"Maybe see about getting the bear back up Ulmarr. I'll keep them distracted!" Artemis said before she drew her blades.
"If we don't move swiftly and those figures are from that village they might die." Artemis told them before she swiftly followed after her friends, readying a javelin. "I can toss this to distract them, but if they are our enemy we lose the element of surprise."
"A bear." Artemis commented. "We could stop and take down the bear for both meat and fur. What do you think?" She asked Ulmarr.
"I forgive you Ulmarr." Artemis said. "You forgot yourself for only a moment, happens to the best." "Very well. You, Izússavar, and myself shall take a look. The rest can continue on and we shall catch back up." Artemis agreed.
Artemis paid Ulmarr a slight glare when he nudged her, only their friendship kept her from reacting as many other Junos would. "If we force march it could wear out the group and lead us into a trap... a small force could check everything out while the rest moves along." She suggested.
"You heard him." Artemis said as she looked back to the main group. "Keep your eyes open and your weapons close." She advised. "We may see more than we expected."
"Then maybe they really have come this far north." Artemis commented as she looked the camp over.
"Or it could be bandits of the human kind no?" She asked.
"You think they would have enjoyed having company." Artemis said as she ensured everything was squared away before she took her place among the group. "But I guess in such odd times even those who would be welcomed are met with distrust." She commented. "Yes let us depart before we're met with worst."
Artemis looked to Ulmarr, a look on her face that seemed to be a bit of confusion. Had they themselves not come up from the south? Could the bandits they saw be further north?
"We took anything that was worth while." Artemis said. "Mainly rations." She added with a shrug. Artemis gave a small sigh when she heard that they had a hunting party go missing. "Any idea where about they went missing?"
"Yes, we found a small base of theirs." Artemis said as she took a seat to make herself at home a bit. "Though we have not run into any orcs so far, which may be luck... or odd."
Artemis dug out her own coin to pay for dinner and a room. "I only remember finding orc tracks, so I didn't think that elves would be common bandits..."
"It isn't like we've somewhere else to stay." Artemis said as she opened the door when they came to the inn so that the group could file in. "At the very least it should be warm no?"
"I agree with the merchant. It would be best to rest here than in the open. How much further do we need to go to reach the location?" Artemis asked as they made their way to the gate. "Surely it can't be too kuch further?"
"We could burn the bodies." Artemis suggested. "Would give them better burial than allowing the animal to have at them."
"Do you not wish to do something with the bodies?" Artemis asked as she even offered him a rage to wipe the blood from her blade with.
"Then I suggest we render judgment no?" Artemis asked as she looked to those who hadn't spoken yet.
"I'm starting to doubt we'll get anything from them." Artemis said with a small sigh. "Not without more extreme measures that I don't wish to take."
"Right, lovely." Artemis sighed as she rubbed her forehead for a moment. "Thank you, one last thing, can you try to get them to explain what this... "enlightenment" is?" She asked.
"Ulmarr, they might not be able to understand us. Maybe try elven?" Artemis asked with a shrug.
Satisfied that the group was safe and those they had rescued where now under watchful care, Artemis stepped to Ulmarr's side. "I greatly suggest answering him." She warned them as she crossed her arms.
Artemis walked over to the group and looked to their group while Ulmarr was dealing with the bandits. "Did anything happen while we where gone?" She asked.
"If we had more men behind us I'd say we give it a look at least. But this group isn't built for this." Artemis pointed out. "We're here to scout a select area and that is all the manpower we've been given."
"I agree." Artemis said with a nod. "We'll take the back to question them. Izússavar, bound them please and get them ready for the walk back to the group." She requested as she pointed him to the bandits Ulmarr stabilized.
Artemis gave Ulmarr a side grin before looking annoyed as the leader vanish. "H-How did..." She muttered before she joined Ulmarr and the prisoners. "How are they Ulmarr? Can we get them back to the group?"
Artemis gave a grunt of pain from the slash upon her flesh. She got a small look of worry till she noticed Ulmarr joining her combat. With a small grin she stepped out of the flanked position so that she flanked with the now large Ulmarr.
"Coming to my rescue Ulmarr?" Artemis asked jokingly.
Artemis too the chance to charge at their leader, as he had shot at her.
Artemis followed a respected distant. Though she knelt next to her allies and whispered "What do you think it is?"
"Get him up." Artemis ordered the group. "Give him some water and something to eat." She told them before she looked to Ulmarr. "Izússavar is correct, there might be a chance still. Think you can track them down Ulmarr?" Artemis asked.
"This is a body there." Artemis said as she pointed to the fallen man. "But I am unsure if it is either of your friends." She honestly told him. "What did they look like?"
Artemis looked around before she sighed. "I don't think they made it...What is your name?" She asked.
"Gone." Artemis said with a nod. "Ulrik? Varin? Where they fellow guards?" She asked.
Artemis gasped as her going through the paces of what happened lead her to the guard against the wagon. "Ulmarr... he's still alive!" She said, though really it was for those around them. She was sure that Ulmarr knew before she did. "Can you heal him?"
Artemis stepped up and looked the scene over, trying to see if it was indeed orcs that attacked these people.
"If we're lucky we never will." Artemis said. "Our task is not to hunt down orcs, but to get to those ruins. We shouldn't waist time with things such as this."
"Let us hope our luck holds out." Artemis said. "Quickly, let us get moving, I don't want to wait and see if they are still around!"
"Then we will need to be extra careful. Maybe even putting three people on watch at once." Artemis suggested.
"Ulmarr, could this be a base they use for raiding?" Artemis asked as she came up next to him. "Have your people been having trouble with the lately?"
"But Orcs can see in the dark." Artemis reminded him. "While I do agree that a fire all night is a poor idea, I think while we still have light we should make several smaller piles of wood to light if something goes wrong. That way if we must fight all will be able to see what they're swinging at."
"We'll sleep in shifts. Two people on watch at all times while the rest of us set up camp." Artemis said as she fully stood and pointed to two guards. "Set up a small perimeter, we'll begin setting up camp." She instructed.
"Ulmarr is correct." Artemis said with a nod. "and if they are in the area we need to be on our guard even more than we first thought." She added.
Artemis knelt down and looked through the tracks trying to tell how old they where.
"Ulmarr, can you tell how old these are?" Artemis asked.
"It is much better than having nothing but open area all around." Artemis agreed. "Lead the way Ulmarr. This is more your lands than anyone elses." She said.
"We tie another rope to them and attach it to this one. Then someone leads them across." Artemis said, though in truth it was a suggestion.
"That was pretty much my plan but with a javelin. So no complains here." Artemis said with a shrug. Once he was satisfied it wouldn't come free, Artemis offered to hold the other end of the rope so he could cross and if it went wrong she could pull him back.
"One could get pulled away by the current if they can't hold on. Though with enough rope they can tie it to that and move along." Artemis suggested. "Does anyone have a cross bow? If not I can tie the rope to a javelin and throw it across."
Artemis gave a small smile as she turned fully to the troop. "Let us see if we can find a tree that will reach across. If we cannot we can cut down logs and make a raft." She suggested. "There isn't much else I can thing of. Outside of braving the torrent."
"I think the problem is more of the roaring waters." Artemis pointed out as she looked around the area. "A clam river can be passed with ease, this is more problematic... If we cannot find a way to cross here we will have to go up or down river."
