Backstory:

Bintos had a rather dull childhood. Her parents took good care of her, helped her with her schoolwork (she needed it), and treated her to trips into Galduria on market days. She grew up a proper young lady, being groomed from an early age to take her place as the family's cleric of her generation, as her mother had been before her.

On her sixteenth birthday, her parents hosted a grand feast for all Bintos' friends and extended family. After everyone had eaten and danced and sung, her father stood up and spoke for some time about how proud he was of his daughter, who would serve Sarenrae and bring honor to her family. Bintos smiled and returned the hugs of those around her. No one mentioned her less-than-average intelligence, or their fears that she wasn't cut out for a life in the clergy.

The next day, Bintos was taken into Galduria and presented at the temple. She was permitted to bring a few books and some clothing; her childhood was over, they told her, so no toys or games were permitted. She was a servant of Sarenrae now. That day was the longest of her life. Her training started with armor, and weapons, and a myriad of confusing theological lectures and seminars.

Bintos knew about Sarenrae, and Desna, and many others of the Good gods, but she felt no particular connection to Sarenrae. Her teachers and peers extolled Sarenrae daily, and Bintos daily grew more distraught with her family’s expectation that she become Sarenrae's servant. How could she serve a being for whom she felt nothing? Through the months that followed, Bintos became more and more contemplative, falling behind in her classes and gaining disapproving looks from her instructors. When it finally came time for the apprentices in Bintos' group to begin learning spells, Bintos would attend, listening carefully, but was unable to cast the simplest orison.

After a time, though she knew nothing of it, Bintos came to the attention of Irori, and he began to bestow his favor upon her. One day in class, after spending the morning studying, Bintos was able to detect the magical aura of the item that the teacher was holding up. She was startled; this had never happened before, and she could not explain it. She knew that she was no chosen of Sarenrae... so why was Sarenrae favoring her with this ability?

Months passed, and Bintos continued to study, but her studies had become more focused on understanding and improving herself. The breaking point came one day during a test of the apprentices' religious knowledge. Bintos, having studied copiously beforehand, had just finished when one of her fellow apprentices sighed and scribbled through an answer he'd written. Bintos reached over and patted him on the back, whispering, "You can do it, Faerni."

Faerni got that question right, but the next day, just two years into her apprenticeship, Bintos was expelled from the temple. They called it "encouraging her to move on," but that didn't relieve her visions of her father's disappointment, her mother's disgrace... and of herself, the daughter who wasn't good enough.

Bintos left Galduria the same day, and paid a passing merchant for a ride into Wolf's Ear. It was the farthest she'd ever been from home, but it was nowhere near far enough. After a sleepless night, Bintos wandered into the forest in a daze. Directionless and apathetic, she wandered around for unknown days and nights, seeing and hearing nothing. At some point, a kindly old druid found her in the western forest, took her in, fed her, and caused her to sleep peacefully for the first time since she'd left Galduria. The next day while she was still asleep, the druid carried her out of the forest and into the Fogscar mountains.

She awoke in a strange place, surrounded by human-like creatures she realized must be dwarves. They fed her and offered her a place to stay, and in her heart she knew she must stay with them. Through the years that followed, Bintos learned from the dwarves all they had to teach her about Irori, the mountains, and the ground beneath her feet. They taught her that it had always been Irori she had been seeking, and that it had been he who had favored her with her abilities. Though they could not increase her scholarly knowledge, they taught her of the birds and beasts, and how to serve Irori in her own way.
