomplishment among those awaiting their return, he couldn't help but feel a sense of loss...That notion was quickly replaced with anger and revenge, but it never showed, as Sardus removed his helmet and greeted everyone with a smile.

He looks around for Shar Quinn, but hasn't heard or seen her. He knows she returned safely, but as it was her mission and her facility, he had expected her to be greeting them and eager to retrieve her beloved devices.

Waiting until Inquisitor Weyland finishes his offer, Sardus adds:

They will make a fine addition to our team, I am sure you can make arrangements to guarantee their assignment with Squad Thantos...Now, before I get out of this armor, what is our status? Are we in any danger?

Sardus waits until the go ahead is given and debriefing time arranged before heading to the armory to remove his equipment and armor, all in need of attention of more than a few tech-priests. While normally Korbin might look after their squad's equipment, Sardus wished for his brothers, both old and new, to get some well deserved rest and recover.

Sardus congratulates Morgan and the team for their efforts in defeating the Word Bearer Librarian. He gathers his weapon and prompts the men to make their way back towards the teleporter.

As the outside defense is bolstered and the perimeter relieved from the inevitable Tyranid and Word Bearer conflict, Sardus took satisfaction in their actions this day. They had accomplished much more than most others would have under the same circumstances. He just wondered if the price was worth it, but only momentarily, as his mental conditioning took over and he mentally reaffirmed his commitment to the Chain of Command.

Finally secured and observing the last of the survivors teleport away, Sardus looks after his men and makes sure the self destruct sequence is intact and sufficiently in order.

None must be allowed to survive he tells himself, still torn from the loss of the Divine Eagles as they were ambushed, as well as the untold number of losses here from defending the invasion and buying time for the inquisitors experiments.

Sardus hear's Korbin's warning and considers his assessment of the battle. Knowing they would not be needed much longer on the roof tops he begins extraction procedures as he orders men to fall back and be careful of the flank, unsure where the traitor marines might be throughout the base.

He comms Korbin and the team:
Reroute sensors and have constant updates on Traitor legion locations sent to our forces, order them to create choke points in the facility and buy time.

Then he turns to the remaining men as squads being retreating inside the base. Our work here is done gentlemen, excellent job. Forces have infiltrated our base and are moving to block our exit in the teleportation room, we are falling back to provide cover within and hold off the attackers until all remaining staff and troopers can be teleported away. Fall back to location Charlie and be on the lookout for Word Bearers. They are accompanied by a predator tank and one remaining dreadnaught.

As they fall back and begin to move down through the facility the chaos is nearly overwhelming as staff and personal retreat and are running in fear of the traitors. Sardus takes his men and what stranglers he can carouse and heads to cut off the tank and remaining enemy squads within.

The predator tank isn't hard to find as the noise and destruction are a dead giveawy. He calculates their trajectory and path and sets his men up to ambush them as they enter a large corridor. As the tank comes crashing through raining fire in every direction Sardus takes careful aim and fires a volley of special bolt rounds. The Angel of Death had already taken out one predator tank earlier and knew the pattern of the Word Bearers' armor well enough to place his shots well, crippling the beast and forcing the traitor marines to forfeit their cover and intimidation tactics. As they moved from behind the tank and met men ready for their incursion his seasoned snipers and spotters made quick work of the marines, dropping them with precision as they adhered to the Raptors attack pattern.

Sardus loaded the last missile in his launcher and timed a well placed shot that exploded the tank in shrapnel, taking with it a number of marines, but the distraction and explosion gave the marine the time they needed to charge and close the distance between them and his squad. The close proximity wasn't without consequence as the enemy soldiers were well disciplined and smart enough to react to the new circumstances. As they closed the gap and engaged in melee his men proved to be unmatched and as much as Sardus tried, he was unable to hold the lines for long and quickly found himself alone. His heavy bolter nearly out of ammunition he switched to his bolter and fired shots with deadly accuracy, bypassing armor and the marines unnatural defenses, leaving seemingly whole men to slowly wither and bleed out. When the numbers proved to great for his shots he engaged in melee with his power sword in one hand and pistol in another, parrying and firing, barely maintaining his composure and strength. Thankful for the added protection of the Terminator Armor he pushed it to its limits and when all else failed he drew his Melta gun and fired blasts dangerously close to himself. The heat from the weapon and destruction at point blank range covered Sardus in blood and shards of metal and bone covered his armor from head to toe. Now alone and nearly out of breath, standing amongst so many fallen, he comms his brothers to update them.

