"Stable, eh? Lady, I'm about as unstable as you can be and still walk upright. No offense, Sam, but you don't know anything about me. Where I've come from, what I've done. Hells, I don't even know what I'm doing half the time." Bex shakes his head as if to clear it. "Never mind. I don't know what I'm talking about. I just don't think anybody's ever described me that way before. But if a good lay is all you need for some stability in your life, then who am I to argue?"
"Anyways, I don't know how much of a plan I've got, but I've got a ticket to an arena about at Zincher's tonight. I'm sure I can bring you along. All I was thinking of was betting on some fights. That's where the risk comes in. You might make a stash, you might lose it all. I guess it depends on how hard up you are."

Bex waves away Sam's thanks and explanation. "Work there however long you want. Hells, I'm just there to make some cash. You'd be surprised at the calming, meditative qualities of gold," he says with a smile.
He pours himself a glass of wine. "What is it with those Cyphermages anyway? You're right, you don't see a lot of other wizards around, Mordecai's 'pet' a notable exception. Okay, so they're studying the Cyphergate. Sure it's old, but it's just an arch. Made out of stone. What do they hope to find? What's the appeal? Isn't the ability to fry a man from a hundred paces enough for you people?"
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius tries to track down Sam, to see if she knows any more out of work wannabe cyphermages. Then he'll do another circuit of the bars and brothels, looking for people to recruit.
Male Tiefling Monk 1
"I can take care of that for you," Bexilarius cheerfully tells Angvar as he enters the kitchen. "One quick snap of the neck. No fuss, no muss." He makes a wringing motion with his hands, then laughs. "What's for breakfast?" he asks the room.
I really wanted to say, "I'm your huckleberry," in response to that, but Bex doesn't really give off that Val Kilmer/Doc Holliday vibe.

Bex greets Sam. "Congratulations on the job," he tells her. "And you too," he adds as an afterthought to the other girl. "Why don't you see if you can find us something to eat?" he asks the two women. "I'm starved."[/b]
Bexilarius pours his own pint of ale and joins Larur and Beyar. "A few days, huh? I thought we were going to start making some money. Has Saul hired anyone else yet, or just these two?"
Male Tiefling Monk 1
"Thanks for the tip, bub," Bexilarius says with a nod to the bartender. He pauses on his way out to give the thug's body one last kick, then heads outside. Bex takes a look at the locket in the light, and seeing only a family memento, tosses it into the gutter. "Better luck next time, Lungwater," he mutters.
He feels good after his workout, so he saunters down the street, whistling a little ditty, every now and again glancing up at the Blot hanging in the sky. His meandering footsteps eventually bring him back to the Gold Goblin.

"Huh. Lungwater. Poor sap." Bex pockets the coins and the ticket, and lays the short sword on the bar. "For your trouble," he tells the bartender. "Zincher's arena, eh? I already got a job, but I'll keep it in mind. I'll at least check out a match," Bex adds, waving the ticket. Then Bex takes a closer look at the locket. Any pictures or anything special about it, other than the missing cover?

"The Sisters of the Golden Erinyes." Bexilarius wipes his bloodied knuckles on the mans shirt, then puts his own shirt back on. He kneels down to search the man for anything of value.
Male Tiefling Monk 1
"You didn't mean nuthin' by it?" Bex asks. "So you did say it. Which means I didn't misunderstand you. So yes, you stupid mud-blood, I am going to kick your ass all the way to the Arch of Aroden!" Bexilarius points at the other men behind him. "And don't think you can just run away. You're in this too, boys. NOW BRING IT ON!!" Bex explodes into motion, hands and feet flashing as he lashes out at the man in front of him.

Bexilarius slowly stands up, taking the time to clean the spilled booze from his front. Only when he is done does he turn around to face the men. "I'm sorry, but I thought I just heard 'sideshow' come out of your rathole. Now it's noisy in here, and it's possible I may have misheard you." As Bex speaks, he takes off his shirt, revealing the scars on his body, including the bright red, half-healed one on his chest. "I'm just happy it was s%ty rotgut you made me spill, and not some of Taldor's finest." He folds his shirt and lays it neatly on the bench, then cracks his neck with an audible pop. Suddenly, Bex flips his mug into the air, and with a spinning kick sends it flying across the room to shatter against the wall. "So which is it, pigmeat? Did I mishear you, or am I finally gonna get some real exercise?"

"Better them than you. I'll give you a life lesson free of charge. There's two kinds of people in this world - those who take what's given to them, and those who take what they want. How you take it is up to you, but it's a far cry better than just waiting to see what happens. And if you're careful, you'll live longer too."
Bexilarius flags the barmaid again and orders Mel a drink anyways. "Drink up. You're alive to die another day. Ain't nothing wrong with that." Bex raises his own glass in salute.

