Gnome Magic: spell-like abilities: 1/day—dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation, and speak with animals. The caster level for these effects is equal to the gnome's level. The DC for these spells is equal to 10 + the spell's level + the gnome's Charisma modifier.
Keen Senses: +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.
Obsessive: +2 racial bonus on a Craft (Alchemy)
Eternal Hope: Once per day, after rolling a 1 on a d20, the gnome may reroll and use the second result.
Seeker Trait: +1 to Perception and it is a class skill
Inspired Panache: 3 points/day; an inspired blade gains panache only from scoring a critical hit with a rapier.
Derring-Do (Ex): Spend 1 panache point when she makes an Acrobatics, Climb, Escape Artist, Fly, Ride, or Swim check to roll 1d6 and add the result to the check. She can do this after she makes the check but before the result is revealed. If the result of the d6 roll is a natural 6, she rolls another 1d6 and adds it to the check. She can continue to do this as long as she rolls natural 6s, up to a number of times equal to her Dexterity modifier (minimum 1).
Dodging Panache (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent attempts a melee attack against the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action spend 1 panache point to move 5 feet; doing so grants the swashbuckler a dodge bonus to AC equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 0) against the triggering attack. This movement doesn’t negate the attack, which is still resolved as if the swashbuckler had not moved from the original square. This movement is not a 5-foot step; it provokes attacks of opportunity from creatures other than the one who triggered this deed. The swashbuckler can only perform this deed while wearing light or no armor, and while carrying no heavier than a light load.
Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent makes a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point and expend a use of an attack of opportunity to attempt to parry that attack. The swashbuckler makes an attack roll as if she were making an attack of opportunity; for each size category the attacking creature is larger than the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler takes a –2 penalty on this roll. If her result is greater than the attacking creature’s result, the creature’s attack automatically misses. The swashbuckler must declare the use of this ability after the creature’s attack is announced, but before its attack roll is made. Upon performing a successful parry and if she has at least 1 panache point, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action make an attack against the creature whose attack she parried, provided that creature is within her reach. This deed’s cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs.

Background:

Does it surprise you when I tell you that not everybody appreciates me? Please, dear reader, do not scoff because I assure you it is indeed the case. You of course know me as Blue, the blade of Central Issia. When I was a younger man growing up on the fringes of Port Ice, I went by the name of Feebir Fims. Few were the children at the Oak Hill Day School who understood...no, appreciated the beauty of appropriately crafted wordplay. The obvious result of this misunderstanding for a young gnome was the attention of young ruffians willing to speak with their fists. This is where being half the size of a comparably aged human worked against me. So it was that I would arrive at school with the skip in my step of boundless enthusiasm and leave with the limp of a beaten child.

Do not weep for me. These challenges only served to strengthen my resolve. The solution to my problems came in the form of Captain Enrico Montes. Ho ho! You recognize his name? I assure you, the stories of his piracy are vastly overblown. What is not exaggerated in the stories, though, is his skill with the blade. The man moves like water and cuts like the winter wind.

The snow was six inches deep, mounded up around my beaten body when he found me. What motivates a retired human sea captain to take pity upon a young gnome? I do not know the answer to this question. But pity he did take. He brought me to his home, paid for the services of a healer and fed me. As I took my leave of the man, he flipped me a silver and smiled. The Captain, you see, was never one for words.

I returned the next day and found a blade sized for my small body with a note next to it, asking me to find him on the quarterdeck of his flagship, the Maria Celeste. Of course I sought him out! Here was a man willing to save me from the ignorance of my peers. For weeks we sparred through the mid-winter weather. My feet learned every seam and scratch on that great ship as we danced around, thrusting and parrying. The only thing he ever asked of me was my diligence as his pupil and maybe a fine word or two.

As I grew older, Captain Montes introduced me to much of the establishment of our fair city. I soon learned that his lessons did not end at the quarterdeck. My captain did not use many words, nor did his victims realize they had been skewered by his cutting gibes until the fight was over. Alas, my captain and I have different styles which I’m sure you have learned by now.

Appearance:

Blue’s name, not surprisingly comes from his appearance. His skin is a pale tan with just the faintest blue tint to it. His fingernails, lips and eyes are a much more pronounced blue color. On the first day of summer every year, Blue shaves his head; by the last day of spring, his jet black hair is neatly slicked back and ready for a new year. His manners are refined; his mannerisms vary from ebullient to reserved as the social situation requires.
