Silver Crusade

"Boomer ready for Ten Eyes! Boomer born ready!" A strange gnome, disguised as a goblin jumps with excitement, before breaking into a bizarre drinking song:

"Boomer sneak and Boomer fight,
Boomer bomb and Boomer bite,
Bane of man and bane of horse,
After me eat and drink, of course!
"

OMG! Today is now: (1) MLK Day; (2) my brother's birthday; and (3) John Compton Appreciation Day!

Silver Crusade 3/5

He's Str based and it's a transmuter. The stat boost is ok.

This is not the most optimized character. He is just fun. He mostly just takes levels in the same classes of other characters who impress him. He had taken a level of gunslinger for a while, but he was never using his gun, so I trained it out for fighter instead.

By the way, you can get a single 5d6 sphere from a necklace of fireballs for 2 prestige. You can get an Nd6 sphere for N×150 gp (where N is between 2 and 10).

PRD wrote:
Spheres come in different strengths, ranging from those that deal 2d6 points of fire damage to those that deal 10d6. The market price of a sphere is 150 gp for each die of damage it deals.

Another tip: In order to avoid worrying about rounding the costs, many players with alchemists simply buy items in groups of three. So 3 alchemist's fire for 20 gp, 3 acid flasks for 10 gp, etc.

I don't have any characters at 11 or above, but I have a 10th-level melee type (with a smattering of spell-casting) who is on the cusp of 11. He has only 1 XP to go before level 11.

His list of gear might be a little unconventional for you, but here it is:

  • +1 shadow studded leather armor,
  • +1 horse bane dogslicer,
  • +1 undead bane silver flail,
  • +1 human bane ogre hook,
  • hat of disguise,
  • ring of feather falling,
  • belt of giant strength +2,
  • eyes of the eagle,
  • slippers of spider climbing,
  • sleeves of many garments,
  • handy haversack,
  • collar of obedience,
  • wand of cure light wounds,
  • wand of cure moderate wounds,
  • wand of reduce person,
  • wand of invisibility,
  • wand of scorching ray,
  • rod of wonder,
  • ember staff

He blew a lot of his money on the last four items, but it has been totally worth it.

    Boomer sneak and Boomer fight,
    Boomer bomb and Boomer bite,
Bane of man and bane of horse,
Boomer eat and drink, of course!

    Boomer run and Boomer jump,
    Boomer slash and Boomer thump,
Burn the skin and bash undead,
    Boomer smart and you dumb-head!

Me be Boomer. Some longshanks calls me Boomer the Mad, but me not mad. Me...disappointed. Nice pretty longshanks in shiny full plate say me join Silver Crusade. Me join crusade, but me no get silver, except this silver flail that bashes undead real good.

Me come from Licktoad tribe. Licktoads real good to Boomer. Only hit Boomer when fun. Licktoads fed Boomer lots of yummy treats—frogs, snails, bugs, worms, dog-tails, and horse-foot. Licktoad tribe raise Boomer from small Me to big Me. Me become part of Licktoad tribe when learn to produce flames. They like Boomer then!

Me leave Licktoads to see big world. Boomer join Pathfinder Society after seeing chronicle book. Licktoads not like read books, but Me like read books. Pathfinder Society appreciate Boomer talents—getting into places quietly, and then burning them down. Pathfinder Society also send Boomer to weddings and operas. Me love weddings.

Me have tattoo of Lissala cult. Vampire lady asked where Me want it. Boomer show her where to put it. Want to see it?

Boomer is actually a gnome (so no race boon). He was kidnapped as a child by goblins, and raised as a pet. While in captivity, he developed Stockholm Syndrome, and now identifies as a goblin. He found a hat of disguise early in his career as a Pathfinder, and now normally dons the visage of the goblin alchemist from the Licktoad tribe (who mentored him in alchemy before he set out into the world).

Boomer primarily studies alchemy, but also dabbles in other pursuits. His prized possessions are his wand of invisibility, horse-bane dogslicer, human-bane ogre-hook, undead-bane silver flail, rod of wonder, and most importantly his ember staff—the goblins that raised him instilled in Boomer an insatiable psychotic love of fire.

Boomer is the character I will soon be taking through Eyes of the Ten. I built him as a lark, but he has become my favorite character to play. I'm proud to say that most people who play at a table with Boomer have fun, and I've been asked more than once to bring Boomer to a specific scenario.

    Silver Crusade 3/5

I started my career with an "N" written in for alignment. Anyone who has played with this character probably realized that this character was way more chaotic than anything else. So I added a "C" in front of the "N". I didn't need GMs to track this alignment change. It was obvious.

That said, I have seen characters who definitely needed alignment tracking.

The most egregious was the arsonist paladin. I played a few scenarios with that guy. He wanted to burn down every building we came across. "What's the big deal? Only the bad guys are inside," he said to me once after I protested. I thought the GM should mark him toward chaotic, but the GM was new and didn't really feel comfortable making that sort of call at the time.

Like Walter said, if the character has any sort of alignment restrictions, we should be tracking those actions. A cleric who worships a NE deity must remain neutral in this campaign. We should be tracking both axes in both directions.

But for other characters, I think it is sufficient to just gently say to the player, "Hey your character acts pretty lawful. You might want to reconsider what you have written down for your alignment."

The exception is the cloak of resistance. I've got 12 characters and I've never bought a Cloak of Resistance.

And this is why the collar of obedience went from an occasional use item to a good buy.

    Here fighter fighter fighter...

I think I might need one of those.

I'm 10th level, and my Will saves are +1

Silver Crusade is right out, terrible idea, someone would be shanked.

I know one character that was Silver Crusade but secretly "worked" for another Faction (though I can't remember if it was Cheliax or something else). I wasn't around him enough to see how his Faction missions turned out.

Nothing's impossible, but some are a stretch.

    bolded for emphasis

Nothing's impossible when mixed with a helping of insanity.

Now where is all that silver you guys promised me if I joined your crusade?

I am so glad we are having this discussion. So many new ideas!

I'm not discouraging this in any way, (it makes for good role-playing), I'm curious how many have joined factions for less obvious reasons.
I am currently the only respondent who is a Chaotic Neutral member of the Silver Crusade! I had been hoping for more "silver" and less "crusade", alas. The stuffed shirts around the lodge get on me quite a bit, but at least they keep me well fed.

Yeah, and I'm one of the two LN members of the Silver Crusade. That character is a refugee from the Shadow Lodge, and it almost came down to a coin flip between SC and Cheliax when she had to find a new faction.

For her, Good is aspirational. She really respects what the Silver Crusade is trying to achieve. She just always reserves the right to use less savory methods when necessary.

She always feels bad about it afterwards. Just not too bad.

Boomer also is refugee from Shadow Lodge. :)

I'm a pyrokineticist. The Licktoads liked my aptitude with flame. His Mighty Girthiness declared me goblin and a goblin I am!

Some other Pathfinders have claimed I'm a gnome. They're as crazy as Vorka.