The predator tank has been disabled, moving back to the teleportation defense perimeter but then is quickly cut short as the shape of a lone man appears a short distance away, with no helmet and a bald head. He looked to be a commander of sorts and possible a psyker, but Sardus had no way of knowing. It wasn't until the Word Bearer unleashed his dark sorcery, by which point it was too late, that Sardus fully realized his opponents potential and power. Alone and low on ammunition he knew he couldn't outrun him and retreat would be cowardly. He begs his machine spirits for one last fight and calls out for the Emperors protection.

Thought I'd leave some room for another marine to join me in this battle, if not, then Sardus could do it.

Sorry its taken so long for me to get to this, been busy and its quite a bit to do for 2 PCs. Gonna take it in parts, but it may not be as good as everyone elses.

Sardus and the men on the roof cover the installation as best they can and concentrate their fire on HVT deep into enemy lines. When they get Luthar’s warning of the incoming Carnifexes they shift their focus and fire concentrating on one at a time, the spotters and Sardus’ attack pattern easily cripple 2 of the beasts preserving what they can of the walls. This however didn’t go unnoticed and the gargoyles and Tyranid quickly take notice of their position. They are overwhelmed and the squad protecting them barely holds their ground, forcing Sardus to abandon his long range focus and help maintain the position on the roof. His shots at this range or nearly too easy and the sheer number of Tyranid and their relentless assault becomes clearer by the minute. They would not be able to hold this position much longer. Sardus begins ordering the men to slowly withdraw and reposition themselves. Sardus would remain as long as he could, but he knew it was only a matter of time before they would be over run.
That’s all I got in me for now, its late and I’m fading.

Sardus concurs with the orders given and agrees most delightedly to the snipers high above. However, he knew they would need a few additional men to keep the flying tyranid at bay while the snipers could focus on more valuable targets and those posing the most danger to our weakest spot. He would take pride in coordinating the defense with his chapters secrets knowing that in all likely hood most of them would die on this planet and they could know no greater glory than dieing at the side of Space Marine who leads them in the ways of his battle brothers, lifting their spirits and morale as they rain death upon the Emperors foes from afar. Raptors would recall this day, for Sardus fully intended to make it off this rock alive. He would assist and hold the line as long as possible, but eventually they would fall back into the building, creating a last stand and funneling the enemies into confined space so they could control the incursion and coordinate their ever diminishing capacity and strength. As they lost more and more left, fewer would be left to defend and to those few or many, who did remain their so that he and his brothers could escape, he would forever honor their memories and cherish their sacrifice. He would have more brothers to atone for as he knows the pain and difficulty of defeat. Against these impossible odds the hour of defeat was the only unanswered question. Winning was not an option and retreat the only move to make.

We shall make them pay. I will lead a squad of the best shooters and gather the best long range rifles to assist from the top and coordinate like true Raptors. We will also need some additional men to keep the flying tyranid off our six while we focus on the high value targets and those presenting the greatest threat to our men and defenses....Let us be clear, we are buying time here. Korbin may give us some good news, but the eventuality is we will not get everyone off. Many will die and some might be left behind. We should evacuate the most important and highest ranking personal and scientist, their knowledge is invaluable. Storm troopers shall be defending till the end, their company will know no greater glory than in protecting this base and its knowledge extracted.

He gathers the best men he can find, asking that they be given priority for munitions in the armory, and using the data sent from Korbin to coordinate the best possible distribution of weapons. He selects his men's weapons carefully and makes sure they are equipped with atleast a telescopic sight, fin tuning the adjustments for their ranges and coaching the men, using his equipments environmental and weather information to advise men on wind speed and direction, helping to hone their shots and decrease misses. They would focus as a unit on larger targets of highest value with most likely hood of penetration and crippling. Death was not a necessity, just slowing them down and crippling their forces while the men below held the line.

Will share my Raptor attack pattern with men up top. It lets them re roll missed shots and bonus if use spotters. If I need to roll something let me know, but not exactly sure how you are running Cohesion point and their regeneration/distribution.

