What happened to everyone? Nothing had been decided when I left.
It sounds to me as though you are trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
I see this discussion regarding Ninja's from this new book coming out called Ultimate Combat, and I feel that I need to make something clear. Ninja's won't replace Rogues, Ninjas ARE Rogues. Something else I can tell you is that with all of the Ninja Characters that I have played, they are never a base single class, it is always Ninja/something. They don't want people knowing they exist, and always strike from the shadows, never in a full on toe-to-toe with their opponents.
On a side note, this sounds like it is supposed to be for the Pathfinder RPG setting, which is a Fantasy setting. You add Gunpowder to it and it changes the game in unimaginable ways and it no longer stays a Fantasy setting after that. Now, if the Gunslinger were to use weapons like Cross-Bows, for example, then it stays in the realm of Fantasy. Trying to add Firearms into a Fantasy setting ruins it.
I don't really have any more time for this game so I guess I will say good bye and good luck.

The Skirmish ability that the Scout has is not really like a Sneak Attack like the Rogue gets because it was designed to add additional damage to targets that are in the Scout's line of attack, whereas Sneak Attack only works against a Single opponent. Nothing in the description of the skirmish ability in Complete Adventurer mentions anything about the scout's "line of attack". Where are you getting this from?
Brian Leichty wrote:

I don't know what rules you are using, but the description of the skirmish ability in Complete Adventurer clearly states:
Complete Adventurer wrote: Scouts can apply this extra damage to ranged attacks made while skirmishing, but only if the target is within 30 feet. Are you sure you aren't confusing the Scout class from Complete Adventurer with one from another source or possibly some DM's house rules? How often are you going to be using a Ranged Weapon? More often than not, you are more than likely going to be using some sort of Melee Weapon. The only time you might use a Ranged Weapon would be if you had an enemy that was a good distance away and couldn't close the distance easily.
I am not confusing the Scout with anything else. There are no so-called "House rules" that I am basing this from. It has been over a year and a half since I have had to know this information, so I admit I may have forgotten some of it. But I am fairly certain that I am correct.
Zurai wrote: Brian Leichty wrote: And BTW, Skirmish only works with MELEE WEAPONS, not RANGED WEAPONS. Uh, no, wrong. Nowhere is the word "melee weapon" even mentioned in the Scout class entry. In fact, it explicitly says "Scouts can apply this extra damage to ranged attacks made while skirmishing, but only if the target is within 30 feet". The book says,"She deals an extra 1d6 of damage on ALL attacks she makes during any round in which she moves at least 10 feet."
It says that the damage can be APPLIED with ranged weapons, but only if the target is within 30 feet of the person with the ranged weapon. There are lots of different ranged weapons, and they all have different ranges, but how often are you going to be using a ranged weapon. More often than not, you'll be using a Melee weapon of some sort.

The Scout class is a combination of three separate core classes; The Ranger, the Rogue, and the Monk. It was created for use in 3rd Edition to add flavor to the DM's game world. In a lot of respects, the Scout is a lot like the class that preceeds it in the Complete Adventurer, the Ninja. It works well in games based in 3rd and 3.5, but is very difficult to convert to the Pathfinder system, as I have learned because I am playing one in a Play by Post game on here. The Skirmish ability that the Scout has is not really like a Sneak Attack like the Rogue gets because it was designed to add additional damage to targets that are in the Scout's line of attack, whereas Sneak Attack only works against a Single opponent.
Skirmish also adds to the Scout's AC, thus making it more difficult to hit them. Also, it doesn't gain multiple attacks until later, as all D&D and Pathfinder Characters do.
The feats that the Scout gets are listed in the Complete Adventurer, but feats from other books, like the Players Handbook for example, can be selected if they make sense with what the player's character concept is. And BTW, Skirmish only works with MELEE WEAPONS, not RANGED WEAPONS.

