Despite the Channel having minimal impact on her, Believer's condition takes a rapid downturn as her monk opponent rains down blows and then her lifelinks bestow upon her the damage from her friends. She feels a nudge, suggesting she let the links go for now and focus on staying on her feet. But Maccha was off on her own, battling the gods only knew what, she would not forsake her now. But Llewella was holding her own and still within arms reach, so she decided to end that one.
Dropping Lifelink on Llewella but only after absorbing her 2 damage.

Teeth gritted against her wounds, she strikes at the monk again.

Believer takes another punch, whiffs at the Asmodean monk uselessly, then taps to relieve her own wounds.

Siphoning off the last of Llewela's damage, Believer grunts from a punch to the solar plexus. Unable to determine the spell threatening Aoede, she turns back to the business of thinning the enemy ranks.

Looking back, I think I missed one of these earlier since B was in the center of it all.

Believer brings up the rear, reinforcing Llewela to block access to her flank. Her friend's damage surges across the life link to the tiefling as if drawn by a lodestone. A bruise fades from the half-elf's jaw to appear in precisely the same spot on the paladin.

She swings her Falchion at the Asmodean in front of her.

Milani's favor seems proof against the ashen undead. She presses the attack to deal with the more lively threat she hears around the corner.

If the others finished off the zombie, she will move up beside Llewela and attack the Asmodean she can reach.

Believer splutters on the ash, mostly disgusted at getting what seems to be cremains in her mouth. She clangs discordantly in the bell-like tones of Celestial.

She tries to think of what might account for the differences, but comes up short.

She steps forward, swinging her Falchion again.

Falchion already in hand, Believer dashes forward slashing with her blade, trying to end the undead before it can rise.

Believer moves in beside Aoede, turning her evil detecting gaze on the corpse.

Believer decides to enact her plan. She locates or creates an opening large enough and takes out the silver raven and speaks the command word to awaken it.

"Find Rexus or Laria at the Long Roads cafe and give them this message away from other people who might overhear. "Have encountered swarms at the target location. Request splash weapons, caltrops and a source of ignition on southeast side." Then she bids the silvery creature to go, hoping the message would be clear enough to the intended recipients but confusing to anyone else.

To the others she says, "Maybe we should establish some sort of code to use within our little group of activists. Something to think about."

She double checks that her life links on Maccha and Llewela are active and nods her readiness to proceed, falchion in hand.
Moved to the indicated doors.

Once they get far enough away to see that the spider swarm is no longer following, Believer ponders their situation.

"How are those raven statuettes supposed to work again? Can we send Korva a shopping list?"

Can we find a window that we can open or break?

"Well, it's magical. That's all I've got."

Believer keeps up her usual schtick of detect magic as well as evil as she keeps pace with the group.

She frowns automatically at the name, but similarly plumbs her knowledge for information on the relic or who originally wielded it.

"Bee, are you alright? I can mend your wounds," she says in a soft voice.

Believer gives Tessa a reassuring smile. "I'm fine. My Lay on Hands is especially effective when used on myself. I just want to be sure there's real need before I do that. I don't like the feel of this place at all."

"There were no oozes on display here, so it was another security measure? Or just general abandonment?"

"That brings up another point. This isn't 20 years of decay... these tanks would be dry as dust if that were the case. You'd think any living exhibits would have been released or rehomed when the place closed. I can only guess that the Archivists maintained the creatures themselves until... more recently." Her eyes linger on the signs of neglect, glowing with anger at the thought of living things, trapped and starving when they might have been freed.

Believer swings again, badly.

Tessa identifies the skeletons as, well...skeletons. Specifically those of sasquatches, not whatever 'skunk apes' are.

Actually, "skunk ape" is a southern colloquialism for the same cryptid, like "big foot".

Believer steadies herself, planting her quarterstaff like a walking stick. "How likely is it that Archivists use undead to protect their hideout?" She asks her friends. Rexus, you've sent us into another viper's nest again... She thinks to herself, then feels guilty for the unkind thought given this means they are unlikely to find the nobleman's parents.