Once to the roof he spreads them out, assigning a civilian spotter to each, one of the smarter and observant ones who couldn't shoot but could be trusted to stand their ground at least for a while. They would have smaller arms if their were some to spare. He helped the men stabalize themselves and their weapons, obscure their firing position and find the best possible field of view to coordinate their protection and ability to fire together on larger single targets. He assigned a squad with shorter range weapons to guard their six but remain otherwise hidden until absolutely needed. He didn't want them or his snipers to be targets, keeping a low profile would be crucial to success as they shot deeper into enemy lines, masking their presence to the forward ranks that might be close enough to observe them.

Well met marines, the gods of Chaos are not match for the Emperor's finest. Let us see what we can do about the device, we have brought the limiter from the outpost and had our own daemons to deal with, hopefully we can secure the device and get off this doomed rock. The Tyranids are swarming and will be upon us within the hour, let us make haste and determine the risk of more threats....I fear we will soon need to divide again to protect the installation if the Inquisitor does not have good news.

He then motions for the team to move down the shaft and make their way to the malificarum.

Damn little bro, that's 2 daemons and 2 headshots in a row. Save something for the rest of us.

As they enter the compound and get no reply from their vox hails Sardus has a gut feeling that something has gone wrong.

We need to get to the device now Inquisitor Shar, my squad is not replying to hails. he says to his squad, or what was left of it.

As soon as they can, he gets out and makes his way to the facility entrance and down towards the device control room as fast as his armor will carry him.

Can either of you see if you can get me any video feeds he says to Shar and Korbin as they make their way out of the Chimera and deeper into the facility.

Finally returning to the base was more of a welcomed relief than anticipated. Sardus immediately tries to comm his brothers and get an update on their status.

Comms+++
Brother Morgan, we have returned with the limiter and the Inquisitor, please update us on your status. We are entering the compound now, where can we assist? Have there been any breaches by traitors or xenos? What of the device’s status?

If that fails, then Sardus will ask Korbin to patch them into local the local vox network and attempt to get a status update indirectly.
Inquisitor, are you able to reach your staff? How is the device cool down proceeding?

After the explosion, Sardus rests a bit easier knowing that they are on their way back to the installation and the squad, with success and glory to show for it. But that is soon cut short as they encounter a horde of Tyranid and a Carnifex.

What the hell... is all that comes out of his mouth before he begins to ready himself for combat should they not be able to avoid conflict.Do not engage, get us out of here, we can't let that Carnifex charge us.

Defensive pattern: Cost 3

SWIFT WITHDRAWAL:

Action: Reaction, Cost:3, Sustained: No
Effect: Like the Raven Guard, the Raptors excel at hit and run tactics, striking and then falling back before they can be attacked. These kinds of manoeuvres also lend themselves to rapid extraction when the squad finds itself unexpectedly in danger, falling away from an ambush or sudden assault before the enemy can press their advantage. When the squad has been surprised by an enemy, this ability can be used to disengage before combat truly begins. The GM should make the Surprise attacks for the enemies (see page 235 of the DEATHWATCHCore Rulebook) then if the squad chooses to make a swift withdrawal, combat immediately ends and the squad makes a retreat. The GM should use his discretion to decide whether retreat would be possible and where the squad would be able to retreat to. However, unless they would absolutely not be able to withdraw from their foes or there is nowhere to run, the GM should allow the squad to disengage from combat without further attacks made against them. Improvement: At Rank 5 the Battle-Brothers can each take a Half Action before making their retreat, which can be an attack against their foes.

Man the turrets and target the legs of that Carnifex if it gives chase.

We could each have an half action, which could be an attack, but not sure if the horde is going to engage or give chase...I'm sure they will...but we want to get out of there and only fire if they get too close or the Carnifex takes notice of us...Use the action to ready the guns if we aren't already ready, if we are ready, then use the half action to aim at the carnifex for anyone/everyone who can shoot.

Korbin, get your plasma cannon ready, aim for the legs.

We need to move before we encounter even more suprises. If there is nothing else that could be of use here Inquisitor, then I suggest we make our way back to the installation and rejoin our squad. Something tells me they are bearing the brunt of enemy forces.

