Just last week, I created a PC for CotCT. I'll be playing a female Varisian cleric of Pharasma. She'll be a native of Korvosa and, per Pharasma's allowed domains, will have Knowledge and Healing as her domains. I've written her background--she's a "gypsy" fortune teller. A charlatan. I figure she'll fit in well with the adventure.

One question, though. The way I have her written, she was born in the haberdasherie district (hope Korvosa has such a district!) and was fostered upon an NPC I refer to in her background write-up as Mother Crone. Mother Crone is supposed to be a bit of a charlatan herself--a "fortune teller," albeit not a very good one. More like a businesswoman, really.

So, my question...what existing Korvosan criminal organizations would be a good fit for Mother Crone? The way I see it, sometimes even Law resorts to "sub-contracting" investigative work to the city's underbelly.

Thanks for fixing that up for me. I'm sorry to be letting the sub go. Hopefully when we're back in the black I can pick up either Pathfinder or GameMastery (or both) in the future. I've always enjoyed Paizo's products.

Best of business and wishes to you guys at Paizo for 2008.

How might I go about canceling my subscription to Pathfinder? I'm tightening my budget and need to drop extras, which unfortunately includes the last bit of gaming purchases that I left on my really-want-to-have list. Is there some way I can go into My Account or My Subscriptions and drop the sub myself, or do I need the assistance of customer service? I tried fiddling with my sub to delete it but it keeps popping back up.

Thanks and sorry.

Folks,

The clock is ticking, and we still have not seen a copy of the new Fourth Edition rules, nor have we seen a draft of the new SRD. I hear conflicting things from WotC as to when (or even whether) third-party publishers will be provided the rules in time to have 4e-compatible products for next Gen Con. I have spoken before (at length) about the uncomfortable position in which this places Paizo, but I remain hopeful that we will get to look at the rules during the playtest phase and plan accordingly. This was, after all, how things worked for trusted publishers during the 2.0/3.0 transition, so I have every reason to believe that the business folks at WotC understand the benefits of third-party support when it comes to converting their audience. But still we wait.

As it stands there remains a chance that Paizo will not convert to 4.0 next year, mostly because we will not have the materials in hand with enough time to do so. The only viable option, at that point, is to stick with 3.5 for the time being. This opens the option of producing an improved "3.75" somewhere down the road to address a few commonly acknowledged problems with the rules without throwing out the three decades of tradition that have kept D&D, fundamentally, the same game since the very beginnig. At that point, it seems, Paizo would be producing a "Pathfinder" RPG that would be wholly independent of Dungeons & Dragons and Hasbro's plans. Such a plan carries with it considerable risk, but it may be the only serious option available to us for 2008.

Beyond that, it's difficult to say. If Fourth Edition is awesome and if the OGL for the game does not tie our hands creatively or financially, we'll certainly strongly consider converting, and again I'd really like to see the material in time to judge whether or not it's a good game that our audience will like. But we've already passed the deadline for August solicitations in the book trade, and at a certain point the window for us to have Fourth Edition material at launch will close....

In response to your original post, Erik, yes I would like Paizo to update Pathfinder to 4E. I would like Paizo to continue to work well with WotC.

Something I would very much like to see in Pathfinder, if possible, is the type of stat block that includes which magical auras are in play in which rooms. I don't have a lot of prep time and in the past I've always enjoyed it when Dungeon magazine would include the aura strength and school for detect magic results. Likewise, I liked seeing the "atmosphere" descriptor tags for each room that included lighting and sometimes smell.

I just got done reading the encounter with the quasit. For those of us without Book of Fiends, do you have a recommendation as to what might make a good substitution for the feats (and other tidbits) that presume use of Book of Fiends?

Thanks!

Abadar's probably got some paladins too, but they're likely to be more along the lines of those paladins who are carreer soldiers who are more into the letter of the law than the spirit of it.

Thanks for the reply, that's useful info!

The guy doing the paladin is interested in playing the phariseean style of LG--a knight who's into the letter of the law vice the spirit of the law. I haven't confirmed this with him, but I'm guessing that's why he picked Abadar. I know that when I saw him leaning toward Abadar, and also knowing that he'd expressed interest in the Blackguard PrC for later levels, Abadar seemed a good fit.

Thanks again for the great customer service in the form of this thread and the Pathfinder blog. I've encouraged my players to come read the blog.

For the Rise of the Runelords PbP game I've got going at EN World, I've recruited and settled on five players. One is interested in playing a cloistered cleric and another would like to play a paladin and is leaning toward Abadar. The potential paladin player has asked which temple in Sandpoint will be the temple being consecrated in Burnt Offering's opening. Are you able to say which temple it is?

I've got my PbP recruiting thread going fairly swimmingly for Pathfinder over on EN World. I'm recruiting for 4-6. Is Varisia low, high, or medium magic? Are psionics an innate part of the setting or are they considered an option? Other than the standard quartet of arcane magic user, healer, fighter, and rogue, is there a particular class that would come in particularly handy?

Since Paizo is teaming up with Necromancer, I hope that some of the critters from Tome of Horrors will show up in Pathfinder.

What part of Pathfinder do you want to know more about?

And should this be a multiple-choice poll?

It should be a multiple-choice poll, yes. I subscribed to Pathfinder and am recruiting on EN World for a PbP game to start August 2007. I'd love information for my players on character generation and information for me on the campaign setting.

Thanks for this thread!

My regular gaming group is largely dissolving this June due to multiple deployments, some for the year, others for shorter periods of time. I intend to start a new campaign in June for D&D and am therefore seeking 2-3 newcomers to our regular table. I can DM either a published or my homebrew D&D setting. Once I have players in place and we've all met, the group as a whole can discuss which setting they prefer to play in. The group currently meets Fridays from 7:30 pm until roughly midnight or 1 am, but this is flexible and will depend upon player need.

Interested parties should please be comfortable with small children around my home at the start of most gaming sessions. Between myself and another player, we normally have five small children around the house for roughly an hour before the little ones trundle off to bed. Though this is primarily a group of mixed branches of the military, we have gamed with civilians in the past and are certainly comfortable doing so again. We occasionally have alcohol at the table, but no one drinks to excess. Drugs are not welcome in my home (don't think I need to say that but you never know...). I'm basically looking for folks who like to game, like good company, and are mature, reasonable people.

If you feel you'd like to give the game a whirl, please contact me at darthwoolit at yahoo dot com. And thanks for reading. :)