Sense Motive (1d20+2=20)
"What's up, kid?" Bexilarius asks nonchalantly. "I thought you could handle any 'trouble on the street' just fine. You seemed able to take care of yourself just fine back at the Goblin." Bex takes a sip from his drink and grimaces at the taste. "Not that I care, mind you. But I might help out if you're looking for a little payback."
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius saunters over to Mel and takes a seat next to him. "Mel, isn't it? What are you up to in a dive like this?"
He flags a passing barmaid (or the bartender, if this place doesn't have barmaids) for a drink. "You want anything?"
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius isn't about to try recruiting at the other gambling halls he occasionally visits. Maybe a few of the dealers or bouncers might be interested in a new job, but he doesn't want the hassle of crimelords chasing him down for stealing their staff. Saul hired him as a dealer, not a recruiter. He does decide to visit a few of the drinking dens and brothels he's known to haunt, however, leaving word with bartenders and madames that the Gold Goblin is hiring and the money is good. After that, it's a beautiful day, and the world is his oyster...
I'm happy to join up with one of the other groups wandering around. If he's not out whoring or gambling, Bex is a free agent... :)

Male Tiefling Monk 1
"Maybe I should start charging you some coin for sleeping with me," Bexilarius responds. His voice is all business, but his hands are clearly more interested in play. "Bartending, waitressing, whatever you want. Bring along anyone else who might be interested. As for the other new 'partners,' they all got involved in the heist last night like me. There's a half-orc bird whose personality is about as nice as her face, has a thing for plants. And a sailor, who seemed a bit too conveniently drunk last night. I think he may be hiding something. And lastly, some foreign guy, pale and gaunt a priest maybe. And get this, he took the wizard that was running the heist last night as his personal slave. Some kid just joined up too, quick on his feet, but green. "
"So do I trust 'em? Do I trust Saul? Hells no, but I'll milk 'em all for they're worth while I'm there. I had that chest of Saul's coin in my hand, and could have slipped away easily. But I decided to play it this way, see how things turn out. It should be safer than the other work I've been doing lately."
Bex occupies his mouth in other ways for a few moments, then abruptly stops and rolls Sam to the side. He stands up. "Anyways, I've got some other business to do. Stop by the Goblin, and tell 'em I sent you. You should be able to cash in your chips too. See you around, Sam." Bexilarius throws her a wink and heads out the door.
Always leave 'em wanting more...
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius clears a spot to sit down next to Sam. "Because of my 'heroics' at the casino last night, I've been made a junior partner at the Gold Goblin," he tells her. "Which means it's not too late to cash in your chips, on one condititon: you come and work for us. I know you said you were looking for work, and we've got just about any position you want open - server, croupier, maybe even security. You're not the only one who decided to jump ship after last night's attempted heist." Bex subtly stresses 'attempted.' "In any case, we'll be stepping up security, and as far as I know there's no more big tournaments planned, so it should be relatively safe. Except for, perhaps, the wandering hands of patrons," Bex adds, sliding his hand inside her robe. "You game?"

"Blood, chaos, and blindness can have that effect on anyone, I suppose. It's a shame you bolted before you could cash in your winnings, though. I had to ask Calistria to help me celebrate."
Bex's eyes rove up and down over Sam's body. "Aren't you going to invite me in?"
Like the new avatar for her, BTW!
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius heads out into the town, thinking of anyone he might know to work at the Goblin. His mind naturally turns to Sam. She lost it last night, but I don't think that was business as usual. The least I can do is let her know they're hiring, and maybe get a free tumble to boot. He makes his way to the tiny apartment in the Wharf district she took him to yesterday and knocks on the door.
Male Tiefling Monk 1
"I have one," Bexilarius says. "What's the uniform for a golem dealer? I'd probably be the best one you can find, but I don't really fancy dressing up like a succubus," he adds with a grin. "I could moonlight as security, too."
"Oh, and more more thing - keys to our private room upstairs?"

"Some infernal wounds never heal, and I've had this one for years. Barbazu don't release their quarries easily. Anyways, it's a reminder of past foolishness."

"Don't get too cocky," Bex warns Mel. "That was a set-up, not the real thing. But I just wanted to see how you handled yourself. In that respect, you passed." He smiles and moves the rapier away from his neck. "I'm Bexilarius."
"I vote we keep him," Bex tells Saul.
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Bexilarius partakes of the food as well, heartily but neatly. He doesn't speak much, content to listen to the others for now. He watches Mordecai through narrowed eyes, but not obviously if he can help it. There's something odd about that one, he thinks. I wonder what happened to the wizard from last night?
When the boy comes in, Bex listens closely to him attempting to sell his skills. He stands up, and nonchalantly wanders over to Mel's side of the table.
"So tell me, boy, you're at the door, working as a greeter. How do you know who's good, and who's bad?"