He then comms the remaining Eagle that was left outside to guard the entrance and Chimera.

Get that Chimera fired up and ready for arrival. We have the package but we did get ambushed. Keep your eyes sharp and maintain regular contact.

Turning back to the squad, or what remains of it, and the Inquisitor, he motions to move out and retreat towards the main entrance.

Protect the Inquisitor is all Sardus has time for as he watches the men around him fall and melt. As he fully turns around to see the attackers, he sees the sights of a melta gun firing at him. Knowing its impossible to dodge and there current spacing not allowing for much maneuvering, Sardus fires his heavy bolter with one hand and readies his meltagun with the other after the blast centers on his chest, barely penetrating his armor and wounding him slightly.

Sardus unleashes vengeance on the traitors as he uses the pain to focus on the mission and exact revenge for his fallen squad mates. With a fury unbecoming a Keeper of the Deathwatch he levels his heavy bolter and sprays into the traitors hitting them all.

Allocate first 3 hits to each traitor and 4 to the host, each one should have a RF hit. 3/3/4 or 3/3/3/1 (depends on their position, you may choose to alter it if my allocation isn't realistic.

Sardus over hears the conversation and makes the decision to forget the traitors for the time being.

Our mission is the Limiter, perhaps they are just retreating into the caverns, hiding from what they believe to be overhwhelming numbers on our part. Access what you can of the outpost controls and defenses, when you are finished, we move to secure the limiter and withdraw to return to the Installation....Unless the Inquisitor has other reasons we should stay or puruse the traitors into the caverns.

If there aren't any objections and Shar fails to provide adequate reason or doesn't attempt to persuade the squad to search the caverns below, then the mission will go according to plan. He comms the rest of the squad to fill them in.

Brothers, we are in luck. The traitors have retreated to caverns beneath the facility, to what end, we know not. The limiter is still in place and secure, so our original mission remains the same. Prepare to move out when Korbin is finished with the cogitators.

Korbin is done too, everyone should be ready to move forward if Shar gives the go.

Copy that. Saruds replies and then signals for the team to move up, always on watch for an ambush and possible signs of enemy activity, not trusting the base is empty and heading Korbin's cautionary advice.

The explosion on the roof is a welcome to Sardus' ears and eyes. While that had been the original goal, their success had meant they could now enter the Outpost and likely retrieve the limiter, which is a much better reward than a ride on a Thunderhawk to a doomed base, on a lost planet. There would have been little glory in returning empty handed. The Divine Eagles would prove to be invaluable in their siege and tactics, the Emperor must truly favor our endeavor.

Korbin shares what he can of his observations regarding the troops inside. Knowing there were a great number of men and possible a dreadnaught inside didn't deter Korbin, it only made him more cautious and eager to retrieve the device.

Korbin goes in first and takes point. The Inquisitor and I will follow behind the your men looking towards the commander of the Eagles. Our mission is retrieval of the device, the traitors will pay one way or another, so do not let your emotions get the best of you. Once we secure the device, we extract and initiate the self destruct sequence. Remember, we still need to make it back to the Outpost and every single one of you are needed to protect our main asset.

Sardus pauses for a moment and waits for Korbin to enter, after which they follow inside.

Copy that Inquisitor he says as Shar Quinn explains their best course of action.I gladly defer to your judgement here, you are most familiar. After he finishes he then comms Korbin privately, Korbin, send that Daemon back to the warp the old fashioned way and get down here to help breach the facility and scout ahead of us, we need to be together to protect Shar.

Eagles, secure the entrance, when Korbin is finished we enter. One of you needs to remain here to guard our six and the Chimera. I do not want that squad that ran into the jungle to ambush us from behind, remain in regular contact.

Just making sure, I recall that we can monitor simple vitals of squad mates with power armor, should know if one dies or is injured.

Sardus then looks to the main entrance as they approach, careful to look at the tracks of the men, noticing how many made the assault and entered the compound. Also, looking to notice any other prints that might be larger or different than a normal traitor marine.