Aid Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7 Nope.

Believer takes a step, drawing her quarterstaff and takes a swing at the skunk-ape skeleton.

Believer scans their path ahead, detecting for magic and evil or even evil magic or magical evil. =P

She looks over the taxidermy for what sort of bear it once was.

"I don't suppose any of the windows were open or broken," Tessa asks the tengu sisters. She wishes she had more time to get to know them better, but between the tooth fairies, Blosodriette, and dealing with a daemon-tainted manor, she's hardly had time to catch her breath much less chat with Jay and her sisters.

Jay is the one who was killed. I had to look back through the thread to find the names myself.

"Llewela, can you charge this for me, please? I think it just requires prayer from a priest of Milani." Believer asks, handing over the Meditation Crystal shaped like a rose bud that Laria had acquired for her.

"Let's do what we can to disguise our new arms. Just being spotted with these will draw attention."

B can't fail to aid with disguise, but Maccha probably uses Sleight of Hand.

Believer descends to the Nest to check in with Korva, Maggie and Treep. "We were able to retrieve the weapon cache. Took it right from beneath the Dottari's noses. Though it might have been easier to face off with them than our alternate route turned out. There was some very nice arms in there, you have our gratitude. Here is the rest." She gives the remainder of the weapons to the tengu family.

"Do you know anything about the old Fantasmagorium?"

Since we dropped the mini-game, can we ask our Tengu friends to do recon?

Believer smiles at the hope she sees written on the young man's face. "That sounds like an excellent lead. If it has stood abandoned that long, Korva and her sisters might know something about it too. Lets ask them and let them know we recovered the weapons cache."

Believer prays for Milani's guidance as she tries to remember what she has heard about the place from people who patronized Father Blom's clinic.

Believer also looked concerned over the appearance of the lair, but shook herself visibly when Aoede assured them the former residents had been absent too long to be expected back soon. Still she makes an effort to gather things quickly so they can be off.

She pauses over a heavy sword of Qadiran design, liking the heft of it. She detects magic and her smile widens. She also sweeps the area to be sure they don't miss anything valuable.

Not much time today, but didn't want to delay us by not posting. Would like +1 Silversheen Falchion (2,825gp). If possible, a used wand of infernal healing and will have Laria acquire some Crystals of Meditation (100gp) since they need to be Milani specific and would be unlikely items to find here. If used wands are permitted, maybe one of expeditious retreat as well.

Standing within arms reach, Believer steps forward to catch Tessa by her elbows and lowers her gently to the floor while she recovers. At least everyone was clothed this time... She thinks with no small relief. She looks to the rest of the party with a slight smile and gives a cheeky wink.

"Well, that was the cherry on top of the $#!+ sundae that was today. Please tell me we found our way through so we can head back to the nest soon."

"Oh," Alekto says as her expression turns into a leer. "I see how it is. You truly aren't that far off from a kyton, leaving me in such exquisite pain." She slides up to Believer much like the first time she appeared. Her eyes narrow and her voice turns dark and sultry. "Perhaps you should just give into your passions. Imagine me at your mercy, screaming in pleasure and pain as I lie on your bed." She stands on the tips of her toes to reach the oracle's ear and whispers.

"Doesn't it just make you burn with need to picture it, to make me pay for all that I've done."

Believer's jaw clenches and her eyes flash at the taunt. Alekto has played this card before though and she steels herself against overreaction. Still, she exhales a hiss of held breath through her sharp bared teeth and swallows reflexively as she tries to put the mental image out of her mind.

Believer's expression becomes pensive as a whisper of memory comes to her, as if from the goddess herself, So must I protect against possession and oppression. She'd been thinking of Tessa and her unwelcome passenger when she'd penned that tenant for herself. But now it occurs to her that without a body of her own, the erinys was as much prisoner as possessor and given that the Fury could only come forward when Tessa was overcome by circumstances, she was more the former than the later.