His business concluded, Bexilarius turns to face Fortunata. "Usually I take the responsibility to punish myself for my transgressions," he muses, entranced by the sight of her fingers caressing her whip. "But today seems to be a day for exceptions. Lead on, lady, and suffice to say that my discipline of late has been appallingly lax. Perhaps I need a bit of pain, a little reminder, to purify and cleanse my body and soul."
Bex will take up Fotunata's offer, and spend the evening "repenting." Just tell me how much it is.
In the morning, Bexilarius leaves the House of Silken Veils after a fine breakfast, and makes his way back to his room in Rotgut. He spends time loosening a floorboard under his cot to create a hiding place for most of his money. He does his morning exercises and meditations, and washes, then heads back to the Gold Goblin. His muscles are sore, but the stretching helped, and the fresh welts on his back sting deliciously. It looks to be a fine day.

Bexilarius takes his leave, returning home to his lodgings to clean up after the evening's exertions. He briefly considers tracking down Sam, but he has no idea where she might have gone, and truth be told, vomiting at the sight of blood didn't make her more attractive. Counting his newly-won coins, Bex instead decides to head to the House of Silken Veils, his favorite haunt when he can afford it (which he now can!) Maybe look up that new girl, Lavender Lil. All the "succubi" at the Gold Goblin have reawakened his taste for some demon-lovin'...

"Tomorrow at noon, then," Bexilarius says, standing up. "And while I have my own accommodations, it's good to know there's a place to crash here if it's a late night."
He turns to the others in the new group. "Any of you happen to be of a wizardly bent, by any chance? I found these nice bracers on our bound friend over there, and wondered if they might be magical." He dangles a pair of silver bracers in the air.
I just realized - do we not have a wizard in the party?
Male Tiefling Monk 1
"Partners, eh? That's an interesting proposition. Usually I prefer the game, the risk, the gamble, but safe money has its place too. What the hells? I'm in, provided you can draw up a contract that's a bit more...believable...than the one I signed for the tournament." Bex smiles. "Think of it as a little insurance for both parties."
Bex looks around at the others at the table. "The name's Bexilarius."
Cashing out, Bex should have 57 cp, 7 sp, and 63 gp (but he'll take 40 of the cp in sp, if that's ok.

Male Tiefling Monk 1
Perception (1d20+2=5)
Bexilarius has 35 copper hearts, 5 silver teeth, and 42 golden eyes.
Bexilarius stops Gierixa taking half the coins. "Hold on there, darling. You don't take half the cash without everyone's say-so. I want my fair share, which I believe is 8 of those chips."
Bex throws a sickle and silver-handled rod on the table as well. "These were his," he says, pointing to the unconscious mage. "I don't have much use for them, but I could resell them, unless someone makes me a better offer. I imagine he could tell us what this is-" -Bex holds up the rod- "or perhaps one of you is magically inclined...?"
Bexilarius sips his wine and turns his attention to Saul. "I hope you've got something else on offer, Vancaskerkin. I brought you the culprit and reclaimed your chest for you. I could have taken it and poof! Disappeared." Bex emphasizes this with a snap of his fingers. "But I like to play fair. It's no fun to beat the house if you break the rules. What's yours is yours, but I want mine. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Male Tiefling Monk 1
Seeing as no one seems to care, Bexilarius takes the valuables from the mage. He also makes sure that Saul and Larur know he is only unconscious, not dead. Following that, he says, "An honor to join you upstairs, sir. A drink would be refreshing after the night's events."

DM dahn wrote: Bexilarius;Sorry, you said you'd drop the darkness if you dropped the mage. I know I did. Bex was just pissed he didn't think far enough ahead to keep the darkness up while he looted the body. :)
Bexilarius strips the valuables off the body and pockets the coin purse as unobtrusively and quickly as possible. Standing up, he takes a look around the room, just in time to see Sam lose her dinner and flee. Girl's got no stomach for violence, he thinks, half-smiling at his own pun.
Noticing Saul and Larur looking at him, Bex plants a foot on top of the wizard's unconscious body, and dangle the shrunken chest from his fingers.
"This what you're looking for, gentlemen?" he asks with a roguish grin.

Silently cursing himself for canceling the darkness so soon, Bexilarius drops to his knees and rifles through the wizard's pockets.

After trading in 10 teeth for a Dis badge, Bexilarius heads over to the Bounder table. He lays down one tooth and picks up the dice, murmuring a short prayer to Desna. "Let's see if the dice are my friends tonight, or if it's back to the cards," he says.

Regardless of the outcome of the current spin, Bex's next step will be change to 10 teeth into a badge for the next level.

Bex laughs at the head's insult and throws the dealer a wink. As he gathers up his winnings, he takes a quick glance around the room.

Bex places three more bets of 10 hearts each on the ghoulette wheel, saying the positions out loud as he looks pointedly at the dealer. "Your Presence, Your Face, and Your Body," he says. "I think those are going to be lucky for me on this spin."
Male Tiefling Monk 1
I have to make some gold before I can bet it! I only started with 4 sp...
"Congratulations," Bex tells Sam. "I'm starting off slow and easy, but Desna seems to be smiling on me so far. Once I get my badge, I'm going to try out some of the other tables." Bex watches her as she sashays away, then tries to refocus on his hand. This is the problem with these "indulgences" of yours... he tells himself.