Tracking, Per 85 vs 1d100 ⇒ 64 2 DOS

Lastly, we're in Squad mode still, Korbin hasn't "joined" yet, but will. I guess the Oath and the bonuses/options provided by it like attack and defense patterns are still available to our squad here, even with Eagles having joined? Just trying to keep in mind my options for whatever you decide to throw at me once inside :)

As Sardus and the Eagles methodically remove the last of the traitors they move up and surround the facility, ready to enter or to retreat. With the momentum in their favor, Sardus is feeling confident and decides its worth pushing on. After praising the Eagles for their marksmanship he quickly pushes the discussion forward to the task at hand.

Inquisitor, see if you can assist Korbin and free that Thunderhawk. We will prepare to enter the facility, I trust you can guide us to the device and past the bases defenses. Any chance they are still active and can assist us? We need to make sure the device is here before we enter.

I am sure you know where they are likely to fortify and expect us, I hope we can find a way around it. While that Daemonhost needs to be dealt with, you and that device are our priority. We have not come this far to throw it all away now.

Sardus and the Eagles press the advantage with the retreat of the traitors. Hoping to catch them in a ring of fire and breaking their ranks he swings his bolter wide and fires into the rear of the men, not aiming for them, but the area they were retreating to, hoping to cut off their retreat and punish the traitors even more for their cowardice.

Do not let them escape back into the compound. Keep firing, aim for the rear, closest to the outpost. Once that Thunderhawk is grounded and heavy soldiers down, we move up with the Chimera. He then switches to a private comm channel and asks Korbin for an update.

What is the status of the Thunderhawk? Cowards are retreating back to the outpost, you shall not go unnoticed for much longer. We must decide to enter the facilites or retreat, over?

Allocate as you like, really going for the spread and not the kills, so if they're grouped closely enough, spread them all out, hopefully catching anyone in 2m o fire :)If they are more spread out, then allocate the least number of possible to the most amount of enemies from right to left. Trying to spray and slow the advancing line, not break the ranks on a particular squad. We are spread out in support range, so not sure where the marines are going and in what numbers.

Sardus, satisfied with his hits on the tank hears his brother's comm and swings the heavy bolter over towards the roof. He switches to Dragon fire rounds and fires off a single round in the area of soldier, but it goes wide and misses.

Focus fire on the rooftop soldiers, Korbin needs time to disable the Thunderhawk. If it takes off we need to hold fire and retreat. Inquisitor, I don't want you exposed if the Thunderhawk gets airborne, unless you can warp up there and take out the pilot he says with a half laugh sarcastically, but seriously partially wondering if it were within her abilities.

It would be risky, but if her and Korbin were aboard, they could take over and offer critical support against the remaining soldiers. We must concentrate on the heavy soldiers, they pose the greatest risk to us and the Thunderhawk should we commandeer it

Sardus sees his brothers attack and watches as the traiter marine stands and screams from the attack. Korbin silently signals the Eagles to fire as he unleashes the Emporers fury upon the tank and remaining men on the roof, trusting Korbin could handle himself and leaving the rest to fate.

Sardus and the Eagles move into position, as one of the Eagles suggest spotting for him, the Raptor chuckles lightly and pats the man on the soldier, gently so, while in the terminator armor. I assure you, by no fault of your own, there is nothing you could do to improve my shot...Grab your gun and move out, target the 3rd soldier on the roof nearest to us one in position. Even without a spotter we can still use the extra shot. Fire on my command. After making sure everyone had their target and in their sights he signals Korbin they are ready and waits for the first solider to fall. Taking aim action, +20 bonus for next BS test.

As he gets a reply signal from Korbin, knowing his brother is already in positions assures him and gives him greater confidence in their plan. He readies the men now under his command and safeties are unlocked, targets are spotted and chosen. Based on Korbin's entry, he should have the rear guard from their position, thouhg he couldn't see Korbin, he knew he woudl be there. He would watch for his brother's move, if it didn't gather attention, he wouldn't give the order to fire, he will wait until the last possible momement to open fire. Knowing his men stood ready to take out the marines on the roof at his command, the set his aim on the tank and searches for a weakspot in the armor, hoping to bypass it and atleast disable the main guns. Not sure how tank is positioned in relation to us, if its to its side or its rear is facing us, not sure the best place to attack it,trying to disable main turrets, but I’ll let you and the dice decide.