"A seed sprouted from darkness that strives ever toward the light. You have marked me true. But you are not the only one privy to the mysteries of The Planes. I know from what bright seed does your kind sprout. Were you staked out to be eaten away, bit by bit by the hellish winds and devils of Dis? How many years did you hold against the torment? A century, more? All the while feeling your bright purpose burn away and twist to char and ash. It is not for me to deliver a reckoning unto you. You paid in advance." This last is said with a slight note of sympathy.

Her own inner voice, or the voice of Milani, or some combination of the two spoke up again. So must I be kind and soothe the suffering of others. There was no qualifier attached to that and the creature before her was suffering. Perhaps had suffered more than any mortal could ever bear while they yet lived. Without another word she extended the life link to heal Tessa's body fully. She held Alekto's gaze with her own as her life force passed along the link, as she took the damage onto herself.

Current HP+CLW: 23 + 10 - 12 = 21
3 rounds to get Tessa back to full.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
"Oh, well spotted. I didn't see that at all." Believer establishes her life link with Maccha to get her back to better fighting shape.
1 round for +5 hp back for Maccha.

She is just about to extend the link to Tessa when Alekto rears her raven-haired head. "Aoede is a stiff breeze from dissipating back to her home realm. You curb your forked tongue! I will happily heal Tessa, you not so much." She says, burgundy gaze glowing as she glowers at the erinys.
Pointedly, she extends the life link to Aoede instead.
2 rounds for +10 hp back for Aoede.

Then she casts her final remaining spell on herself to offset some of the damage.

"I think we'd better take these now and have a breather before we head onward. Llewela, did you have any healing left, hopefully at least for yourself?" She pops one of the magical stimulant pills and offers them to Llewela. And to Tessa, once she regains her usual self.

She prays for Milani's guidance as they settle for a respite and considers the root of this particular evil. "That skeleton seemed to have the abilities of an evil cleric. And a pretty powerful one at that. Do you suppose these people just fell afoul of a cleric of Slandrais and he summoned an Erodaemon to destroy them all? Though it seems the cleric must have died too." She asks, trying to understand the implications and still feeling like she is coming up short.

With some regret as the negative damage rolls out, Believer releases her life link on Maccha and Llewela. Immediate action to end the life links.

She steps closer and cracks the skeleton with her quarterstaff.

Believer moves in, drawing her quarterstaff. Maccha's last 3 hp heals, bringing her back to full as the tiefling absorbs her friend's damage. Then she taps her chest to use her last Lay on Hands to get her ready to move into the fight.

With Maccha's life link still active, she heals partially as it transfers to Believer. She moves into the room and casts Bless.

Tried to leave the way clear in case Aoede can charge. Maccha heals 5 hp and B takes 5 damage.

Maccha, I accounted for getting you and (a lvl 2) Llewela back to full hp. Life link heals you 5hp per round as long as you are below full hp.

Believer frowned, considering. "I don't trust this place enough to be able to rest here. The main trouble is that our magical resources are about tapped out. We can't endure another haunt like that."

She holds the bottle of pills up to the light. "I'm willing to try these, how about you two?" She asks her fellow casters.

I'm down to 1 LoH, holding in reserve for emergency. I haven't been casting my spells as much, but will have two level 1's left after this casting. I'll wait till I've exhausted the last to pop some magical No Doze. XD

She tops herself off as they make ready to explore further.

Believer gives Maccha a tight smile, shuddering slightly at the strain, savoring the suffering as the life link sustained her companions. She laid hands on herself to offset the damage as they recovered.

Believer's bond as the chosen of Milani protects her from the more sinister effects of this malevolent spirit's echo. With her friends in retreat, she decides her service would be better applied in checking up on them. She backs out of the room looking to where her friends have gone.

Tessa seems fine at the moment, so she ends her life link with the summoner and bonds it to Llewela who seems to be struggling. She draws breath through her teeth as the link pulls at her life force to sustain her two friends. "Don't fret, I can keep them alive until they shake this off." She assures the worry-prone Tessa.
Maccha and Llewela heal 5 hp and Believer takes 10 hp in damage.

