Brandt finds the whole scene very suspicious, far too peaceful for a camp of beastmen in hostile territory.

He looks around carefully, agreeing with Erodin's idea, but wondering if the Beastmen were doing exactly the same.

"Maybe we could send one in to see if it is an ambush?" He says quietly.

Brandt nods agreeably. "That sounds very fair Sir." He hands over the 20gp to Goldhall and waits patiently for any results.

As he waits he looks over the chapel seeing the hard work going into it, thinking how much an area of worship would benefit the keep. He also ponders ways of keeping Eina of the booze. :)

Brandt has been quiet as he devours his breakfast with the appetite of a growing boy.

When he's finished he takes the captured staff to Goldhall, strolling along with Carith and waiting politely for the Cleric to conclude his business with the man.

Nodding politely to Goldhall when he has a chance to speak. "Good morning to you sir. We captured this staff from the Shaman who was attempting to work some mischief under the keep last night. I was hoping you could tell me something of it's properties?"

Sorry I've been so quiet, I've had a busy week and then I had to catch up on the games I run after the board crash.

Brandt awoke and stretched, to his surprise he'd slept well. Sitting up he cleaned himself and dressed, stomping his feet to adjust to his new boots.

Once ready he headed downstairs, his pace quickening as the aroma of a wonderful breakfast reached him. His gaze passed over the three Elves without stopping. 'They are going to be trouble.' He thought privately.

Sitting himself down and greeting his fellow party members pleasantly he made sure to thank Daelin and Lafsa for their work on the food. Then settled down to see how much he could put inside himself.

When the conversation turned to what to do Brandt finished his mouthful politely before speaking up. "We still do not know what the staff we took from that foul priest can do. And we have to decide on who will take the ring."

He turned to Pinto. "Since it can store a minor spell we could place a healing spell in it and then you would have it to use if you were in the midst of battle."

He took a drink of strong tea. "Aside from that I'm going to wait for the good captain to visit us. See how much we have in bounties and then do some shopping."

Something mentioned the other day comes back to him. "I remember the captain offered a reward for lost cargo. Lost by the mudslide we passed coming to the keep?"

"Poison seeds grow poisonous fruit." Brandt nods, he doesn't like what needs to be done, but he will do it. He draws his cold iron long sword and takes his place, ready to start destroying the eggs.

Brandt looks over the items that show up as magic. Putting his memory to work and thinking of all he's read on the various trinkets used to store magic.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Take that as an Aid another.

"The Ring is one of protection." He states. "And you can store a small spell in it. Very handy.

"The Staff is unknown to me sadly." He shrugs.

After looking around the chamber warily Brandt slowly relaxes. "That's all of them." The lack of any other entrances worries him until he remembers the Grumpkin burrow through the earth.

He makes sure to congratulate the soldiers and the captain as well as his friends.

"Good idea!" Brandt agrees, a bit short of breath as he hustles after the obnoxious thing. With a wave of his hand Dancing lights lit up the dark cave and he moved towards it.

Cast Dancing lights, then move towards the cave.

Glancing around as his chant ends Brandt notes that Taecuss has the Gremlin harassing him. Deciding he can be of more use there than joining the fray around the Elemental he heads towards the ramp.

Moving to aid Taecuss.

Slight change in Brandt's circumstances. Thank to my forgetting I had the Skald's vigor feat Brandt is at 18/18 hp. Heals 2 hp a round while using raging song.

Since there's plenty of people attacking with metal Brandt pauses and tries a long shot. Casting his last spell on the Shaman

Ear-piercing scream Fort save DC13:

You unleash a powerful scream, inaudible to all but a single target. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 points of sonic damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d6). A successful save negates the daze effect and halves the damage.

Healed a touch by the brave priest of Iomedae Brandt moves quickly over the Pinto. "A heal coming for you!" He calls out in warning as he reaches out to place a hand on the man.

Sorry, yesterday became very busy for me. I didn't have any real time to sit down and update.

Brandt takes a 5' step back, cutting at the Grumpkin in front of Smuckers. "Don't get bottled up here!" He yells to the guards. "Spread out and use your numbers!"

'Huh, studying old battles must have helped me more than I thought?' He ponders, remembering to stay focused on the battle he was in.

Brandt will advance to the nearest Grumpkin, best to keep them divided rather than letting them mob on person.

Brant will wait until everyone is in position, but before they start their surprise round actions. He will use Raging song to grant anyone who wishes to use it Inspired rage on the surprise round.

Brandt wracks his memory for anything he can find on the creature, but is unable to be much assistance.

Knowledge Planes(Untrained): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Skalds are like Bards and can make all Knowledge checks untrained.

"When we move I will use my chant for those who wish it. Then I will focus on dealing with the Grumpkins while those who can deal with the Cleric and creature."

He does remember one thing. "I do have one spell that might hurt the creature. But only slightly. I will use it when asked."

Ear piercing scream 1d6 sonic damage and dazed for 1 round, but a really low save needed to avoid being dazed.

Brandt looked conflicted, on one hand charging into a fight with overwhelming odds would be a great tale for the ages, but failing and leaving these things unknown to the Keeps defenders would be a true blunder.

"Perhaps it would be better if we watched? Taecuss can stay unseen and observe them, signalling the rest if action is needed. I'll run and tell the captain what we've found. He may have something that can stop this monster, and they will be prepared if the Grumpkins breakout inside the keep."