Just making these rolls so you don't need to wait, they can be timed depending on what happends to Korbin, if he's silent and can deal with a few, then wait, but if things ever go wrong, then initiate this attack and that of the others with the Kill Clean Attack Pattern, Cohesion cost 4, 4 remaining. Let me know if I need an additional command test, not sure how that talent is used.

If it makes a "critical" differance, then my Deed "Angel of Death" allows a successful hit to ignore AP, I would be willing to use that for this combat with my RF shot, if it meant the difference in disabling the tank.

Sardus, along with the Divine Eagles and the Inquisitor climb back into the Chimera and descend to get in their positions. As Korbin makes his way by foot they keep a safe distance as not to alert them. During the short trip, Sardus shares what he can of his Chapter's attack pattern and makes sure the Eagles are up to the task. As they ride and Sardus takes command, he feels confident with his new brothers and worries little of the outcome as usual. Should they fail, the Chimera and Inquisitor could retreat and survive. When they've gotten as far as they can quietly with the Chimera, they unload and move out and into position. Sardus gives the Inquisitor a choice, not knowing her skill with a rifle and if she could fire at these ranges. If she does come, Sardus will place her nearest the Chimera for retreat, should their assault go wrong.

Entering squad mode, Cohesion 8. We will approach from extreme range and then slowly move up into Long range for their bolters.

Spread out men, stay within support range, make yourself a small target and stay within cover, make them come to us. Wait for my single, you know your targets, awaiting Korbin's signal.

While the Eagles take aim, Korbin set his launcher sights on the Tank and looks for a spot that could disable the main cannons. If things didn't go according to plan, that tank would be the highest priority concern in any retreat or advance.

Your a genius Korbin, I knew that cogitator for a mind you have would figure out a way for us to retrieve the limiter. hey says, with no thought of retreat now. Uriel and his men will come with me in the Chimera, we will be opposite of Korbin's approach, which means if you're seen, we won't be able to help....When our assault begins, we shall take out the rooftop devestators first, if Korbin hasn't. Then we target the remaining devestators, then specialist, then marines. We will be taking single shots and I expect you to make the most out of each shot. I will assist you and offer a bit of advice when we travel. Either they will retreat and we move forward, or they move towards us, spreading themselves out, and we clean them up more easily. Once the biggest threats are destroyed, then Korbin can support from the roof. Depending on what comes out of that outpost, then we either attempt to infiltrate and retrieve the device or we rendezvous with Korbin and Shar at location Echo and exfil by air.

Uriel and his men, we do squad mode, Sardus leading, spread out around the outpost in support range, but probably in long range of the targets so we can use Attack pattern: Clean kill.

Clean Kill:

RAPTORS ATTACK PATTERN: CLEAN KILL
Action: Half Action, Cost:2, Sustained: Yes
Effect: In pairs or as a squad, Raptors can become even more proficient marksmen than normal, hitting targets at long ranges again and again with unrivalled accuracy. This is a favoured tactic of Raptor fire teams to lay down precision sniping on a target while their brothers move in to flank and destroy a position, the deadly shots so accurate that the targets dare not lift their heads from the dirt. The Battle-Brother and members of his squad within Support Range can re-roll Ballistic Skill Tests when firing single shots (i.e. not semi or full auto fire) with ranged weapons at Long and Extreme ranges. Additionally, a member of the squad may act as a ‘spotter’ for another member, helping him to find targets and judge distances. Any member of the squad may “spot” for another as a Full Action, negating any penalties to his Ballistic Skill Test against a single target provided he only takes a single shot (i.e. does not use semi or full auto fire).Improvement: At Rank 4 the Battle-Brother gains the benefits of re-rolls at Long and Extreme ranges with semi auto fire. At Rank 6 the Battle-Brother gains the benefits of re-rolls at Long and Extreme ranges with full auto fire. In both cases, the Battle-Brother may still only make single shots when benefiting from a spotter.

They will fire from afar, should get a suprise round, which first, we'll target the rooftop heavies, on Korbin's command, hopefully he makes it to roof and can be ready to take out some and then we all start on the roof. Once they are down, or Korbin/Shar can finish up, then the squad begins firing at the heavies in the 3 surrounding squads. 4 guys, each taking out a heavy and champion in the 2 squads, then Korbin and Shar can take out heavies in 3rd squad, or remain hidden and allow the Eagles and Sardus to finish up the normal marines from afar until the other heavies come in range, at which point they'd be the target.

