Sorry folks, I'm going to shut down this game due to lack of enthusiasm on my part. Suffice it to say that the folk of Cauldron hail you as heroes! I might fire this game up again if I have more interest later, but that's it for now. Thanks for playing!

Sorry to see it go. As a late entrant, thanks for the opportunity to play in it. I'll just have to use that Cavalier concept in another game.

abstract xp - Bron L

By now, Bron's silence is deafening. He's avoided any contribution to the conversations since the party has returned and Mrs Oakleg's silent remark has him staring at the ground and shaking his head.

Finally, he walks a few paces away from the group and stares off into the distance. You are sure there are tears in his eyes.

I have the basics of a Paladin. What's my spend? It'll help me decide what direction I ultimately take.

Bron fixes the priest with a cold stare. He opens his mouth to speak but instead shrugs his shoulders and lowers his eyes to the floor.

Bron seems underwhelmed by the guards. He gives the rest of the group a cursory glance and then returns his gaze to the floor.

Yup, I've taken a look at it, and you're welcome to play one!

As you hopefully can tell from my posts, I'm positioning Bron as having lost heart during the recent encounter at the smithy.

How soon will you need to approve my new character to replace Bron? Do you have a steer as to what you want to see? I'm still keen on a faith based Paladin (what alignment restrictions would you want to impose)?

Bron appears to be going through the motions. He's been quiet since the fight in the smithy and simply agrees to whatever is being suggested without any real input.

If no one wants to do anything more at the smithy, I'll assume that you head for home.

I presume that, if nothing else, we would take anything of value with us?

Bron drags his bruised and bleeding body around the room, looking for anything that might be useful - either as a clue or as something helpful for the group.

Perception roll 1d20 ⇒ 16

Bron's body has been surviving on adrenaline and emotion, and now the azer is defeated, he sinks to his haunches, puffing heavily.

He doesn't even seem to be taking in the treasures around him.

Attack of Opportunity

As the azer struggles to his feet, Bron presses the advantage his previous swing created - as all three party memebers look to finish the creature off.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 261d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

To include flanking and Daegen's bonus

Sensing some vulnerability in the metal dwarf, Bron continues his assualt relentlessly.

Once again, he tests his muscles as, with all of his might, he swings his warhammer with both hands, looking to finish this annoying creature off once and for all.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 261d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

To include flanking and Daegen's bonus

Bron currently has 8 hp, and it's his turn to go.

Bron is acutely aware that he does not seem to be doing any significant damage, but is not aware of any alternatives.

So he wades in with his warhammer held between both hands, his muscles bulging with the effort of hitting this creature.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 251d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

To include flanking bonus

I'm still here but my hit points appear to be fluctuating, so I'm never sure if I'm even conscious, let alone able to take part in any combat.

The beta Cavalier is out from Pathfinder. This is the 'Paladin' that doesn't have to be LG. Same principles but you follow either a deity or a cause, or a noble or...

Need to make sure it's not broken, but it really appeals when Bron is retired.

Bron? Is Bron going to attack again, or retreat?

I would see Bron continuing to fight and relying on those with healing spells to keep him in the front line.

I can't wait for the Templar class from Paizo next year. Just like a Paladin, but you don't have to be LG. Having said that, I may chose a Paladin instead of a Fighter? None of the party are evil.

Do you have an issue with a Paladin? It'll certainly give me something to role-play. I just picked up the Tome of Secrets and it has a good section on flaws and the like - so I will certainly add some of these.

The new classes it introduces are OK and the book itself is alright. Perhaps a little expensive here in the UK (£20/US$40) but I like to have choices.

Hogarth - in case you were wondering, the above post is mine...

Reflex save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Bron scans the room and as troubling as the situation with the boy is, his fighter training kicks in and he targets the nearest threatening foe.

Bron faces the talkative dwarf, shouting, "Slave!...Slave!...By Caden, I'll give you 'slave' you little..." and with that he swings his warhammer double-handed straight at the dwarf's skull.