On one of the games no one else but me has posted for a month but the DM refuses to admit it's dead. It drives me crazy sometimes waiting for others to post even in the games that are moving along well.
There's No Way I'd be able to just play One game and always be waiting for just that one. So I do very much recommend getting into more games if you feel you're not getting the proper RPG fix ya need ;-)
I can't do more than 1 or 2 games at a time. I am presently in a Play by EMail game where something similar is happening. My regular gaming group that I play 3rd Edition(well, 3.5) with is on hiatus for awhile with the other folks doing their own things now. So, basically this is all I have for the time being. Which is why I would like to see more regular posting from folks instead of these posting spurts.
I was wondering about something. Why is it that you folks don't post your responses more frequently? It's like there will be new posts for one or two days and then there will be no new posts for awhile, and then more new posts that you put out in spurts now and then, but not on a regular basis. That makes it difficult for me to remember what it was my character is supposed to be doing when there is this great big gap in between postings.

By the way Bogorin is about to find his way to where your character is currently located so I'll introduce you with a post from your character's point of view and go from there.
Leafy's introduction I was talking about the +1 +3 bit.

I'm playing a rogue with the same feat so not a bad choice all things considered.
By the way leather only grants a +2 AC bonus, your Dexterity bonus is +4 due to your dex being 18 thanks to being a halfling and any class skills you have even 1 skill rank in gain a +3 trained bonus ala pathfinder beta skill rules. That last part is a bit confusing. Could you please say it again and use punctuation to break up the sentence so it's easier to understand.

Halflings under beta rules gain a +2 to Charisma not Intelligence and by count you've spent 19pts not 20 so you could either increase your strength by 1 or reduce your wisdom score by 1 and then the pts gained from this and keeping your strength at your listed level to have your character's Int score remain at 14.
Could you list what skills you put points into?
Commoner: Skill points: 2+Int Modifier
Skills: Climb(Str), Craft(Int), Handle Animal(Cha), Perception(Wis), Profession(Wis), Ride (Dex) and Swim (Str).
Scout: Skill points: 8+Int modifier
Skills: Acrobatics(Dex), Climb(Str), Craft(Int), Escape Artist(Dex), Knowledge/Dungeoneering(Int), Knowledge/Geography(Int), Knowledge/Nature(Int), Linguistics(Int), Perception(Wis), Ride(Dex), Sense Motive(Wis), Stealth (Dex), Survival(Wis), Swim(Str).
For skill selection purposes you can have up to 2 skill pts in any skill on the pathfinder beta list however class skills which include any listed under your origin class (eg: Commoner) not covered by your actual PC class (eg:Scout) are also treated as class skills so they're treated as trained class skills (Which grant a +3 bonus to these specific skills).
AC: Leather is +2 AC, +4Dex and +1 racial size for a total of 17 the +6 Dex is the maximum dex bonus that can be applied to using leather armour.
Hit Points: 1d6+1d8+4 for 15hp at your current level you do get to decide whether you gain +1hp or +1 skill pt thanks to your origin class.
Save:
Fortitude: 0+2+1 for +3
Reflex: 2+4+1 for +7
Will: 0+2+1+2 for +5 (+2 vs fear)
CMB: -2(Strength modifier)-1(Size)+0(Base attack)= -3
Melee Attack: -1
Ranged Attack: +5
No problems with equipment, however what feats have you selected for your character?
Still checking. Check Table 14-7. It put the +2 under Halflings for Dexterity and Intelligence, not Charisma. But under the Racial listing it has +2 for Dexterity and Charisma. So, what do I do?

CLBeilby wrote: Brian, this particular forum is for discussion of the Pathfinder Society organized play campaign, but I'll still attempt to go ahead and answer your question.
I'm not familiar with Rise of the Runelords, but usually with an adventure path, the intention is that it is a campaign that will advance the characters from first level all the way up to the higher levels. For example, the Second Darkness adventure path is designed to end up with players at levels 15-16 by the end of the final volume.
Each adventure path goes to level 15 or 16. What I was asking was what level would the party be if they ran through ALL of the adventure paths? And I didn't know where else to post my question, so sorry if this doesn't belong here.