Brandt gives Eiana a solid hand on her shoulder. "It's never weak to grieve. And ignore the fools who tell you not to fight. When it's 'Die on your feet, or live on your knees!' I know what I choose."

He wants to continue, but looking around can see the others seem to have vanished? "Looks like we still have some fighting to do? Are you ready?"

Brandt holds Eina as she sobs on his shoulder. "Not alone." He growls. "When you're ready to make them pay the blood price I'll be there!"

He stays silent after that, not wanting to give Eina hollow platitudes or empty promises. 'She's been holding this alone for too long.' He thinks grimly. 'Getting it out in the open will help her heal.

Brandt is trying to offer comfort, and a reason to keep going without falling into offering empty platitudes.

Seeing Eina looking so depressed worries Brandt, once he's properly cleaned of the muck he walks over and sits beside her, putting a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Easy lass. Poor Erodin feels like falling on his own blade right now, and you look like this has bought back too many bad memories."

He gives her a reassuring smile. "Twice now they've made me the fool as well. But we're all still alive and tougher for the battles. You can share your sorrows with me if it would ease your heart."

Once he stops gagging Brandt straightens up, still looking green. "Sounds like some form of spell?" He guesses. "That little monster was throwing some magic our way, at least before he scuttled off."

'Twice now I've fallen to those filthy things!' He thinks furiously, clenching his hand around his swords hilt at his own weakness.

Brandt is busy giving the cat the attention it wants and just watching the room quietly. Setting everything into place in his mind.

He raises an eyebrow at the Elves reaction to Pinto but still doesn't speak.

"Stew and bread will be more than enough thank you." He smiles at Lafsa, ordering a bowl for himself.

He nearly chokes at the amount of the bounties. 'The Baroness is very serious about clearing these lands it seems.'

When Pinto and the Elves finish their conversation he smiles again at Pinto's word. "They seem more unsure than arrogant to me. Putting on a haughty show hoping to impress others."

He looks around but sees Taecuss is still away getting he bounties. "Taecuss has been nothing but a good friend since we met him. These ones looked more like younglings trying not to show how scared they are in front of more seasoned warriors."

Checking his name was spelled correctly Brandt signed beside it, and noted his occupation as 'Teacher'

Remembering the Eina wasn't familiar with this set of runes he waited and lead her through the process, showing how her named was spelled and where to make her mark. Something he was familiar with doing for the young back in his hometown.

In the Sleeping dragon he politely greeted the couple running it, bending over and holding out his hand to make the acquaintance of the cat. "Hello little hunter. How is the mousing for you?"

Straightening up with a smile he asked Lafsa. "Is there any chance of hot water for a bath?" While looking around hopefully for a board with the inns meals listed.

Brandt stood and stared with awe at his first sight of a Dragon, easy prey had it decided to attack. He listened with intent interest to Taecuss's information. Mind whirling with the thought of combat with such a creature, and how different it would be to the legends of heroes.

"Beastmen, Grumpkin's and now a Dragon." He sighed. "The historian and tale teller side of me is very happy. The side that sees how much hard work we have ahead of us is a lot less cheerful." He gives a rueful smile.

At the bridge.
He nods agreement when the others decide to head to the keep. "Someplace dry sounds very good at the moment."

At the keep.
Making sure his badge was ready to be shown if asked for Brandt steps out in his turn. "Brandt Holgarson. Signed up by Lord Cortland and sent her to serve the Baroness." He calls up to the guard. Standing beside Erodin with weapons sheathed.

Brandt looks up from where he's been dragging the corpses away from the trail once Taecuss has gone over them. "Anyone need any healing?" He asks, looking over the others with belated concern.

Brandt has been taking a few deep breaths to quell the nausea, for a change grateful for the rain as it washes the disgusting mucus off him.

"Well fought!" He agrees happily. "Had we taken them as singles they would have picked us apart. Between the shield wall and the archers they were defeated without harm to us."

He grimaces at the memory of the snot rockets. "Except for a bit of bruising to the pride."

Brant couldn't say if it was the sickness or the sheer disbelief that made him unable to respond for a frozen moment?

'Did that damned thing just...? On me!' Was all that he could manage to think.

He managed to stagger beside Eina, shield up against the Grumkin close to her. Only an effort of will keeping his belly's contents inside.

This is definitely not going in the saga!

Since it's Difficult terrain Brandt's action for Round 2 will be to join the front line.

Brandt pushed his soaked hair out of his eyes again, muttering blackly about water that fell so inconsiderately from the sky.

Looking at the muddy battle ground he groaned. "Yet another detail the sagas never mentioned. Water running down my neck, and half the land is carried on my boots!"

Brandt no like rain!

Surprise round action from Brant is to cast Dancing lights around the Grumpkins. Illuminating as much as possible for those of us with Lowlight or Dark vision.

1st round action is Raging song. Everyone can choose to use the Inspired Rage.

Inspired Rage:

Inspired Rage (Su) At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a -1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. (Unlike the barbarian's rage ability, those affected are not fatigued after the song ends.) If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward). However, inspired rage does not allow the ally to activate abilities dependent on other rage class abilities, such as rage powers, blood casting, or bloodrager bloodlines; the ally must activate her own rage class ability in order to use these features.

Hammering the flat of his axe against his shield Brandt starts his blood stirring chant.
