Appearance:
Before-
Tall and blocky, he's so plain looking that many people assume he's a simpleton until they hear him speak. He wears undyed buckskin clothing under a set of worn-looking scale mail. There are a conspicuous amount of axes on his person, with a five foot long bearded axe on his back, a smaller working axe in a loop on his belt, and three smaller throwing axes on the other side. Despite the heavy armament, something about the way he hold himself makes him seem drawn in and nonthreatening.

After-
You see a large monstrous figure before you. Standing well over six feet tall, the withered skeletal thing is clearly dead. It may have once been human, but the lack of flesh that makes it difficult to tell. The head is nothing but a tissue paper thin layer of sinew stretched over a skull. Its eyes burn with a cold, blue, fiery fury. Dressed in well crafted breastplate, it wears a faded purple tabard over top. The undead creature is armed with greatsword and longbow.

Background:
Bernd's mother died in childbirth, and he was raised by his woodsman father, Dirk, in their single room log cabin. A fiercely faithful man, Dirk believed in hard work and silence. From a young age he taught Bernd to keep his head down and his mouth shut. Dirk was strict, but a good teacher. Bernd learned to read using the family's Book of the Martyr and he spent his days in the woods with his father learning to dress logs, fight, and hunt. All of this learning was done in a great rush because Dirk knew his time was short on this world. He'd always been much older than Bernd's mother, and worried that he'd leave his son helpless. When Bernd was barely old enough to be called a man Dirk caught a terrible fever and died. Bernd buried him, and continued the family trade on his own. It's been several years since then. Bernd has spent most of that time alone in the forest resigned to his fate. His life is one of hard labor and loneliness, but he makes due. Bernd makes trips into Nalvallen when necessary to sell his wood in the market, and to buy the few supplies he can't make at home.

Personality:Bernd is a quiet and serious young man. He's polite and kind to everyone, but he prefers the solitude of the forest to the bustle of the town. He's pragmatic more than moral, and does the best he can to get by.
