Hi everyone! Just wanted to let y'all know that here in Syracuse NY I'll be hosting Pathfinder 2e Society sessions alternating Saturdays starting on April 1. There is a $5 cover (we are a very small store and need to cover things). Events listed on the Society Events list! Hope to see y'all!

So, an update to my previous post:

Don't Peek:

So, as mentioned before, my players attempted to frame the dwarf engineers for murder. At first it was just the shop owners. Now the rogue is going around murdering people disguised as a short dwarf.

In doing so, he was discovered and a trap was laid. The town watch (modeled after the Ankh Morpork city watch from the Discworld novels, a usual model for me# lay in wait while the rogue attempted to slit the throat of a statue. Instead of being captured, he ran. I used the chase mechanics from the GMG and it was on!

Through alleys, over spilled carts and past the grasp of a drunk man trying to hug him, the rogue narrowly escaped being collared by the fuzz. All this while maintaining his disguise. So soon, the dwarf engineers were driven from town. Not the usual solution to be sure, but it was fun so we ran with it.

They also infiltrated the keep to try to kill the wizard in his sleep #Their biggest fear is this wizard. Little do they know.) They killed him, but not before he sounded the alarm. The keep will now be on high alert, and they have a long way to go, but if they lay low for a while I think they can get it done.

All in all, I am completely in love with this path. My players are only at the last act of the first book but it's some of the best fun I've had running a pre-written adventure since RotRL.

I've been running a group through this for the past two months or so, and I am loving this path.

I have four PCs:
A Cleric
An AntiPaladin (changed as suggested to LE from CE)
A Monk of the Four Winds
A Halfling Rogue/Alechemist

They just reached Aldencross, but this wont really be anything spoilery. I just love it.

Sort of Spoiler:

They learned of some "heirloom" type magic items mounted in a curio shop (I had a bit of a good run on figuring out what type of magic items would be present in town and the PCs had a "cover story" that ended up with them going to exactly the place I had them). They mulled over a way to get the lot, and couldn't think of anything that wouldn't turn suspicion on the new kids.

The rogue, in his "wisdom", decided to try to poison one of the shop owners in his sleep to convince the other owner to sell the shop. They didn't really have the capital for the sale, but they weren't thinking that far ahead. The rogue sneaks in at night, and successfully poisons the mark with arsenic. He survives, but remains asleep. In attempting to administer another dose, he botches and dribbles the poison on the guy's face. The mark wakes up and the rogue gets a quick stab in to almost silence him. Then the brother wakes to investigate. He gets the kidney shuffle as well as his wife. Three corpses in the apartments above the shop.

The halfling thinks quick. What to do? He knows dwarven, so he carves "Dwarves did this!" in dwarven on the wall. Subtle. After joining his friends and them mocking his solutions, he returns to the scene and plants a "shopping list" that the "dwarf" dropped in his haste to escape and cover his robbery/murder.

They then start using their circlets to spread rumors around town that the dwarves in town have brought thieves with them to stalk the town and strip it of its shinies. Most people don't buy it, but it's starting to take a bit of hold.

To third the opinions here, my group meets once a week over Oovoo (an ad driven Skype variant) and Maptools. The nice thing about that, is that all of the software is either free with ads or open source.

Maptoools has the benefit of the ability to build "macros", which allow the more technical of our group to help make "frequent use" buttons that can greatly speed up gameplay. We lean heavily on macros because we've found that there are more delays in gameplay with everyone in a different state and having unique distractions.

There are things that are difficult, the need for more pre-planning. Randomly making a map is a bit more difficult in Maptools. Oovoo and Skype both have varying levels of server load and on our game nights (Friday) there are interruptions in service. I have a dedicated computer that runs a private Maptools server, and with some smartphone software I can turn it on and off as needed by whichever of us is GM at a given time.

I absolutely love having the technology to still play with my friends after they've moved, and I highly recommend working through the kinks that will inevitably come up to get something running. It's worth the initial testing frustration to still have that time to play with your group no matter where they are.