With modifiers 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Hogarth -I hope you're keeping an eye on this board as I didn't want to stop the flow of the campaign.

I am finding it a little tough to be more than a stereotypical NPC fighter - primarily because it isn't a character I rolled (and I picked up mid-adventure) and I can't generate a flavour for the wannabe brewer (no pun intended).

I would like to roll a new fighter when it is sensible - and I can then give him a character I can role-play fully.

In terms of rolling something up, the rules I have picked up are:

1. Pathfinder Core Rulebook (plus the web traits - not sure how many)
2. Hit points will be max at first level, max-2 for each additional level, with no racial hp
3. Start at Level 2 - not sure if anyone has advanced as yet
4. 25 point buy to start
5. Not sure what to do about equipment. I read 100gp and 1000gp (misprint I think)?
6. Don't think there is a number 6?

Can you check the above and point me in the right direction.

Thanks - abstract xp

Round 2:

17b: The living bonfire also rushes forward and attacks Bron. An "arm" slams into the warrior, and it is as if he were pummelled by a flaming tree trunk (1d6+1 damage -- make a Reflex save, Bron).

Reflex save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Bron will step into the building and take a two-handed warhammer swing at the closest bad guy.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Daegan will move up to the door and attempt to assist Bron in busting it open.

Str check (to Aid) 1d20+2

Bron shakes his head and wonders how his cunning plan failed. "Oh well, it looks like Plan B then."

With a grin, Bron looks at Daegan and prepares to break the door down.

Do we go for a strength check or are we going for HP damage?

In the surprise round, I should have been able to cover 60 feet.

I don't think so; you can only make a single standard or move action during a surprise round.

OK, but with 60 feet of travel over two rounds, that gets me to the gnoll by my calculations. Agreed? (not sure how you treat diagonal movement).

In the surprise round, I should have been able to cover 60 feet. So in this round I can reach the damaged creature at the door (and be at the left side of the doorframe). If I made a mistake with my calculations, please put me somewhere appropriate

Bron covers the remaining distance to the doorway with a few strides and attacks the gnoll, swinging his warhammer with two hands and aiming squarely for the creature's head.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

To include Daegen's modifiers

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Bron will advance on the hut at normal speed, keeping a clear line of sight for the archers to the doorway.

Bron stands in a combat ready stance, his warhammer gripped in both hands - its head shoulder height.

Gjoren sighs as Stone moves, and says, "Well, I suppose we'd best get into position. Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone's given any thought to how we're supposed to breath when we go inside for the kids?"

"In my version, the smoke would encourage them to come out so we don't have to rush in there. Of course, they may not be aware of my cunning plan!"

Bron grins inanely.

hogarth wrote:
The walls are about 10 feet high and are not particularly smooth. There's a peaked wooden roof (not steep), and smoke is pouring out of a hole in the roof.

"I know I'm not the ideas guy, and I know I just put this armor on, but if I took it off quietly, I could easily climb on that roof and put something over the chimney. The smoke'll likely flush them out."

"I can knock doors down if you want the direct approach, but don't look to me for the cunning plan."

Gjoren wrote:
"Looks like it's your or me looking after it for now," Gjoren says with a shrug. "You go ahead and use it for now; it'd be too much hassle to pull my own armour off anyway."

The grin on Bron's face threatens to split his cheeks as he handles the mithral shirt almost lovingly before replacing his current rusted armor with it.

"I have to admit, that's a lovely looking mithral shirt..."

Bron stares from face to face around the group, seeing if anyone will continue the conversation.

Bron turns to Ignok. "I'll not sanction killing you in cold-blood."

"If you know what's good for you, you'll go in the opposite direction to the one that'll bring you across our path again."

Intimidate + 8: roll = 11

Turning now to Stone, "Let's go then.."

Bron fidgets, lightly transferring his weight from one foot and back the other, over and over.

"My sneaking leaves a lot to be desired and I have even less patience..."

He lets his words hang and he switches his gaze from Myvannuii to Ignok.

Bron stands ready with his hammer raised, his kukri held loosely by his side in his off-hand.
