----

Born 15 Calistril, 4680 AR.

Riana was a merchant's daughter from Vidrian (then Sargava). Unhappy with her country's turmoil and the violent racism that plagued her country, Riana fled across the sea, catching first a pirate vessel and then an "honest" merchant's vessel out of Bloodcove headed for Absalom. However the ship was raided halfway to her destination, and Riana and the other passengers were taken by Ulfen raiders of the Blood Crow Kingdom as slaves.

The enslavement was thankfully short-lived, however, because the Ulfen ship was attacked by a different Ulfen Kingdom--that of King Rogar of Froststone, a smaller fiefdom that often harries the Blood Crows. Rogar's Raiders slaughtered the Blood Crows and set their prisoners free. Riana was grateful for the rescue, and having no other particular plan in place, decided to settle in Froststone.

The Lands of the Linnorm Kings were a far cry from her homeland, but Riana made do as a merchant with the skills she'd picked up from her father. She soon met a handsome bowyer named Gunnar, and the two married after a passionate but brief courting stage. Less than a year later, Astrid was born.

Oldest of three siblings, Astrid quickly learned she had much to live up to. Her mother was well-educated and sharp as a knife, and her father was boisterous, dexterous, and full of wild tales of the frosty northern realms.

Sadly, she didn't get to know her father as well as she would have hoped; he died during a raid on their village from the Blood Crows. Astrid found herself helping her mother raise her brother and sibling at the age of twelve, as Riana spent much of her time running her small shop. Astrid, having learned bowyery from her father, put in work there when she could. Her brother, Akida, and sibling, Loki, were a handful, but things slowly began turning around when her siblings were old enough to help around the store.

The local school wasn't up to Riana's standards, so she whiled away the time between customers by teaching her three children herself. None of the siblings were by any means stupid, but Astrid far outsttripped her siblings in pure academic aptitude. She soaked up information like a sponge on topics from geology, to Kyonin history, to Kellid creation myths, to arcane runes. When she turned twenty, Astrid decided it was time to find her own way in the world. She kissed her mother, Akida, and Loki goodbye, shouldered the master-crafted longbow she'd spent the last year perfecting, and headed out into the world.

After adventuring in Varisia, Razimir, Vidrian (a pilgrimage her mother found rather amusing in their correspondence), Mzali, and Vudra, Astrid finally returned to Avistan and eventually took an extended sabbatical in Kraggodan. When she heard about the troubles in Phaendar, she worried that the capital might be next. She made the long pilgrimage through hobgoblin-infested lands with a small band of Chernesardo before finding herself stuck at Longshadow when the Legion hit. She comported herself admirably defending the walls and helping tend to the injured, her belting song strengthening the bow arm of her companions on the walls.

Now, however, she's stuck in Longshadow without a guiding force, mostly working as Catie's harrassed and overworked assistant in the healer's tents where the worst of the injured still recuperate.
