Well, there are definitely things that we could use, but if you know someone that can do it, perhaps I could get my bow enchanted instead? I think getting it enchanted to be a Holy weapon would help when fighting the Dark Traders.

If that isn't possible though, I completely understand.

We'll use the shrinking gem for sure... it just apparently isn't anyone's first choice, but it does seem like a valuable thing to have for the future.

Since I favor archery, I could use the bracers, but happy to have any of the rest of the things if anyone else wants the bracers.

As for dealing with battles, the thing that would help the most in my opinion is having a detailed battle map so that we can place ourselves to avoid difficult terrain, bad conditions, etc.

There are things that help with DR... like clustered shot feat, etc, or having the right type of weapon to get around that particular type of DR, but those things aren't necessarily predictable unless we know what we are going up against ahead of time. ... If the dark traders are all evil though, getting a holy enchantment on our weapons would help... however, that costs a +2 enchantment, which is expensive.

Anzarra shows the papers, leather bag with items, and shield to the group what she has found, asking if any of them have a need for one of the items, lets them pick something, and then goes to get healed.

Before Lyra sets fire to the place, Anzarra searches it thoroughly for anything valuable, and any clues.

Hearing Lyra's suggestion, Anzarra casts Flame arrow on all of her ammunition, hoping that the additional damage added will be worth the time taken for casting the spell.

Anzarra is hit and poisoned, so she backs up even more and just throws another fireball, making sure that she places it far enough back that it only harms the bad guys and not her friends.

Fireball Damage: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 5, 6, 5, 2, 3) = 31

DC 17 Reflex save for half damage. (And out of fireball spells for the day.)

Also, she can throw a fireball from really far away, so they were already over 65 feet away, and she backs up to like 100 feet at least to do that, hoping that the fur projectiles can't reach that far, or at least that the distance will reduce his accuracy.

-1 Con takes her to 9, so max HP is currently down to 50, and with the 7 damage she is down to 43/50. It also reduces her Fort Save if she gets hit again. (Noting here because it is different than in my tagline.)

Anzarra conducts her regular business, and also finds some time to work on more Crystal Movie scripts:

She continues to work on Science Fiction scripts, but as she gets to know the culture of the area she adds in some regular dramas and a little bit of rom-com...

In one of her Sci-Fi scripts a creature just like Tolish is featured as a misunderstood friendly, helpful alien just trying to find his way home (sort of like ET, but with more tentacles).

In another one, a young sailor meets a high-born young woman when she and her family go on a luxury cruise on the ship where he works, and they sneak around to see each other, and finally find a way for him to meet her parents when his captain loans him his suit (with captain's bars on it), only to find out that both their fathers worked at the dock when they were young, and like each other already, so they are wed, and the societal restrictions they imagined for themselves don't really matter.

Anzarra helps Lyra and Moira adjust the machine before they try, and also feeds the remaining power from Imcheck's shield into the field, trying to stabilize the magical flow before they make the change, so it will be a little bit less volatile.

Lyra... it looks like this device is attuned to humanoids, so Tolish is immune. Do you think that we could use that and maybe attune it to... err, mosquitos or something? Wouldn't that effectively disable it and give us more time to find a solution? ... Or if you don't think that is possible, do you want to use him to help disable it?

Can you fight? There are Zombies in the water there, there, and there.

Anzarra points out the three zombies that survived their shipwreck, and suggests that, if it can, removing those zombies from the equation would help them to keep him and them alive.

Since the Zombies have full cover and she can't get a good shot to finish them off, Anzarra runs back inside to see what is keeping Lyra.

Seeing what Lyra is working on, Anzarra examines the device and associated "egg" to see if she can help.

Anzarra gathers up all the luggage and items from the other plane and tosses them one by one out the door to her crew so that she can examine them more thoroughly later, and perhaps sell them on the black market if they are not dangerous. They at least will be collectible curiosities.

(She leaves any cameras and phones or other electronics because they are more fragile, gathering them together and saving them for when they leave... and that way they are easy for Lyra to find, as above.)

She doesn't answer Lyra because she is waiting for Octo to reply, but it is an interesting idea. She wonders if the Zombie ship was related to the island in some way, and again, why in the world they would sink their own ship.

Anzarra is confused by the zombies sinking their own ship and wonders why they would do such a thing. She hopes that the sharks don't get indigestion.

Anzarra tells the crew to see if they can find purchase for the anchor, since these islands seem to disappear. If it is too deep though, she just tells them to do their best to maintain position while she and the rest of the strike team go in to investigate.

She examines the building before entering, searching for mental connections to things that she has learned previously, but she also casts detect magic to see if this is some kind of enchantment.