Believer draws her quarterstaff and takes a swing at the apparition, unfortunately she only manages to chip the tile.

Believer moves into the room with her Detect Evil active to try and smite the source of the commotion. Hand extended, she tries to Lay on Hands vs the woman and/or the bloody tub.

Believer shakes her head, indicating that she is struggling to make sense of it all too.

"These capitalizations of the Guest imply it is Mephistopheles, or something posing as the Arch-devil. And descriptions here match what we saw in the engraving... But how would it come to be engraved if everyone was killed? Has it happened more than once? He writes, 'This was supposed to save our family.' Did the arch-devil twist the bargain into a sacrifice? Drive the family mad until the turned on each other? I've no respect for devils, but doesn't this seem off somehow? What could be gained by manipulating your servants to murder each other? Devils thrive off entrapment, not sowing chaos..."

Believer mirrors Llewela, grabbing onto Tessa and holding her back from sitting at the table as well.

"Agreed, but let's take what precautions we can." Believer lays a hand on each of their shoulders, establishing a Life Link on the both of them. "There, that should allow me to mitigate any damage you take, from each other or anything else."

I think Llewela can cast resistance too.

Believer helps to calm Maccha after her scare and upon hearing her description, shakes her head in apparent... disbelief. "Milani's Thorns! What is it with these noble families? Are they all so... murderous?" She found her self oddly grateful she had been abandoned as a babe.

She scrutinized the skeleton, looking for signs of magic, evil or that it might be undead.

Believer keeps up her ability to detect evil as she scans the way ahead and then moves into the room heading toward the southwest doors.

Believer grimaces in distaste at the blasphemous taunt. "This is more than a haunting, something else is at play." She continues to scan for auras of evil or magic as they continue on, moving to Maccha's side as she checks the next door.

Believer pats Tessa on the shoulder. "We'll act with caution, but we can't let fear suppress us into inaction. That's like locking yourself into a prison of your own making. You might feel safe, but you are still not free."

She establishes a Life Link between Llewela, Maccha and herself, just to be safe as she follows along, detecting for magic and evil.

"Just be sure not to eat any stew..." Believer mutters as she detects for first magic and then evil, her glowing burgundy eyes roving over the kitchen, making sure to focus on the burning oven.

Believer winces as she watches her friend take the blow from the slamming door, then listens as Llewela's voice rises in panic. She wasn't sure what was going on in the other room, but she didn't want to see Maccha face it as hurt as she currently was. She chants the prayer of holy healing and gently lays her hand on Maccha.

Then she steps to the lever she noticed earlier and warns her friend before she pulls it.
Hopefully a move action is enough to throw it, couldn't leave M at 4hp...

Believers eyes widen as she notices the imminent danger and her voice rings out in Celestial as she hurls herself forward. "Move!" she cries, hoping to shake Maccha out of her shock before she can be hurt.

Believer thinks back to what she heard about the family who lived here as she moves up beside Maccha. "Word was that they were rebellious against Thrune themselves. Though not because they were opposed to the evils of diabolism... More likely they were dabbling with things even the Thrice-Damned House would frown on." She said, grimacing at the mere idea.

She casts detect magic and looks for signs of Evil lying in wait here as well.

Taking a moment to refresh guidance on Maccha, Believer draws her longspear and quietly steps into the hall, scanning the way ahead with detect magic as well as detect evil.

Believer was shocked by the events as well and asked the pair to describe what they experienced. "Sounds like something terrible transpired here." Her burgundy eyes glow with reddish light as she activates her goddess-granted ability to detect evil.

She takes the time to invoke Milani's guidance as they pause for healing and discussion. "Llewella, can you offer up prayers for increased resistance to the influence of such spirits?"

I know spamming cantrips on everyone can be annoying, but every little bit helps.

She moves to the southern door and listens motioning to Aoede to do the same at the northern.

It will be, but was definitely serious. His gallbladder was dead and gangrenous. When I got mine removed it was an outpatient procedure, but he was in bad shape and has been in the hospital for 5 days. Word is he's being discharged today so fingers crossed!
