background:
Brenner Dewalt was a merchant sailor and a crew member of the Red Dawn, a Chelish cutter. He, his father and younger brother were all sailors in the crew. Brenner was an excellent sailor and fighter. Entering a bar brawling contest one day on a dare and nearly winning, he drew the interest of the unscrupulous Chelish Navy Captain Dialel, who drugged and forged paperwork so that he could commandeer the brawlin sailor. Brenner, after 3 months, fights, bribes, and a desperate swim to freedom later, he made it back to Kintargo. There he learned that the Red Dawn and all her crew sank in a storm a short two weeks earlier.
Working through the Knights of the Torrent he was able to recover the bodies of his loved ones. He takes every opportunity to help that order in their recovery missions to include piloting vessels and rowing long boats if asked. He feels a debt to the order and was especially touched by Lector Sabinus’s personal trip to fetch him to identify his brother and father’s bodies.
Brenner was crushed by the news and swore to give up the sailor’s life. He has been working at various odd jobs and drinking away his savings ever since. Something has to change and soon. He can’t stand anything Chelish to include the martial law and new governor. He is at the protest to look for a fight and to express his general outrage at chelish rule.
