Backstory:
Growing up in the besieged town of Truneau, Barzek was constantly under stress. His talents as a boy grew in exploring the area around him, and guiding farmers and soldier patrols through the nearby mountains. One day, when he was exploring a nearby cave, a startled bat flew down from the dark ceiling and swooped into his face. In his panic, a greenish orb burst from his fingers and burned through the bat's wing. As the skin sizzled, Barzek ran from the cave.
Later that day, he experimented at the rocks near the Hopespring, summoning up that same fear and creating at burst of green acid. Over time he found that he didn't need to be afraid of anything in particular when he used his magic, he just had to be afraid of something. That fear couldn't be of something minor or inconsequential to him, it had to be potent.
But over time, Barzek gained the power to summon more than just acid. When he came of age, he began to assist in patrolling the town's perimeters, using his newly developed arcane ability to protect the town.
