If you want us to kick around with another test and set of heroes, I'm down with that, JZ. You have a level in mind you'd like to explore? If it's a higher level I'll likely see what my Nightcrawler idea can bring. If it's lower, probably something else since ol' Nighty needs those dimensional agility feats to really shine.

I'm happy to playtest further, but that's more your call than anyone else's I think. Do you feel like the rules are at a place you're comfortable with given what you've seen? We had 1 low level encounter, 1 midlevel that proved to be a total blowout in favor of the heroes, and a retooled midlevel that left 1 PC dead halfway through the combat.

I'd been keen to try out a nightcrawler build, but his ability to bampf all over the place wouldn't really come online until the mid levels. And I agree about the automatic bonus progression system - I love it. It really helped Brock to feel like a hero because of his abilities rather than what he was wearing.

Why, it's only the best quote from Babe, and there were a bunch of great ones in that movie! Loved James Cromwell in that film. As for more testing vs playing, I still haven't even looked at the Paths of War stuffs you'd mentioned JZ. And, I didn't spend a bit of coin on Brock for this level 6 test - the only non-class stuff he had going was the automatic progression bonuses. I don't know if that makes you want to test things further, but I will say that I did find a lot of the additional rule subsystems a bit daunting at first. I'd have been utterly and totally lost if I hadn't already been so familiar with the gestalt rules. (And that's not a shot against you or what you're stitching together, that's more me and my aversion to really having to dig into rules with which I'm unfamiliar given how little I'm able to access Paizo and other such sites at work these days.)

"Boo hoo." WHAM. Brock pulls his fist back from where it suddenly buried into Kraven's abdomen and watches the hunter crumple wordlessly to the ground.
Or not? The dicebot does like to lord over us at times, after all. Perhaps both of those are misses!

Brock looks down at the wounds caused by Kraven's spear and smirks. "Looks like you missed your chance to end things there, Kraven. And I'm- STILL- STANDING!" With another mighty kiai, Brock's hair begins to dance and lash as slashes of energy swirl about his body, cutting the air. Seeing Midnight crumple, Brocks explodes into a furious rage and bolts into the home with hardly any regard at all for the lion.
Coming to a stop above Midnight's broken form, Brock screams in anger and brings both fists crashing down atop Kraven in one brutal overhead smash.

I think running Crimson through it again will give us a slightly better result to compare to our previous encounter, but I also don't think it'll be so huuuuuge a benefit as to preclude you bringing in another character. Brock strides up to the door and smirks. Glancing over his shoulder at the others with an arched eyebrow that practically begs, "Can I?", he waits for a nod before bursting the door open with a heavy kick. Status:

Enlarge person and shield are the two minute-per-level buffs that are running. If Brock doesn't get the go-ahead from the others, he'll hold off on kicking open the door and will instead quaff an extract of bull's strength.

Positioning and Initiative definitely contributed to the stomp this turned into. I'd be up for resetting to the same starting conditions, just with Kraven and his kitties spread out and not in super convenient, missile/energy blast/gravitic cannon formation. Splitting our attention to various front might help alleviate some of the curbstompiness of it, and I've always been a fan of giving BBEGs/boss creatures two full turns each round. As for the buffs, mine made a huge difference for my attacks. With nothing running, Brock's hitting for a much-less-impressive 1d8+5. They had the potential to really spoil Kraven's attacks (2 chances to negate that sneak attack!) as well as his lion's, but the dicebot had some mercy on the outclassed hunter. =P

"What was that you were saying? Something about..." Brock's sentence cuts off as he suddenly bursts into motion, rushing into the enclosure after Kraven as sparks of green still dance and slash around his body. "Force it is. Good. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" As Brock shouts, his long hair begins to dance as green slashes of energy swirl and spark around him. Before the smoke from Crimson's explosion clears, the towering fighter bolts forward in a flash, still yelling, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" A swirling ball of green energy gathers in his palm before he sends it darting into Kraven. I have to confess - I thought Dantrian/Feral were complicated in the bookkeeping department. Brock here is WAAAAAAAAAAY more so! Casting the rent door aside with a smirk, Brock dashes forward in a blink and buries his fist in the shotgun toting thug's gut so deeply and with such speed that the thug is lifted from the ground briefly. Correct - I had enough movement to walk around, but a 3-panel jump sequence seemed cooler than walking =) As soon as the car alarm begins blaring, Brock dashes into motion again, sprinting across the road. Brock drops into a wide stance, his arms bent and elbows pulled in to his ribs, and looses a low kiai that gradually builds. He bats the knife strike aside before following through by stepping in toward his opponent and throwing a heavy punch to the thug's gut. "Haaaaaaaa-AH!"

Coming from the simpler/familiar is better camp, I'd have the caster choose which AC the spell applies to at the time of casting ala protection from energy. That affords the caster some level of flexibility without punishing him or her for essentially not knowing two versions of every AC boosting spell.

Brock smashes his fists together as the thugs loom across the way. Sweeping his long black hair back into a functional ponytail, he smirks and cracks his neck from side to side. "Oh this is gonna be FUN!" With a laugh, he thumbs his nose and dashes forward, watchful for any gunfire until he can narrow the gap. Wind and dust kick up in his wake as he pushes of with his trailing foot and the monkey-like tail swishing behind him dances with excitement. Can't see the map, as usual at the office, so I'm unclear as to what the intervening distance actually is. Regardless, Brock would spend his first action upping his defenses unless we were already in the thick of melee. Standard: activate shield
Am I understanding shield correctly with regard to ballistic AC in that it's half as effective (+2 to Bal AC rather than +4)?
