Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

@Omrax - Except for short PbPs, player attrition is almost guaranteed. Even then, we lost a player during FS I as well, and that's not a long game at all.

I was playing in a Feast of Ravenmoor game this summer. The GM's posts became less frequent, then he finally just vanished. No explanations and ignored my PMs. The game finally went inactive.

He's still actively playing and GMing on the boards here. He simply dropped us. Obviously, that was uncool. So, even GMs quit games; not just players.

When somebody quits, just try to find out why and wish them well. And if you post for a replacement, you'll get plenty of offers. Demand greatly exceeds supply here. People really want to play. And those that get in late are often so jazzed they give you 100%.

Astyannax stood on the deck of the Absalom-bound ship.

I'll be mucking out stables for months after this one. Accolades are rare when "well, at least nobody died" is the positive view.

"Aroden, I won't give up."

He went below to see if he could win a few coins off of Omrax before they arrived home.

I thought it was fun and well run. Didn't drag, which is quite a danger in PbP.

And hey, we did behead a grandmother kobold wielding a broom!

If any of you end up applying for something I run, remind me you were in this PbP.

Merry Christmas!

Harold Camping in 2011. Mayans in 2012. As a Christian, I anxiously await 2013's prediction..

And when it finally happens, I'm going with This Song

The original is a classic, of course.

Half of us going out the front, the others out the back. What could the future possibly hold???

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Ezrek might move faster if he'd lay off the donuts....Typo joke.

Trying not to get tangled up with Luisila (hey, he didn't know it was her!) as they try to squeeze through the door and get by the pony, Ast pursues the bartender.

He says something soothing to the angelic pony as he hurries by

Hey, he's a good cavalier.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

What did Luisila mean by "she's invisible now?"

Turning at the smack to the back of his head. "Oh, Lu. Good to see you."

Ast who does NOT jump over bars takes a double move; first to J18, then to O20 or O19 if Lu gets there first.

So much for relaxing in a nice tavern

I know the website was having problems, but we seem to have hit a lag. Whose turn is it?

Cavalier: I think I was enamored with the recently discovered APG. Otherwise, no idea why I'd pick that for my only PFS character. Doesn't make much sense, even with the "searching for Aroden" fluff.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

BTW, to anyone who liked my comment to the bartender:

Nathan Fillion, who most RPGers know as the star of the Joss Whedon scifi movie (Serenity) and tv series (Firefly), and of course, Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog, is the star of the tv series Castle.

He is FANTASTIC in the role of a rich writer (think James Patterson) who gets to play cop.

He and his mother are being held hostage during a bank robbery in one episode. Things are very tense. At one point, he turns to his mom and says, "Mother, I am no longer satisfied with the service at this establishment. I believe that we should take our business elsewhere."

Setting, mood, timing, delivery, etc: it was PERFECT. I love that kind of humor, which I emulate (poorly).

If you haven't seen Castle, it's a very good cop show and it made me a Fillion Fan and led me to discover the brilliant Dr. Horrible...

Astyannax, who ended First Steps I lying, unconscious and bleeding, in the streets of Absalom, has, in this pivotal encounter:

A - Chopped up a chair;
B - Nearly impaled a waiter;
C - Used a pickup line on (unknowingly) the randy party clericess.
D - While not actually doing anything that would hinder the enemy.

The Society really needs to better screen their candidates.

I suppose we can blame it on the "A cavalier is lost without his horse' syndrome...

Been fun so far!

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax (who can't actually see either female with him), turns to Luisila (not knowing it's her), flashes a 14 CHA smile and says, "I didn't know that there was an angels happy hour here."

He then looks across the bar.

"Madame, I wish to register a complaint about this business. The lighting is terrible in here. I can't see a thing."

Just seemed like a chance to be a little goofy

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax, mildly surprised to actually be standing upright after moving, hears Luisila's shouted direction and moves carefully in that direction.

A double move of half speed steps, which should get him to the bar at L17.

"On my way, Luis"

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Sorry. Was thinking of my half-elf ranger. Wrong PbP

Yeah, same move pattern. With my rolls, I have no doubt I'd fall down

Iomedae, restore my vision! he silently pleas as he moves.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax hear's Luisilla's frantically shouted instructions over the din. Having successfully vanquished the chair, and in light of being blinded with a sword in hand, he cautiously moves forward and to his right.

If mother told me not to run with scissors...

Her 45 degree angle sounds like a diagonal, which would limit my movement to 10',5',10' etc.. I leave that to the GM. But however it works out, his intent is to move half speed (15') in that direction for a move action. Then a second move action at half speed for another 15'.