Just explaining myself more clearly at the end, that should be enough to get this ball rolling, once everyone is in position, then we can begin, Korbin can roll for stealth and Shar?..if she comes..then you can just Roll the Eagles (and reroll) them in your posts. Anything else I need to say, do, or make clear? If you're ready, I'm ready.

Our Primary objective is most important, unless you can see a way to get to the roofs quietly with the Inquisitor, then we shall return and detonate from the installation.

I could set up out of range of their munitions and strike the squads and devestate them from afar. With Uriel's men I am confident I can show them the way of a Raptor and guide them at long range assault.

Talent: Forging the Bond: Allows me to share squad attack pattern with other marines, I'm assuming it could be done with Divine Eagles.

My first strike would be against the Tank, we must disable it, as it poses the greatest risk to us and the Thunderhawk. Korbin, if you had a shot from the rooftops then you could take it too. Remember, its about luring them out and away to weaken them and get the Thunderhawk.

If our assault is successful and the forces fall easily, despite their Asartes tactics, then we might consider infiltrating the base, either ourselves or with the additional support of our brothers.

What say you Korbin, can you get us there without being seen? Inquisitor Shar, you seem to know a thing or two about staying out of sight, do you have any powers or equipment that could aid us in either objective?

If stealth is an option to get to the roof, with or without a distractionthen we'll try the plan above. If its not possible, then we retreat now and detonate, protecting the Inquisitor...Just depends on what the marines are armed with and how many there are, Korbin rolled for that earlier.

And if its too much and confusing, just take us back by Chimera now.

EDIT: I see you answered some question before this post, gonna check those out.

Sardus takes a look at the outpost and the soldiers outside. He silently wished for a squad of his chapter brothers, armed and ready to strike them from a distance, but with their weapons and armor, stealth was the only hope if they could not overwhelm them with firepower somehow. Getting to the tank would be impossible, but the Thunderhawk might prove an option to soften up the squads before their advance. It would be needed to get back to the base, which meant the Chimera was expendable.

Who here can pilot a Thunderhawk besides myself? No way I can do it in this armor.

As he waits he considers how they might access the rooftops without being seen but fails to find a way.
Tactics (Recon and Stealth +10), INT 50 vs 1d100 ⇒ 70 1 DOF

Then he considers whether or not the Thunderhawk could take out the ground forces and how best it could be done. He needed to know more about the installation and turned his gaze back towards his companions.

Tactics (Air Combat) INT 50 vs 1d100 ⇒ 64 1 DOF

Even if we made it to there and got it off the ground, it might not be enough to take on the ground forces. Risky, but we could take out most of the resistance that doesn't flee or remain inside. From there a squad enters to retrieve the device....Which is where by the way? And guarded by what protections? he says turning to Shar Quinn and returning the magnoculars.

Once on their way Sardus tries to evaluate their options. When Uriel asks what the plan is, he replies honestly. The plan was to head to the outpost and retrieve the skull. That hasn't changed. Our opposition might be greater than we anticipated, but so is the significance of the limiter. Turning to the Inquisiter he asks If you want to turn back now is the time Then raising his voice so the driver could hear, Our plan is to get close enough to the installation without them knowing we have arrived. Once we get solid intel we can make a decision on how to enter. Though if the situation looks like more than we can handle I will consider aborting and returning to the installation. I can not risk our main objective.he says, then lowers his voice where only those in the back could hear, ...Let us hope the Daemon spoke nothing more than lies.

Sardus smiles as the lost Chimera pulls up to the squad. You should thank those bugs next time you see them. Glad you took your time with them, otherwise we might be walking. As soon as he says so he instantly recalls the drivers of the other Chimeras, perhaps they are still alive, someone should check. Uriel, have your men go with Korbin and search the Chimera's for survivors. Try to stay within support range.

He then opens comms again to commander Morgan:
We have just made contact with the last surviving Chimera, on route to destination. Suggest preperations for an exfil team should we meet excessive resistance and are pursued on route back to installation. Will update upon arrival.

Turning back to Uriel and the Inquisitor Sardus tells them to load up, missio is still a go. It does not matter what awaits us, we will retrieve the skull and return. Load up, we are moving out after we have searched for survivors. [b]Korbin, see if you can repair the vox and get more stable comms while we are on route.

