Background:
Banny doesn't remember her birth parents; the first thing she recalls of childhood is being on Archenbridge's streets, rummaging through gutters to find food, and being part of a gang of other impoverished miscreants under the command of a teenaged leader. No doubt her life would have gone down a dark and grimy path, with petty theft and scuffles escalating to greater crimes, if not for a chance encounter, at age seven, with an officer of the Ride.

The shining armor, gleaming sword, and full saddlebags tempted the hungry street brat. She tailed the rider around the city for a bit, then, when the moment seemed ripe, tried to lighten the saddlebags of some presumed wealth. Instead she wound up with a firm hand on her wrist and a pair of piercing eyes gazing sternly down at her.

The officer could have handled the situation in many different ways, but chose the rather drastic method of taking the grimy child into their own care (and by extension the care of a rough-and-tumble selection of the rest of their unit). Banny's life took an abrupt turn for the better, though at first she didn't consider it such -- getting up at six in the morning and being given a long list of chores to do was quite the change! And all the lectures, and having to pray to Tyr several times a day! However, there was something to be said for regular meals and for having adults who actually seemed to give a damn about her.

Her childhood skills of theft and punching other children were slowly reformed. Stealing was wrong, and punching was-- well, sometimes correct, but only if you punched people who were hurting other people.

After initial complaints, Banny took to the structure of her new life rather well. The soldiers of the squad became a boisterous set of unofficial uncles and aunts to her, and the officer himself a surrogate father.

As Banny grew- tall and strong-- she was trained in martial traditions, though she showed a greater aptitude for fisticuffs than for swords. A veteran of the squad who had a reputation as a bareknuckle fighter taught her some actual techniques, and Banny learned how to fight unarmed and unarmored. By fifteen, she was serving in the militia, and by seventeen, she learned she could make extra coin as a guard for merchant convoys-- a guard who could pass as being just another passenger or drover, due to her lack of obvious weapons and armor.

Her goal is to ultimately join Archendale's army as an officer, but she feels she must prove herself first.... maybe with a spot of adventuring.
