Bayushi Kado is one competent student to graduate from the Bayushi Bushi School recently. He skillfully serves the Scorpion Clan as a bushi, yojimbo or personal assistant. Kado is an exceptional Scorpion Clan bushi, the quiet bodyguard, swift sword and has courtly capabilities.
Kado was born the second son of two loyal but unremarkable Bayushi samurai. He was an outgoing, vivacious child. Things came easily to him, and he absorbed knowledge quicker than all his peers. With this ease he enjoyed all parts of his life. During a festival at Kyuden Bayushi shortly after his gempukku, Kado became embroiled in an unpleasant conflict with a young Lion shugenja. The shugenja's traditional mannerisms and reverence for magic were laughable to Kado, who had spent little time around shugenja during his young life. The argument came to a head when Kado publicly berated the Kitsu, claiming that Lion shugenja like him were revered only because fools could not comprehend their magic. In the moments after his boasting, Kado suddenly realized he had offended more people than he should have. When a friend arrived and whispered to Kado that his opponent was the son of the Lion ambassador, he realized the true enormity of his folly.
The Lion ambassador demanded some sort of restitution from Kado's family. The Lion exerted considerable pressure, and it seemed that no Scorpion were willing to come to the arrogant young man’s aid, until an old Scorpion courtier smiled to Kado's parents and told them that he would fix the situation. As the son of the Lion came up with an idea to humiliate Kado by challenging him to a duel. Kado immediately accepted to settle things, as he was prepared the old courtier gave him advice, that to win this fight he would have to lose. Kado could not understand why was he supposed to lose to win, he would be looked as inferior and wrong. The courtier asked Kado to lose calling in his debt for arranging things with the Lion ambassador and Kado's anger flared for a moment but he accepted in the end, when the time came to fight he showed his skill but still lost in the end to the Lion.
Kado swore to himself that he would never be so foolish again. He dropped his cheerfulness and has become cold. He vowed he would never be manipulated again through his feelings and respond with courtesy to provocation.
