Barakkas
male human spiritualist (fractured mind) 2 CG
hgt: 5’6 wgt: 150 lbs
eyes: brown
hair: dark brown
age: 26
Appearance:
A bit shabby, with rings under his eyes, Barakkas is a wreck of the man he used to be. Gaunt where once he was strong and fit, his dark eyes burn with horrible knowledge he doesn't want. Though he has the bearing of a military man, he bears no insignia.
Background:
Barakkas was a fairly simple man, with a simple worldview: Do what you can, when you can, before you hit the Boneyard. A mercenary grunt since he was a boy running errands, Barakkas did what he was told, when he was told - and filled in the blanks for what he wasn't told, which was quite a lot. Dangerous work, but better than farming in the dirt from sunup to sundown, in his opinion.
That all changed when his company took a contract under a wizard. That fellow was into some weird summoning rituals, but he paid in cold hard gold, so... so what if he was a few bricks short of a tower? Besides, Barakkas dabbled a little in magic. He and his similarly-gifted mates would know if something was going wrong.
That attitude nearly proved fatal for Barakkas. In a summoning gone very, very wrong, the Hell-creature the wizard had summoned got loose. Barakkas had only a confused and blurry recall of what happened. Obviously, they tried to protect the then-still-living wizard... but it cost them. While his comrades were losing their lives - some of them against each other - Barakkas was jumped, and lost all thought of fighting in his overpowering desire for the succubus the wizard had summoned. His distraction let the last few thinking men and women in his company kill the creature (or at least, banish it), but his life was forever changed.
Drained of much of his fighting stamina, still shaky and confused, he was kicked out of his company for dereliction of duty. But worse than that, he found over the next few months, he was haunted by the dark desires the succubus had woken in him. He saw her everywhere, in every woman he met, and in a final act of desperation, he sought help at Lepidstadt University, taking classes and inquiring as discreetly as he could about people with knowledge of the occult, whom he reasoned might be able to help him. The name Professor Lorrimor came up in several contexts, and it was enough to spur Barakkas to seek him out... only to find the Professor was dead.
*NOTE: This archetype would require the DM to come up with Emotional Powers for the Lust phantom; otherwise, I can drop the archetype and go with a plain spiritualist.