I was wondering about something, and this is by no means something that I am wanting to do myself, but say you had a good sized party of 1st level characters and you started them all out in the Rise of the Rune Lords adventure path and took them all the way through to the end of the latest adventure path. Suppose that they somehow managed to survive all of the adventures in between the first adventure of the Runelords series to the very end of the latest one(the name of which escapes me at the moment). By the time they reach the end of the current adventure path (and I know that there are going to be more adventure paths coming out in the future), but for this topic's sake I am talking about the adventure path that starts with the Knights of Erebus(or whatever the name of that is). What my question is is this: what level would the character's be by the time they reached the end of this current adventure path, taking into account that none of them have reached the point where they are calling it quits and retiring from adventuring? What level would they all be? I am talking about single class characters, not multi-class characters.

If you mean the pathfinder beta then yes as for any others not listed such as if they're in the complete adventurer let me know and I'll take a look it shouldn't be difficult to port over.
And as for how many feats you have you have 1 for 1st level and if you're human a bonus feat I've been including the npc level for purposes of this so when your character reaches 2nd level they'll get their next feat. Put your class on the character level section of the character sheet.

1)Its treated as High Fantasy for point buy of attributes (20pts) and Initial skill points aren't multiplied by 4
2)You get a free npc level which means you gain and additional hit die and skill points associated with that class.
3)Select on my avatar for specific changes to the Commoner class if thats what you select the only changes are a bonus +2 to one of the saves and you get to start with a weapon free of charge that you can wield without penalties.
4)Understand that any skill counted as a class skill for either your current class AND that free npc class count as class skills for skill bonus purposes as you get a +3 bonus when putting skill points into a class skill.
5)I was thinking of having you being found by the group when they find the prison where the people kidnapped from the waystation are being held but having you following them inside the lair will do fine.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Take care and all the best!

It's sounding like you need to read the Pathfinder BETA pdf Brian. You can download it for free in the My Downloads section. There's also the free player's guides for RotRL and CotCT. And of course as well Hopeless added the character creation rules in the OOC thread. If you need any other help, just ask us.
Just curious, have you played PbP's before?
It's been awhile, but yes I have. And I am in a Yahoo Groups game presently.
What I meant when I asked about the character creation process was that I wanted to know if it is rolling dice for each of the stats or if it is a point-buy system. If it is a point-buy system, then I need to know how many points I have to work with. And just so you know, I do have the Pathfinder BETA pdf on my computer(all 400 some odd pages of it).

So to rehash whats been written so far;
What I'd like to run is a 0th level game so that starting characters choose their classes from the npc classes at the start with an opening adventure set near Falcons Hollow in Andorra.
The backdrop is that the hamlet its based in is located on the trade route from Falcons Hollow and it has been beset by raids led by an Ogre accompanied by a band of goblins.
Their requests for aid from the Lumber Consortium have been turned down with no reason for the refusal so they have approached a low level member of the Eagle Knights for aid and following the latest raid she has posted a reward of 100gp per party member for the safe rescue of a pair of locals whom were kidnapped in that raid with the addendum that anything found belongs to the group as long as they make a report and show what was found to the Eagle Knight so she can complete a report on the matter.
However the only ones to step forward are a group of neophyte adventurer wannabe's who see this as their chance to become what they've always dreamed.
You can select one optional extra from the list of traits listed below and have maximum gold for buying equipment otherwise usual pathfinder beta rules.
Listed below are the basic traits you can choose;
[spoiler]
Basic Traits
These come in four types;
1) Combat
a) Anatomist: +1 to confirm critical hits
b) Armour Expert: Reduce armour check penalty by 1 to a minimum of 0
c) Bullied: +1 on opportunity attacks strictly unarmed in nature doesn’t grant access to improved unarmed attack by the way
d) Courageous: +2 to saves vs fear
e) Deft Dodger: +1 to reflex saves
f) Dirty Fighter: +1 damage with flanking attacks
g) Fencer: +1 on opportunity attacks using daggers, swords and bladed weapons
h) Killed: Deals extra damage equal to the critical multiplier of a weapon when doing a critical hit but this damage isn’t multiplied
i) Reactionary: +2 to...
Well, I've had a chance to read through this and I am thinking of running a Halfling Scout(The Scout is from the Complete Adventurer book). Let's talk about how to make this happen.
OOC: Is this game closed to new players or are new players allowed to join the game late? I am asking because I have been looking through the posts and it looks like a lot of fun. Also, I was wondering if this is a Pathfinder only game, or if you use other game books like the Complete Adventurer?
Erik Mona wrote: Agreed.
Let's all try to avoid a flamewar here. This is a legitimate topic that a lot of people are wondering about, and I'd hate for this thread to get heated to the point of uselessness.
Let me start by saying that I was not trying to start an Edition Flame War when I posted that last night. What I was trying to say, though, was that Wizard's of the Coast is more interested in selling products that make their profit margins increase, instead of making quality games that people WANT to play, like the folks here at Paizo.

