Angus matches stride with Fliss. When they are a bit away from the trap, he says "I can tell you have a kind heart, Fliss, and I admire that. The people of Falcon's Hollow don't have the advantage of plentiful fields or vast herds. Many have to make due with what they can hunt, trap, or forage." He frowns. "There are also those who trap for furs to keep warm through the winter months. Trapping is probably one of the least kind ways of making a living, but for some it is all their skills can manage. Hopefully the animal's suffering is not prolonged. At least the trapper was nearby, not letting it languish for days." You know nothing, Angus Lockheart.

"Everybody calm down. Is your interest in the fox, the trap, both, or in us? We won't be lowering our weapons just yet. And I think you'll find us harder targets than you think." Angus calls out, looking for the source of the voice or any others in the treeline. Angus, realizing Fliss is once again charging head-first into the unknown, follows wearily. As he approaches, he sees Fliss trying to release the trapped creature. "What's the plan, Fliss? How are you going to heal it? Are you going to leave something for the trapper who probably relies on these to make their living?" Angus asks the questions in a softened tone. "Story books will tell you it will be grateful, but reality is often uglier. Do you care enough about this animal's life to jeopardize the lives of our fellow Hollowers by delaying our quest to care for it until it is healthy enough to move on its own?"

"What one would expect at the best watering hole in these parts. Lots of traffic. Be on the lookout for Saingrist's crawlers and snakes, but we should be safe enough." Angus answers Ezren's question before heading to the waterfront. To Fliss: "Hear what?" He caps his waterskin and slings it, drawing his bow and looking around.

"There are, of course, dangers to the lake... large snakes" he gives Fliss an apologetic look [b]"..."Giant turtle or frogs, the occasional lake monster, stuff like that, and of course predators coming down to take a drink or eat some prey doing the same. At least if we stick close to the shore, we should have pretty good sight lines. Maybe even spot something for lunch if we're quiet enough." Angus offers, breaking the strange quiet he fell into during the conversation with the undead kobold. Angus looks to see if there are tracks of any animals or others in the vicinity. Hey all, thanks for the well-wishes and things. I have issues with my eyes that will hopefully be fixed with surgery on Oct 13th. In the meanwhile the problem with my left eye has corrected itself and I can rejoin the game as long as I am welcome to. The eye issues were compounded by getting Covid and a delay in my surgery, and then being in a car crash didn't help (fortunately no one was injured.) Very unfortunate time lately but I'm hoping all that will be in the past very soon.

Angus takes out his gear to see what he has to field dress the snake, since he had planned on doing some foraging as part of his meal planning for the trip. Angus looks out into the darkness, squinting and listening for sounds of any movement. Snakes, especially giant ones, tended to hunt alone, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Tangentially he side-eyed Gustav's work with the snake's belly.

Not my wedding, but rather the wedding I'm going to. My daughter's best friend from high school and one of my best role-playing mates is getting married. She says she looks at me like a father and wanted me to go, so here we go all the way across the country. I'm honored she sees me that way and my daughter is unlikely ever to get married herself (or at least unlikely to make a big deal of it if she does.) Was tied up yesterday with the funeral of my favorite uncle, so there's some bitter with the sweet these days; I'll take all the sweet I can get :)

I too enjoy roleplaying with pbp. You get to get your thoughts down and develop a voice/style for your character, and explore more fully the relationships between characters. Especially with a shorter module like this.

Angus lets out a snorting laugh "I expect those men would rather see your blood spilled than ours. Out there working while you sit around in the office." He smirks "Surely it need not come to that, though. We're on a quest for Laurel, trying to find ingredients for a brew she can help folks with the blackscour. We're looking for Rhoddam. Angus says "And I'll donate to a church that I see doing good among the community with the money instead of filling their halls with gilded chalices and needless statues, or just curing those with coin to spend for that matter." Lowering his own voice he adds "Nothing that I've heard. Druids are likely busy dancing with faeries or feeding the werewolves or whatever it is they do. Olfden probably doesn't know anything. Angus was raised in Falcon's Hollow and after a few years away in a nearby city training for war, he has returned home to find his father stricken ill with blackscour and his mother forced to work in the cutyards. In an effort to avoid good honest wageslavery, he has decided to be the hero Falcon's Hollow needs, putting his considerable martial training to use on behalf of his fellow townsfolk, even if it ends up meaning he has to bust a few local heads.

Angus has two main goals right now: Heal his dad and get his mother away from the cutyard. He actually sees healing his dad as a means to get his mom out of working for the consortium: If his dad becomes able-bodied again and Angus becomes something of a local hero, he might be able to exert enough pressure to get dad re-hired (by the scruff of his neck if necessary.)

Angus is from Falcon's Hollow, indeed. To say he loves the place would be a vast mis-statement, but he is dedicated to the idea of making it a better place to live. Angus and his twin brother Alden grew up in the clutches of the Consortium. His father, Benjin, was a consortium lumberjack who ended up owing the company more money than he could make working for them, and essentially recruited the boys to help pay off this debt through work at age twelve. When they were fourteen years old, Alden was killed while the two boys were felling a large tree. Angus blames himself for his brother's death, but only half as much as he blames the consortium and Boss Kreed. He quit the lumber business age sixteen and left to Augstana, joining the militia. Having served three years, he has returned to Falcon's Hollow with the single purpose of making it a better place to live for his family and families like his, only to discover his father stricken ill with blackscour and laid off by the consortium. His mother has taken a job at the cutyard and is doing the dangerous kind of work Angus fled from three years ago. |
