Male Human Inquisitor 1

Brayker says, "Hmph." He peers in the distance down the other path as his horse follows the others.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

That's how I saw it too, team.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Brayker looks each party up and down. Settling on Aseve, Carbrook, and Val.

"You three better not find too much excitement without me. I might just get a bit jealous."

Male Human Inquisitor 1

"Sounds like we've got a plan."

Male Human Inquisitor 1

"I think Aseve 'as a point, but sumthin' to consider is that our job only concerns the mage."

He follows Carbrook toward the gates.

"Ya'll comin?"

"'fraid not. Suppose you might use that thing over there."

He points to a box or bucket somewhere nearby.

Brayker continues to stand ready, comforting his horse (and himself).

Looks like we're about ready to head out. Anyone seen the others?

"Not me. We don't have all day fer this."

Brayker mounts the horse with a wince, struggling.
"It's okay horse. Take it easy," he says quietly.
He scans to see if anyone is watching.
"I don't wanna hear one word!"

"I'm ready."

Once at the stables, Brayker collects a horse for himself and a pony for Aseve.

While waiting for the rest of the crew, Brayker sort of gets to know his horse. He has a quiet conversation face to face with the animal. The idea of riding a horse sort of makes him nervous.
"I don't like the idea of ridin' ya any better than you, so let's keep it civil, bub. I respect ya an' everything, but I just don't like my feet bein' too far from the ground. Understand?"

He stares right back at the serpent, eyes locked until he moves on.
"That's a mighty strange pet ya got there."

"Here, I got ya this."
He hands the reign of the pony over to Aseve (the halfling one :P).

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Hahaha! Tuck her in and read her a story? Well done.

Master Emrys has our key to the horses. As I imagine some of the rest of you may wish to retire to your lodgings and secure any of the tools of your respective trades which you do not currently carry, might I suggest 1 hour at the East Gate to begin the pursuit?'.

"Deal."

Aseve smiles and moves to follow, then stops. She sighs and turns to Brayker. "Brayker, can you get my horse for me? I just remembered I need to summon my eidolon."

"Grab my food on yer way out, and it's a deal. I'll see if they ain't got a pony er sumthin." He smiles just slightly at the thought.

Brayker takes off to the horse stables with the others.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

"Horses, huh? Pa never much cared fer ridin horses..."

Brayker stands up, excited to be going soon. He shakes out his limbs to get the blood flowin' again.

"Don't you worry, though, I'll treat 'er nice. 'ave 'er back by curfew too!"

Male Human Inquisitor 1

It's all good! The fun factor is boosted by the suspense.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Brayker is sitting there in a slumped, uncaring sort of way with his hands behind his head and his legs stretched way out.

His eyebrows furrow as he shoots a glance toward Earnest and another to Val, moving only his eyes.

"Many moons ago," says Jacques, "I was a lowly adventurer. A powerful mage offered me a commission of sorts and I never looked back. Call it passing on the favour."

"How do I know so much about you? Well that can be in part answered by all of this." He waves his arms indicating the room. "It is my business to be mysterious, to know things others can only guess at. And as for specifically how I know...I think that's best left to your return."

"I can only ask you to take on this opportunity. I have no intention of rushing you, but every minute and the trail must grow colder."

Brayker considers for a moment. Then a bit longer.

"Well, I'm in."

He shrugs.

Oh man, the anticipation in play-by-post games is totally killer, and it's still just the intro! It's such a good time.

He smiles.
"I like 'im already."
Brayker stands up casually and brushes himself off.
He walks in.

"... Guess we'll see if I perked his ears then, huh? Heh, yeah, that guy gives me the willies too ... just a bit though," Brayker responds. He's really quiet at first, but his spirits seem to be lifted somewhat as he says his piece about Hazard.

Aseve looks uncomfortable at Brayker's temporary loss of composure. "That may not be the polite thing to do, Brayker. I'm sure our mysterious benefactor is going as fast as he can."

Brayker bows his head and relaxes, letting his arms hang at his side. He sits down at the nearest lean-to (i.e. a wall, tree, etc).

"Right. The polite thing ... Apologies."

He'll focus on listening to the conversation of others as he calms.

Aseve looks a bit confused. She stands, staring at him, for a few moments. Then she laughs. "Sounds good, then. So who are you looking for?"

Looking distinctly more solemn, he says, "Her name's Evelyn. Likely dead. Either way, I don't much care fer slavers ... So when's this gate gonna open anyway? I haven't got all day!"

Brayker lets out a grunt and gives the gate a good shake.

Aw, shucks. Thanks! Vigilance is my game.

"I hate slavers..." he growls, "We'll get along just fine."

Aseve sighs. "You have yet to answer that question myself, but I suppose I'll go first. I'm seeking a young elf child by the name of Benhov. The note said that they could provide me with the information for a 'small favor'. Of course, it's not the first time somebody's sent me a note like that, but it does have the strangest delivery method yet." She smiles. "Your turn."

"Why ya lookin for this kid? Just so happens I'm searchin for someone myself. Has nothin ta do with the note though. Note says sumthin 'bout an incarnation. Peaked my interest, ya know," says Brayker as he taps on his wooden symbol of a rose growing from a bloody street.

Brayker sizes up the group and looks up and down the gates.
"Hopefully this don't take too long."
He crosses his arms and taps his foot impatiently.
"So whaddya'll doin here?"

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Brayker bows his head and offers a silent prayer to those who are passing on. "You're now free. Good journey," he says aloud.

"Eh, what was..."
He notices the note in his pocket.
"How did... Hmph."

He reads the note and glances down at the rat. With a roll of his eyes and a sigh, Brayker motions the rodent onward.
"Lead on, oh noble guide."

Male Human Inquisitor 1

I'd vouch for a Monday start as well :D

Male Human Inquisitor 1

@abstract gm - The first idea sits a little better with me, even though it's well within my character to go to a job board. I don't see why either shouldn't be utilized, depending on a quest's particulars.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Background
Brayker lived most of his life in a small settlement outside of Maheto. He has quite the distaste for slavery and tyranny due to his hometown sweetie being sold by her father just as their love was blossoming. Though he believes Evelyn to be dead, he hopes his quest will someday lead to her, one way or another. In an effort to save her, he attacked the slaver and his cronies, but never stood a chance. They tossed his body cliff-side. Brayker lives, and he's come to Cassomir for the rumors of slave trade.

Description
Brayker uses only basic weapons such as the dagger and sling because he believes that power comes from the wielder's passion and faith. He dresses like Van Helsing, but with some five-o'clock shadow that he keeps tidy with his blade. While not the friendliest guy around, he isn't too rude either. He just tells it like it is.