Okay, so they are going to catch up to us, but as I said, we're going to be fine. One down, five to go. Just keep yourselves safe.

She continues to sing, casts true strike again, steadies her shot and shoots at another crossbowman. (At 200 feet out.)

After comparing notes with Lyra and before they leave to find the palace, Anzarra goes back and finds Tom again and tells him that she took care of the thing that was haunting him, using calm emotions and bluff liberally if needed.

(Just want to make sure he has the chance to go back to a semi-normal life rather than living in fear because of those stupid boys.)

In the interest of time, Anzarra instructs her first mate to evade the Zombie ship, but tells her crew

If we can't evade, don't worry. Just get behind something and we'll take them out. This is the team I've put together for raids. They are very competent.

If they get to within 400 feet (the max distance she can shoot with range penalties), she starts singing to inspire the courage of the crew and casts Gravity Bow, then casts True Strike, steadies her shot, and takes a potshot from 400 feet out at whatever zombie looks like the leader.

She searches once again for Tom Stoer, even though he ran off the first time she talked to him.

This time, she uses a spell (adjustable disguise) on herself so he doesn't remember her and run.

After she finds him at one of the bars he usually hangs out at she will use calm emotions and charm person as needed to get him to talk. She hopes she doesn't have to charm him, but if he is inclined to run again, she will.

Here are rolls for the talking parts, but they didn't work last time, so she will rely more on spells to ensure success this time.

Anzarra looks at Arlo on the deck as the image of the mysterious fortress disappears.

Well, from what I was able to gather from the residual magical energy signature, I believe that timing is the key. An optimal time to return would be in approximately 10 days. Let's return then... and maybe see if anyone else wants to come along when we return. What do you think? The kid I found that had been to one said to not take anything along, but that it would be worth it to go... but then he ran off. I wish we could find out more.

In her downtime, Anzarra starts working on some Crystal-Movie scripts. She loves Science Fiction, so she throws in space battles and lasers and alien creatures that this world may not have seen. She's very prolific, but uncertain about how good they are, since this is the first time she has tried anything like this.

I'm thinking bluff might help with this, since lying is basically creating fiction... so, if that works, here is that roll.

Anzarra uses more of the power of the crystal shield to maintain control over the sword. My shield is down to 9/19 now.

Do you HAVE a trough of holy water? I don't think I can control this much longer. I have examined it, and I can't find a way to turn it off or alter it magically. I think it has to be destroyed, but quickly!

Anzarra isn't sure what will help, but as she struggles to keep the sword at bay, she has one idea. She sinks to the floor, casting a spell, and channels burning hands into the sword, trying to direct it at the malevolent force within.

Coming in late, Anzarra is surprised to see combat breaking out in the middle of the ballroom. She is worried about what is happening, and what might happen next, so she slides down the wall so she isn't blocking the exit and has a little more room, and then casts a spell.

Does the original substrate need to be returned if we have the means to make it new and heal those wounds? We may not be able to track it all down, although of course if it is being used for evil it would be better to stop that. What if it is being used for good though?

Anzarra thinks about what to say, for if they destroy all of the substrate then, seemingly, a lot of the magic would be gone from this world and a great evil would be averted. But is that the best way to solve the problem?

She finally decides to trust the Guardian, hoping that it had truly been restored to sanity, and tries to describe the machine plans that they had found and how evil they were, and the revised plan that they had made to try to make the populace immune to manipulation but still able to have new experiences using the power of the substrate / soul gems.

She also explains about the Dark Traders and asks if there is anything that the Guardian can do to prevent itself and this facility from being used for evil.

You said we could use the shields to assist our saving throws; I got that.

However, you also said that it would drain the shields, and that the shields were also keeping the spirits away, so I took the damage so I didn't drain the shield and its other benefits.

I'm not sure I know either. You've been here longer than I have. It seems to want to know what was done here by others, which I don't know. It wants us to heal the substrate/substratum, which seems to be able to be done through this workshop, in return for repairs. The one useful bit of information so far is that the guardian is in a circular chamber where he can be disabled, but "manipulations of the substrate" I don't understand. We're speaking past each other here. I didn't even understand clearly what these soul gems were before I came here, and now he wants to know what was done with them by someone else...

I have no idea what others have been doing with the "substrate." All I know is that these things we call soul gems seem to have magical properties that can hold an enchantment and power magical devices. With that rudimentary knowledge and my knowledge of magic in general, we've tried to design a device that can defeat a pervasive evil in this world. I would love to help you disable and heal this guardian you speak of, and I am sure that the help you can offer will be useful, but I have never been here before. I can't tell you anything of those who have visited previously, other than that this place is guarded by the Dark Traders, so I am convinced their work is evil.
