About Brin Shallowstep
Andoran by birth, Brin began his career as a freelance good luck charm aboard a series of merchant ships based out of Almas. However, while the nautical fortunes of the various ships he served under fared quite well, the fortunes of crew members' pockets aboard ships carrying Brin Shallowstep had an uncanny knack for suffering. As his totally undeserved reputation spread among Almas's docks, Brin found it necessary to take positions on ships with base ports further and further along the fringes of Andoran territory.
During an unfortunate stint aboard a fine, upstanding freighter which operated near the border with Cheliax, Brin had a completely explainable misunderstanding with his captain and found himself sold to a Chelish slaver, who in turn sold Brin to a Qadiran merchant prince with the eccentric habit of captaining his own flagship silk freighter.
Strangely enough, while on the way to port in Qadira, due to what must have been a miscommunication of some sort or another, the Qadiran vessel found itself in a dispute with the self-same freighter and captain who had sold Brin into slavery. During the ensuing altercation Brin lamentably had no choice but to put a crossbow bolt through the head of his once-captain. For this doleful service the merchant prince awarded Brin his freedom and a position as the prince's personal 'acquirer.'
Brin served admirably for the interminable period of six months at the prince's estate in Katheer before homesickness for Andoran cuisine urged him to seek out other opportunities closer to home (sure, Kelesh food might be better, but sometimes you just want a taste of home, and while Katheer may be more than big enough to have chefs and restaurants to meet any style, they just can't seem to get it right). He found Absalom, and the Pathfinder Society, to be a good fit.
He is also quick to point out that he has no idea what happened to the three house slaves that went missing from the prince's estate around the time he found new employment opportunities in Absalom (though he does hope Piria improved her fish and chips recipe since then).
For the most part a friendly, cheerful halfling, Brin is more than happy to share the above information with you, likely whether you asked him to or not. He is average height for a halfing, right around three feet tall, though perhaps a little on the thin side, with little of the common halfling paunch. Of course, it is a little hard to be sure, given the dark grey cloak wrapped around him and the many-pocketed shirt under it. His hair is dark brown, nearly black, and he has slightly more stubble under his nose and chin than is common among halflings. If you comment or seem to notice, he will proudly go on about his sad excuse for a beard and the many cross-racial assignations he claims his various relatives are rumored to have made.
