Amyrtaeus ponders the situation as he watches the others struggle in vain, stroking the scale in his pocket. He was hoping that they would be able to budge the boulder on their own, and was somewhat annoyed that they couldn't (not that he was being of any help himself). He pondered whether it was worth expending another use of the scale, considering how incredibly useful it was. He studied the strange creatures for a moment longer before conceding to Zaigan's plea, despite his reluctance to reveal that they had anything of value. Hopefully these creatures have a sense of loyalty after this. "Stand back, I will move the boulder," he said with a mix of boredom and self-importance. Activating the scale, he points upward and commands the boulder to rise, freeing the creature trapped beneath.

"Fascinating," Amyrtaeus whispered quietly to himself upon beholding the structure. Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 "There is no doubt, that hammer is Torag's symbol. How peculiar to find it here. It seems it has fallen into disuse, though." Amyrtaeus pondered its origins. It wasn't unlikely to find such a building dedicated to Torag underground, but in these uninhabited tunnels it didn't make much sense. Were these tunnels perhaps civilized once?

"I'll not press you further for now, although once we're in milder conditions I'd chance to discover more about your brother's peculiar state." As Amyrtaeus returned his focus to their surroundngs, things only seemed to get more and more curious. He pondered whether he'd heard of any underground civilizations in this area. Knowledge: 1d20 ⇒ 6 +8 for Arcana, History, Local, and Religion, +4 untrained for all others.

"Thank you Aravashnial, your expertise is proving quite helpful. It's a shame that neither of these are powerful enough to restore your sight or Lady Tirabade's leg." 'Or fix Gwerm's griping,' he thought. At Arngir's bold challenge, Amyrtaeus gave the phantom an incredulous look. "Careful, you spectral tangerine. We're not looking for trouble." Turning to Garlok, he asked, "Where did you say you acquired this... Warrior?"

"Hopefully those vermin are the least of our troubles down here. I'm glad to see that we're not helpless just in case. You're pretty handy with that thing, given you- I mean its proportions," he said, gesturing to Kala, hesitating to insult her stature in comparison to the unwieldy hammer. Had he not just seen the dark Tiefling above-ground before the attack, he'd have mistaken her for one of the invading demons. He was grateful that he had not. Once it seemed that they were in the clear, Amyrtaeus asked to inspect the contents of the bag they had found as well as the other scavenged items. He focused his magic detection on all of items that had been recovered thus far and observed their potential magical auras. Spellcraft is +8

"That will be of little need at this time Aravashinal, but thank you. It appears that we have some luck after all with this strange survival party. I am Amyrtaeus of Osirion, a magic specialist transferred to maintain the wardstone. It seems our friends have seen battle, so I trust that we're prepared to handle this. The three of you stay safe behind us." Despite Garlok's resistance, Amyrtaeus still had many questions about the glowing spectre. They would have to wait as he insisted, unfortunately. Standing just a bit behind the rest, he casts a spell in preparation, creating an invisible force in front of him. Casting shield.

Amyrtaeus slowly shifted to consciousness in the darkness at the sound of other voices. Just as he was about to respond to the request for light, as he needed it himself, another illumination flickered and lit up the area. Sitting up and taking in his surroundings, he took note of all who were present, noting that his charge, Alexandre, was here as well. He watched carefully and quietly as the half-orc tended to the wounds of the others, surprised that the majority of those around him seemed to be without a scratch, himself included. Now that he had his bearings, Amyrtaeus chanced to stand up, drawing his scimitar and flickering his own light into existence upon it. He drew his attention back to Alexandre, reaching a hand down to help him up "Looks like you're stuck with me a bit longer than we agreed upon." Despite his nonchalant demeanor, Amyrtaeus had a lot on his mind regarding the incident above-ground. The Wardstone should not have failed like that. Something was very amiss, and he couldn't figure out just how it could be so. Even moreso, the gruesome death of Terendelev burned in his mind.
Here is my character submission, Amyrtaeus. He is a kineticist from the Occult Adventures playtest, and his party role includes finding and disabling traps as well as ranged damage support. He'll have a few nifty tricks up his sleeve along the way, such as being able to disable traps at a distance at level 2. I may dip a couple of levels in barbarian later and make him into a melee striker with Kinetic Blade, but I'm not sure yet. It'll depend on the party and what is needed. If you click the link in his name in the statblock, it'll take you to a Myth-Weavers character sheet as well. All of the information below is also available in his character page. Thanks! Statblock:

Background:
Amyrtaeus is a nomadic Kelish native of Osirion, originally born in the capitol, Sothis. After making a name for himself as a fugitive in his home city, he fled to find ventures elsewhere in the sands. He quickly took to tombraiding, as its high-risk-high-reward stakes spoke to his nature. Upon such a venture, however, he was cursed with a dark and powerful magic protecting one of the tombs. After blacking out from the mental shock of the curse, he found the tomb around him blasted completely through by some unknown force. Once he reached a nearby civilization and recovered, he began to realize that he was that force, and that the power granted to him by the curse came with a price. In exchange for mental control over physical objects, his mind and dreams were scarred with darkness that ate at him constantly. Additionally, his shadow became hideous and demonic looking, frightening those who took notice, usually leaving him run out of most civilized areas by superstitious folks. To make things worse, his lack of mental control meant that his powers tended to cause havoc wherever he went. After a year of training in solitude and continuing to live off of tombraiding expeditions, Amyrtaeus decided to answer the call to the necropolis of Wati. At this point, he has practiced fine control over his powers and learned to ease his mind, although his tainted shadow persists. Appearance:
Amyrtaeus is a 22-year-old Kelish man of average height and weight, though he appears quite lean. He clads himself in fine, breathable leathers and silks. A pair of goggles rest on his clean-shaven head, which he lowers during sand gusts or when working with dangerous mechanisms. He has dark, sunken eyes and a weary look about him that makes him look aged beyond his years. His shadow, if one were to notice, is very abnormal. It shifts into horrendous, demonic shapes with horns, claws, tendrils, and more; a sign of his curse. Personality: Amyrtaeus is rather paranoid for a number of reasons. Whether it be his constant interaction with trapped tombs or his experience with others' distrust and violence, he's made it a matter of personal effort to always be on constant lookout. While he was never quite sociable before his cursed accident, since its occurrence he's been even less so; speaking to few and trusting none. He is constantly assaulted by the dark thoughts that intrude on his mind, though he has learned to keep them at bay in order to control his powers. In truth, he's just as worried about having an explosive accident and harming others as he is about his own safety. |