]The goal being to avoid falling down.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Blinded: that will teach me to complain about difficult terrain..

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

I think I saw a Laurel and Hardy episode like this fight scene...

BTW, a very cool site that, if it continues to be developed, will quite a resource for PF players.

I say that as a big fan of the Inner Sea World Guide.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax feels another attack glance off of his armor, though he is still blinded. Factoring in the flurry of movement and the now known location of the chair, he swings again.

Blindness 1d100 ⇒ 44

This time he feels no resistance as his sword cleaves nothing but air.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

BTW, I don't know why the 50% thing confused me. It's just like rolling low on a 20 sided. Shouldn't have required a thought on my part. Sorry.

I'll blame Holiday stress...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

We may have cross posted. I had something like (low hits like Ormax and reworded it to convey the same thing. I never saw your post).

I took Omrax's post to be 1-50 was not miss since he swung an attack after the roll, so I copied it.

A miss is fine with me if it's consistent with Omrax.

The chair had no chance, regardless...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

If Ast made his blinded roll, then rolled a 20 for attack, how did he miss?

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Nice reference to the FAR superior version by Manfredd Mann (as opposed to Springsteen's).

Astyannax yells in pain and surprise as a blade slides into his shoulder. He draws his sword and lashes out in the direction the strike seemed to come from.

50% chance blinded (high =Miss, like Omrax)1d100 ⇒ 20

Attack[ooc] 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

[ooc]Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

He connects solidly, hoping it wasn't one of the party.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Maybe badger is just the stunningly handsome but quiet type...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax remains standing at the table as discussions begin. He can't help but feel that this is going too easily after the difficulties in getting here.

As Luisilla prattles on, It has to be an act. If it weren't we should be able to hear the wind whistling through her ears.

But hearing so much discussion of the Azlanti reminds him of his quest for Ardoden, leaving him only partially paying attention to the table.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax walks in last, looking around tavern.

Thank the gods. Civilization!

Overhearing Rees' comment and looking towards the bar, he grins. "Oh, I certainly hope so."

Aside from his horrible Perception roll, Ast is just happy to be inside someplace dry and warm.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannx looks sideways at Omrax as they walk along the streets of Escadar.

Not much of an adventurer.

Loud enough for the others. "If you spellcasters need to refresh yourselves, I suggest we put for the night and start out in the morning. If not, let's get this mission moving.

He continues along, a spring in his step. It is good to be in a military town.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax watches Ezrek have more success with Tanner than the group did with the woman before.

Maybe I'll just stick to sword work.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

I think I'll sit this one out, Ast decides as Tanner turns and screams at the water.

Do you have to be crazy to be a ship's captain?

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Some fine diplomacy rolls there. Maybe we should just pirate the boat and sail ourselves over.

Any charm person spells???

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Diplomacy check
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
THAT is a bad roll

Astyannax steps forward. "Captain..er...captainess..uh... Yes. We would like to book passage on your fine sailing ship."

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

[ooc]Omrax - italics means thinking, rather than said aloud; or so I was taught here on the PbP boards.

I can simply add 'he tought' to clarify.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax had spent some time making arrangements for Achilles to be cared for while they were gone. He listened with interest to Omrax's report.

[b]"The old man sounds insane. I've already had enough craziness with that kobold. I prefer either of the other two.

I hate water travel. Armor does not float..

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Giving others a chance to post before I suggest we loot the hut.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Yeah, a defenseless kobold has no chance against Ast.

Astyannax glares down at the headless body before him.

"She should have learned some manners. That is NOT how you greet visitors."

He looks around for Rees, not immediately seeing him.

"Rees?"
He wasn't on the map

As the group has a healing huddle, Astyannax eyes the magic rake, not picking it up yet.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax senses Omrax moving up and he slides diagonally forward left.

5' step to H13

"Flank her, Omrax!"

C'mon, blade, it's a kobold with a rake!

Frustrated at the kobold's agility, he swings again, chopping downward this time. C'mon, Critical!

Attack
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Confirm Critical
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Damage
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Critical Damage
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Haven't hit a critical in what seems like years. That right?

Ast smiles grimly as he feels the sword bite into the kobold's soft flesh.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

In battle massages?, Those Calistra followers....

I LOVE Smite Evil!!

One of the avanced races gets Smite Evil as an ability, I think. Half-celestial, maybe? Whatever it was, my group had one as a ranger. Man, that was one over-powered character. My paladin carried her bow for her...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

I had a dwarf paladin fighting some wererats.

