Berggren Galt is a young Dwarven ranger who is a border scout for the clan holdings the in Calphiac Mountains . During his wanderings in duty he has spotted the blot above Riddleport. His first urge was to head straight for the city to investigate this phenomenon in person. Unbecoming his usual character, he did in fact first report his findings back to his clan. He then convinced his superiors that this should be investigated, since the local humans couldn't possibly be counted on acting on something as ominous. With the careful preparation that he usually takes on his scouting trips, he heads down to Riddleport to find out what is going on.
Clan Galt defends a small holding (Irem) in the Caphiac Mountains. Berggren is a scion of a minor mountain branche that carries the Galt name only to signify their membership of the clan. Only if many many other branches are extinct does the mountain branch become eligible for the clan leadership. Berggren got into trouble a lot as he was younger. His elders were constantly slapping him away from where he wasn't supposed to be snooping with curiosity. This actually only developed his curiosity more and it made him more nimble in avoiding the slaps. The clan elders knew they had to give Berggren something to do that would play to his strengths before he went bad. That's when he was trained for scouting under the tutelage of Skylar Galt. This old ranger was actually looking for a young dwarf to train and eventually take over his tasks. This impetuous youngster was however not exactly what he was hoping for. Over time and arguments Berggren finally started to understand what Skylar was teaching him and paid attention. He saw much of the surrounding lands in those years and even went to visit Riddleport a few times with Skylar when the old ranger needed some thing or another. That was when Berggren found that most of Riddleport's inhabitants were scoundrels to say the least. Nothing good could ever come from relying on that city, that was for sure!
Small, even for a Dwarf, Berggren makes sure to compensate his stature with rapid actions. Not one for thinking things through completely, his curiosity gets him into trouble many times.
