There was once a young man who grew up among the wilderness that his people called the Crystal Plains. All he knew of weapons were those used to hunt and provide for his kin. All he knew of war was one fierce but short lived battle with a competing clan. It was a fine life, but the young man felt as thought he was meant for more.
One day several men appeared from the cities, having heard of the hearty men that lived in the plains. With promises of wealth and glory in the civilized lands they lured many of the clans' young men away. They gave the men new names for their new lives and taught them the ways of civilization and its warfare. That wild, young man who hunted in the plains was born anew as Bartholomew Grey. His fierceness and srength made him a fine soldier and he often found himself deep in action.
A series of lingering injuries, however, ended his career as a soldier and he was given an honorable discharge. Once his wounds healed he tried to go back to the plains, but his former people looked at him as if he were a stranger. He also had to admit to himself that it no longer felt like home.
He ended up finding work as a guard in the small town of Lupri, which rarely had the need for swords. As the years passed and his skills dulled Bart looked back on his younger years with regret. He yearned for the chance to test his sword arm again.
When word spread that the Warders were looking for new recruits, Bart jumped at the chance. Better to die trying something new than to eventually waste away as a lowly town guard. So now he journeys to make up for his wasted youth and take back the glory he feels is owed him after years of idleness.
