Personality
Aurexil tries to hold herself to the ideals of a gold dragon--wisdom, patience, kindness, and a determination to defend the weak. She'll be the first to admit, however, that she is sometimes irritable and rash, but she's trying, and hopes to inspire others to try, too. She's also very curious about the world, and loves learning of new places and peoples.
Background
Aurexil hatched in a secluded clan in the mountains of Garund. From a young age, her swiftness and strength were noted, and so she trained as a warrior and hunter, to protect her beleaguered clan from its enemies and hunt for its sustenance. Her clan celebrated as she reached adulthood, certain that she would be a great strength to the clan.
She would likely have fulfilled this destiny had it not been for a chance encounter not long after her coming of age. While out hunting alone, she spied someone else flying in the distance. Curious, but wary, she approached closer, and soon could make out the silhouette of a dragon. She had heard tales of dragons, and the dangers they could pose, and so she dove for the ground... but too late, for the dragon followed her.
Fortunately for her, it was a young gold dragon, who had spotted a fellow flier and wished to ask about the surrounding area. Once over her initial wariness, Aurexil's curiosity returned ten-fold, and soon the two were conversing on a variety of subjects, the wyvaran hungry for knowledge of things beyond the boundaries of her tribal lands, and the young dragon, a female named Firalth, curious about the existence of wyvarans.
In the end, they conversed for days, pausing only to hunt for food and water. Aurexil drank in Firalth's words, learning of Apsu, of the duty of draconic beings to shelter those weaker than them from the mighty evils in the universe, of the lore of dragons, and so much more. When at last the dragon departed, Aurexil regretfully turned back to her clan.
The clan's elders were rather displeased when Aurexil reported where she'd been, and even less happy when she started suggesting things they should change. Displeasure quickly turned into argument, and over the course of about a week, the arguments blossomed into full-blown exile, though it was a little unclear whether the elders had exiled her first or she had declared her intent to leave forever first.
This was perfectly fine with Aurexil, whose head was now filled with ideas of the wider world and the good she could do in it. She found, however, that a wyvaran's appearance won few friends among humanoids, and she soon had reason to be glad for her swiftness when she had to flee from several towns and villages.
Tired and hungry after days of travel, she was desperate enough to try one more town before hunting for some solitary shelter for sleep. At first, it seemed the reaction here would be similar to the last few places she'd shown up, but then a greying, but fit, man stepped forward and took her side. It was clear he was respected, for the other villagers quickly quieted as he spoke, and soon enough Aurexil was given some food and a place to sleep for the night.
The next day she sought out her benefactor, and was surprised to be directed to a forge, where she found him working on a plough. After some conversation she learned he had been a paladin of Iomedae (and after some more conversation she figured out what that meant), but had set aside the sword for the smith's hammer. Curious about what would make a warrior set aside his weapons, Aurexil asked if she might try, and got amused acceptance from the retired paladin.
When she found out how difficult the work was, it was only sheer stubbornness that she kept trying, becoming the smith's apprentice. If he had any complaints about her preference to work on weapons, he didn't voice them, and after a couple of years she had learned enough to be competent. Growing tired of being sedentary, and feeling she had learned all she could, she departed, taking with her the best piece she had made, a fine glaive.
Appearance
Aurexil favors the wyvern side of her race, with deep blue scales, strong, lithe limbs, and a long, strong tail. On the ground, she moves with the grace of a jungle cat, but is rather heavy and slow in the air.