Erik Mona wrote: The changes are difficult to characterize, especially because there are a LOT of little tweaks to spells and skills and stuff throughout the whole document. That said (and I think a lot of playtests have born this out), a lot of those types of changes are not immediately obvious until they come up in play. I fully expect that people will find minor changes (we like to think they're "improvements") years from now. Does a change that you don't even notice for an entire campaign make it more or less compatible with 3.5? In a lot of cases the answer is "neither." The spell is still called what it is called, but there's some minor change that makes it easier to use in play.
Then there are things that we threw in there to see how far we could take things. The original Alpha skill system is probably the best example of this, but the "rage point" mechanic is another. That sort of change grated on people because "point counting" has never really been a part of the game, and it especially hasn't been a part of a class as relatively straightforward as the barbarian. In this case we brought the new (and completely kickass) rules for raging closer to 3.5, in that they are presented in a way that will not give a heart attack to point-haters while still offering something new, cool, and exciting for the barbarian.
There are a few more examples of this, but no one should be afraid that we've suddenly added back Use Rope or we've given up on the idea of filling out dead class levels or what have you.
The previews will reveal more.
The group that I game with does not want anything to do with 4E, which is why we still use 3.5. While I am not saying that 3.5 is better or worse, I do think that we should not be forced to have to switch over to a system that is a complete and utter departure from the D&D game that we grew up playing. We grew up playing 1st and 2nd Edition, and although we were originally opposed to 3rd Edition, it has become our new game of choice, mainly because it took some of the ideas from the previous versions and streamlined them into a more workable system. 4E is just a ploy for Wizard's of the Coast to make money, and people buy it because they don't know any better. This new Pathfinder material that Paizo has put out looks very promising, I must say, and it could be compatible with v3.5 very easily. But, and let me say this, if you want to play actual D&D, you should really stick with the earlier versions of the game because they are a lot closer to the game that Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax created. This latest edition is a complete and utter departure from what they created.
Now I know that this is supposed to be talking about Pathfinder, and like I said, it could very easily be compatible with version 3.5, which is what my friends and I play now. Between all of us, we have collectively over 50 years of gaming experience. So for us old-time gamers, please make this product friendlier for us to play.
In the group that I play Forgotten Realms with, there is a rule that if you roll a 20 on a d20 that you have to roll that again to see if you actually rolled a critical hit. I personally hate that rule because it takes what should be a critical hit and removes the threat if you don't roll that again. As for fumbles, I'm not a big fan of those either, but we get to roll on a fumble chart to see what the result is, and if what we roll doesn't make sense we get to re-roll the result. There are three DM's (myself included) in our group and this group that we have now have been playing off and on together for years.

Again, sorry that you weren't what Wizards was looking for. Hopefully eventually you'll give 4th Edition another honest try.

But don't for a second think that a handful of the most active online gamers is representative of the hundreds of thousands of people who play D&D. 4th Edition should never have been released. It is incomplete, and no improvement over the previous editions.