With no time for idle chat on the ground Sardus motions for them to get on the Chimera. Sardus makes sure to get on last and be near the door, so he may exit first under fire.

As a connection is confirmed with the installation Sardus sends a more coherent encrypted message, high priority, to Commander Morgan.

Our transports are down, currently at an unknown position. He pauses trying to get a sense of their exact location with whatever he has available.

Navigation INT: 50 1d100 ⇒ 94 4 DOF

he continues on after giving up, not even to make sense of north or south.Escort package secure, contact with remaining Divine Eagle Squad, Uriel survived. Daemonhost and a squad of traitors neutralized. Target package likely compromised, Chaos troops likely awaiting our arrival. New intel suggest target package more important than thought, aborting mission not advisable. Please update on your status...Over.

Sardus looks around to make sure nothing is still standing to threaten him. He comms the Divine Eagles and attempts to message the installation on an encrypted frequency, alternating signals until he gets a connection.

Contact made with traitor marines. Presence confirmed, along with Daemonhost. Transportation Lost. Contact with Divine Eagles. Regrouping now, threat elimnated, minor injuries. Uriel confirmed alive.

Sardus keeps the signal on a loop until he gets a reply. The transponders in the Chimera's destroyed, if they couldn't get a signal through, Morgan might risk a rescue operation, possibly jeopardizing the installation and making the retrieval of the limiter useless.

For now he must consider what to do next. Continue by foot or return to the installation. Before that decision could be made, he would need to hear from the Inquisitor and Uriel first.

Perfect timing Sardus says to Uriel as he approaches the piles of metal and flesh. I feared the worst, but never gave up hope.

Sardus knows that his chances are slim, but he steadies himself for the blow and doesn't even flinch as he stares into at the traitor and hatred that ran as deep as his gene-seed.

Armor AP 14, TB 12: I only take damage from the 2nd shot of the 3rd soldier to fire a bolter and the lascannon if I can't dodge. Then if forgot I can't dodge, but that I have a force field rating 35. Barely "dodged" that one, that lascannon would've put me down.

As the traitor marines open fire after the dreadnought explodes, Sardus doesn't flinch as the bolter shells bounce of his armor and shield. However, one shot does make it through Sardus' defenses, only injuring him minimally at the waist. The hit surprises him and draws his attention away long enough to turn lose focus and do nothing but stare at the barrel of a meltagun aimed at him. While he felt no fear, he momentarily prepared himself for the possibility of death, but the Emperor had other plans and as the weapon jammed, Sardus' resolve grew even stronger with a resolve that would see him through more than this fight. The distraction was enough and he didn't even see the lascannon fire, luckily his Crux Terminatus didn't fail him again and he stood wide eyed at as the splash of light and energy being absorbed shakes him to his core. Only the augmented strength and weight of the armor kept Sardus stabilized, able to take the punishment that tactical dreadnought armor was designed for. Before Sardus could begin to counter-attack the champion of the squad lifts his plasma pistol and lands two shots, one absorbed by the force field and one that penetrated and left a scorching hole in his armor, nearly injuring Sardus.

As the heat from the plasma burned the skin of his arm, he raised his heavy bolter in defiance, standing his ground and absorbing their fire as well as their attention while his Brother and the Inquisitor moved to flank.

2 wounds taken from the first attack. 20/22 wounds.

Thankfully Sardus didn't have to make the call. He knew the protection and retrieval of the limiter were more important but he trusted in the intellect and experience of the Forgemaster. When it became clear a fight was unavoidable Sardus gave himself a slight smile, Should this be where I fall, there is no greater glory than dying in service to the Emperor. Others will succeed where I fail.

As the inquisitor moves to exit Sardus tells her in a more commanding than suggestive tone Keep back, let us handle the Word Bearers, try to counter that daemon if you can. Hold it off until we can concentrate our efforts.

He activates the heavy bolter and steps out to greet the soldiers of Chaos in the only language they would understand. Not wasting time with a reply to the psyker's inquiry, Sardus waits until the Chimeras begin moving and immediately fires at leg of the dreadnought with vengeance rounds, the highest priority threat in his eyes.