First, he missed his attack.

Then his silvered short sword was disarmed.

Then he pulled out his battle axe and missed that attack.

Then that weapon was disarmed.

Some fighter with a pole arm managed to carry the day as my guy prepared to smack a wererat with a crossbow swung like a tennis racket...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

BTW, the paizo dice roller absolutely HATES me. If you figure there's a 5% chance to roll any number on a 20 sided die, you, my teammates, will find that I roll below a 10 a disproportionate number of times.

If PF used the old "Fumble a weapon on a 1 roll", I'd be a monk with his hands constantly falling off.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Ast breaks free of the vines and muck wrapped around his ankles.

I hate Aspis agents AND kobolds!
He tries same move to I14, hoping to not get entangled this time. Assuming he gets to the kobold..

Astyannax swings his recalcitrant sword at the annoying kobold.

Attack
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Damage
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

...she holds up her rake behind her and gives a "come hither" motion with an open palm. (Bruce Lee style) GM Post of the Week!

Ast is already moving as the crocodile gives its death throes and plants himself between Ezrek and the kobold.

"I hate crocs"he yells as he slashes at her with his sword.

Attack
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Astyannax, meet your sword. Maybe you guys could work together some day

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax struggles to keep his balance in the swampy terrain.

I hate this place.

He swings again, hoping to hit the croc, which seems to be distracted with his chewing on the half-elf next to Astyannax.

Power Attack
1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 1 = 17

Damage
1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8

He feels some satisfaction as this time his sword makes solid contact with the beast's scaly hide.

Hopefully we'll fight somebody NOT in difficult terrain so we can try some flanking.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Ast will take a diagonal through L17 (friendly square), then straight to L15

Astyannax first turns his attention to the odd kobold with the rake, then swivels his head as a crocodile bursts out of the swamp. As he rushes towards the reptilian threat, he sees it try to take a bite out of Omrax.

Why does everything want to eat the elf?

He pushes past Haraldir and charges towards the croc, drawing his sword and swinging as he moves up next to the paladin.

Power Attack
1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 1 = 6

And Astyannax swings and misses....

'Gee, let's go walk around the log and see who is whistling.' The Society needs to do better testing

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Sorry for your loss, Haraldir.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

After eying the shack, Asyannax looks back at the hacking, disheveled Luisila. We already have a hag in the party...

"Likely the home of a hedge witch or somesuch. Unless one of you swamp-fevered folks would trust her to help you with spells or medicines, I agree with Badger: trouble likely lies inside."

We could have just taken a short ship passage. I'm going to kill an Aspis agent for making me trek through mountains and swamp.

Though I hate to deprive Neb of what is likely a solid RPing opportunity!

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax, trailing Haraldir and leading Achilles by the reins, looks back at the others.

Well, we've killed one beast and avoided being frozen to death. I'd say it's been successful so far.

He asks Luisila, "So, what led a priestess of Calistra to the Society?"

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Acrobatics

1d20 ⇒ 12

1d20 ⇒ 5
1d20 ⇒ 10

Fortitude
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

May not be on again until late tomorrow night

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

ast calls up, "do not leave me out. An offering on my behalf, please"

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Not much of anything, I'd say.

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Knowledge-Religion check if relevant for somebody standing 50' below on the ground
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

"Could be my patroness, Ioemedae the Inheritor. Does she have armor or a sword?"

I should have put 1 point into Climb!

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax yells up, "Drop in a silver and come back down."

He looks at the group on the ground. "The last thing we need to do is annoy some goddess up here by pilfering her offerings. Of course, ignoring her shrine might be just as bad. A coin should get us out of her intact."

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

As Haraldir prepared to make his ascent, Ast loaded and cocked his heavy crossbow, moving away from the ranger to get the best angle on the ledge above.

He'll be pissed if I accidentally hit him...

Grand Lodge

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Star)/1

Astyannax, walking up front with Haraldir, sees the light up above.

This place is just full of surprises.

He holds an arm up, indicating a stop to the train. Then he points up to the light.

"I don't know what that is and I'm not crazy about simply leaving it in our rear."

He turns to the ranger next to him.

"Do you want to scramble up and take a look? We can try to cover you with our crossbows. Somebody else who is good at climbing can go with you."

"If we all need to go up there, I'd like to make sure everything is okay before we leave the animals down here."

He frowns as he waits for responses.

They always told us, don't split the party...
