Bahta approached Uori and respectfully asked for the cloak.
He made a few rolls of the cloak and tied one clean knot. The result appeared to be a circle.
"I have little experience with sewing and cutting, but I have seen and made many shrines and tokens from the bounty of the woods."
With that Bahta draped the cloak around his shoulder and pulled out 6 arrows.
As he approached the pool he began to carefully break the arrows and place them around the heart of the city in what appeared to be strategic locations. As he worked he chanted in Polyglot words that clearly had a deep religious significance. Beke would periodically enter the chant with various noises - they worked in well versed unison - a clear indication of the union of man with nature.
Once the 'pillars' were in place Bahta began to weave the cloak around them. It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't enough cloth to surround the entire city, but the end result was a bound cloak in the shape of an eye - the symbol of Aroden - with the model of the Starstone Cathedral at the center.
"We are never alone. When we are bound together in unison around a central cause we are a mighty force capable of great deeds."

Bahta let loose an arrow as the kobolds started to turn towards them.

Before the first arrow struck it's mark Bahta had leapt forward and notched a second one.

Right after the second arrow crossed the water Beke leapt easily across and made it in range of the same kobold.

Bahta quietly peers into the larger room.
"I could easily fire the first arrow from this opening, but sneaking into close range would probably be futile."
Bahta strings an arrow into his longbow and clicks softly for Beke to ready herself.
"I will await the call from one of our more front line companions."

Bahta and Beke both took swipes at the last standing undead.

"I would recognize that sound anywhere. These zombies and their rot are resistant to most weapons. We should use slashing weapons to tear into them."
With that Bahta readied an arrow for when one of them lumbered into view.

Bahta was deeply troubled that this fellow pilgrim feared his ability to safely complete his holy rituals.
"Dear, friend. We are not simply seekers of knowledge, but associates of the Pathfinder Society. I do not know what monsters you fear, but if one of them was a great minotaur he has been slain. It would be our honor to escort you throughout these tunnels and to witness your holy tasks."
Bahta spoke clearly and loudly and afterwards held out his left hand in a gesture that originated from his homeland and was meant to impart solidarity - though doubtful anyone present understood it.

Bahta balked for a moment at Liluth's comment, but then tried to stifle his laughter. "Hah, people out here have such curious jokes!"
As Bahta snickered Beke quietly stepped in front of Daeric and clicked her tongue while eyeing the Gillman.
"Good point, Beke. Daeric, please do not jump into his pool. It may hold some religious significance to him and we don't to have to 'eat' our new friend! Because it would be bad! Right?" Bahta looked at Liluth hoping he got the joke correct.
"Why don't we approach him as three? He may be upset if we all walk right up. Might I suggest Orla, Everon and myself - with you staying with Daeric, Beke. Just in case...?"
Bahta motioned for Everon and Orla to join him in introducing themselves to the Gillman.
Greetings, friend and great gilled one who watches the pool!" Bahta spoke clearly, directly and with a deep and respectful bow towards the Gillman.
"Did you perchance lose your cloak that my companion recovered upon entering this holy place?" Bahta motioned toward the cloth in Orla's arm. "I am Bahta, orphaned of the Mwangi Expanse, and pilgrim of Gozreh. I wish to learn of Aroden and this holy place. These are my companions and reverent historians: Orla and Everon."

Bahta had little difficulty following the group up from the pit. Once he was up he clicked his tongue twice. In a matters of moments Beke, who was resolutely guarding the rear of the group, silently leapt across the pit to Bahta's side. Bahta placed his hand on Beke's neck once she rejoined him.

Bahta studied the petroglyphs and joined in with the historians of the group.
"He was the immortal Azlanti that initially raised the Starstone from the bottom of the Inner Sea and founded Absalom. So it is no surprise that there would be carvings of his works on the Kortos Isles."
History in general wasn't really a specialty of his, but religious history certainly was. The prospect of learning more about the gods outside of the Mwangi Expanse was quite exciting.
"Oh, Gozreh. How fascinating." Muttered Bahta to Beke.
Bahta eventually followed Everon's gaze and noticed the gillman.
"Perhaps he will instruct us in the religious icons here and explain their purpose? He also may know the owner of this 'cloak?' I could approach him as a fellow pilgrim."

