Backstory:
House Laigin has seen better days. One of the founding houses of Cauldron, the family made their wealth after proving the viability of coffee plantations and cultivating some of the best lands in the surrounding region. For years, the family flourished on these early investments of their time and might, but more recent generations take the risks required to establish new plantations and have missed out on productive lands and new coffee varieties.
Barek is the third son of the current head of the House. Pledged from birth to the Church of St. Cuthbert, Barek has been dodging family commitments for the last three years, choosing to spend his time in coffee houses and taverns instead of the stuffy church. Finally thrown out of the church for hitting on one of the female priests, Barek has found ties with his family cut off as well. He’s currently scheming to find a way back into his family’s good graces that doesn’t involve becoming a priest.
Appearance:
Barek is short and somewhat stocky, but dashingly handsome. He wears his dark brown hair stylishly long with a perpetual day’s worth of stubble on his cheeks. His icy blue eyes finish a look infamous among the ladies of Cauldron. The noble scandalously wears a tight-fitting suit of leather armor when performing, but in public usually covers it with loose-fitting clothes or forgoes armor altogether.
Personality:
Barek is the consummate, overconfident ladies’ man though he seems cursed to always have something go awry on the hunt. He loves a good challenge, especially in the social sphere and takes great pleasure in his surprising skill at arms.
Crunch Objectives:
Out of combat, Barek will provide a broad range of skills, with aptitude in both social and knowledge skills. In combat, Barek will play an archer bard, preferring to stay out of hand to hand combat to buff party members, distract foes, or pick them off with arrows from a safe distance.
Relations with Other Characters at Start:
Crispin Turanor Barek has found Crispin to be a capable drinking bud, especially after a few drinks. Somehow Barek has no idea of his dark past having missed that part in every outing.
Hagin Barek and Hagin were rivals in their youth, but now that Hagin seems to have found his calling, Barek is quietly jealous of the man he used to see as an enemy. He finds it ironic that Hagin has found the priesthood so fulfilling without being forced to it.
Jennis Silgerk Doesn't know the elf well. Likes his sense of humor and can appreciate the pressure both have felt from their families.
Trane Loften Barek remembers Trane from training at the Church of St. Cuthbert. He remembers recognizing that neither were suited for priestly training, but that the other man was not quite as fond of jokes on the priesthood as he.
Yvette Gallowfall Barek has met Yvette on several occasions and once even tried to get her to go home with him. He thinks he managed to convince her that it was because of a dare from a few of his drunken friends. He hopes the uncomfortable moment is behind them.
Living Arrangements at Start:
Ejected from the family mansion, Barek has managed to convince his middle brother to let him stay at his manor house for a time. But, with late nights, he seems to be wearing out his welcome with his brother's wife and the issue may soon be forced.