I'm sorry for my extended absence. My wife and I just had baby #2 and I've been 'on call' helping her. Things are going well and I'll try to get back to daily posting.
"Interesting cloak. It seems strange that it is just laying here."
Bahta eyes the bundle somewhat skeptically.
"Hmm..."Bahta takes in his surroundings as best as he can."Well, are we scaling the other side or wandering for another option?"

Bahta pulled away from the group to keep clean shots open and had Beke split off in the other direction. The minotaur was too far for Beke to immediately flank it so she split off and waited for a better opportunity.

"Separating our company is not wise." Said Bahta as he strung an arrow that was definitely not blunt.
Beke, you know what to do. Keep out of sight at first, stay on it's flank, focus on it's dominant limbs.

"Hmm, do you think more highly of our new companions now, Beke. Those snakes would have surely surrounded us without them. My aim hasn't been so off since that unruly allosaurus we had to dodge years ago." Bahta said quietly as he put his hand on Beke's neck.
Beke made a strange guttural clicking noise as she nuzzled Bahta.
"Haha, you are stubborn aren't you?! Yes, I'm sure we could have outrun them if we needed too."

"Beke and I have some experience navigating dense and dangerous forests, Janira. We would be happy to assist. I'm unfamiliar with the distance we still have to traverse, but in less than 2 days a substantial storm will blow through here. It would be unwise to tarry." Bahta said as he took a deep bow towards the group.
Beke clicked excitedly and flashed what Bahta knew was a cheeky smile, but to the uninitiated those teeth were probably somewhat unsettling.

Bahta keep steadily moving to the left to keep distance between himself, the others, and the snakes. He strung a second blunt arrow while ordering Beke to stay on their flank:

Bahta eyed the suspicious tree well before the collapse. Quickly stepping to the left and drawing a blunt arrow to better impact the swarm he took aim while simultaneously ordering Beke to separate and prepare to flank the swarm.

Spread out from one another. Snake swarms prey on tightly packed groups more effectively. They are also very resilient to piercing and slashing. Bahta barks clearly and pointedly and his arrow flies toward the swarm.

Bahta and Beke followed the group outside. For a pair use to traveling on their own, in the deep jungle, without much verbal communication, this was a somewhat 'interesting' partnership.
Nevertheless, the call of the Pathfinder Society loomed large and they knew it was for them.
"I must apologize," Bahta said with a deep bow towards the group members that were not occupied, "Beke and I have little to offer by way of gold. After transport here and replenishing my quiver we are back to depending on Gozreh - as we are use too. However, I will joyfully assist in carrying anything you procure until such as time as you require it again."
Bahta ended his bow with a flourish of his right hand to indicate respect.
Beke watched the unusual interactions between the other companions, clicked her tongue once to alert Bahta, and then blinked twice rapidly.
"Manners, Beke. Gozreh has brought us together for a reason." Bahta said with a laugh as he placed his left hand on Beke's neck.

My name is Bahta, says a tall dark skinned and lightly tattooed man in a thick accent that clearly indicates his origin from the Mwangi expanse.
My companion on the great hunt is Beke, though she prefers to watch rather than speak most of the time. As Bahta introduces his companion he waves in hand in the direction of a female velociraptor that might as well have been made of stone for as motionless and quiet as she was. At Bahta's introduction she clicked her tongue twice and blinked once as an acknowledgement of comradery to the group. Her greenish/grey hide was sparsely covered with what looked like religious symbols in a paint that complemented her hide.
Both my family and Beke's were killed when we were young. But Gozreh chose to preserve us and bind us together many years ago. Bahta readjusted in his chair and folded his hands indicating he did not much want to expand on the story. We heard stories of the Pathfinder Society and their noble exploits from traveling merchants and Gozreh showed us the way north. Beke and I are grateful for such an opportunity. As he finished the sentence, Bahta bowed his head to Janira as a sign of respect.
After regaining eye contact Bahta smiled sincerely. They were traveling light, but he had a sturdy bow with him as well as a small pack. They were clearly a pair used to living off of the land. Unfortunately, I must confess deep caves and Gillmen are new to us. But where there is wind and water Gozreh will guide us.
