In "The Edge of Anarchy" it often references patrols of Hellknights stalking the city. But no stats of a level for that adventure Spoiler: When my pc's captured Trinia and were attempting to escape Midlands district I had a need to make the atmosphere of Korvosa more dangerous to a certain halfling rogue, who is doing an awesome job roleplaying, but ends up taking up the sessions with many solo side jaunts. I had a gang of Imps attack and attempt to rob him on one such and the party caught up and drove them off (imps are no drop in the bucket for 2nd level pcs) this certainly made him reconsider solo without muscle or magic. I have decided it needs reinforcement.
The party decided to take Trinia to The Pantheon of Many where the Paladin has connections to his patron Iomedae and have been put up in a sort of "safe house" till they can get the head cleric to cast Zone of Truth or the like. My plan was that the imps (with the infernal connections to the Hellknights order) noticed that it was Trinia and followed the party using the at will invisibility. Then went back to a patrol of Hellknights, or one of the orders clerics and gave the info to them. Which spells for the party "Midnight Hellknight attack" with a possible "Imps on the second floor" thrown in for good mayhem's sake. So I too seek a lower level Stat block...I may just use generic 2nd or third level fighters...and have yet to plunder my guide to Cheliax. Any thoughts on flavor that would make them seem more Hellknight-y? ![]()
![]() I been playing in a Rptools Maptool game for the the last 3 years, and we've had games where the GM was in th U.K., and players were in 4 different states from the east coast to the west and various meetings where people were away on business and it ran on some older laptops just fine. Since the GM's computer acts as the server (and if you use the initool) it's a little more processor intensive, but I believe at least once the GM ran it from a laptop or netbook. It's free as of yet (open source) and coupled with skype for voice and ooc chat it works well for our group, the disconnect from not being at the same table physically seems to have actually enhanced the RP and suspension of disbelief to some extent. ![]()
![]() I've scanned several threads about this but I need some input. The phrase "You do not receive additional natural attacks for a high base attack bonus. Instead, you receive additional attack rolls for multiple limb and body parts capable of making the attack " leads me to believe that a creature-say a cheetah- gets 3 attacks (bite, claw, claw) as a standard action as that is under the standard action section of combat, while the "full round action" section never specifically mentions natural attacks but more or less refers to pc's multiple (iterative) attacks. In grognardsville we always gave the animals their attack "routine" claw-claw-bite or whatever. But this is a new way so help me out. They only get the "routine" as a full round action? Makes sense, yet it isn't specified in the rules. ![]()
![]() I would point out also that there are other spells (Curse, Bless) that single either your friends or foes out. A third interpretation would be that any foes in the area of effect at the time of casting are effected but friends in the area of effect at time of casting are not. But anyone that moves into the area after the spell is in place is subject. It wasn't a big deal at the table, the DM ruled the Druid could move into the area of his own spell but others could not. But we all noticed the wording and there was some later debate...even to the point of saying perhaps if the Druid was concentrating then his WIS modifier in "friendlies" could move freely but we all agreed it seemed alot of excess mechanic for a first level spell ![]()
![]() The spell entangle (Druid Level 1) states:"This spell causes tall grass, weeds, and other plants to wrap around foes in the area of effect or those that enter the area." Does that mean friendly creatures are not effected (such as members of your party)? And does the "those that enter the area." refer to foes or any creatures that enter the area? I'm of the opinion that it DOESN'T apply to the Druid and his friends, but at a session the other night this was called into question and I would appreciate some feedback from you, the gamerati on the subject. ![]()

![]() As someone who has 10 and 7 yr old comic readers, I think Marvel has added alot of useless gratuity. I don't know the particulars of that book but my boys were all into the dark wolverine and weapon x after the media blitz from X-men origins, and after reading the first one I had to pull the plug It could have been done without the cheesy sexual references. I'm sure there are sweaty fanboys out there loving every minute, but it's a freakin comic! How does one try and raise a couple little guys with sufficient nerdery if mainstream comics are all going R-rated? estupido ![]()

![]() I think deathboy runs a game up Hartford way on Saturdays. he can be found on the player registry at pnp games (someone already linked to it above) @ Bardok: PM me over at pnp games (again the link is posted above) same name (amardolem) I'm in Oxford, a mere stone's sling from New haven. The group I play with is doing 3.5 but I'm bringing them over to the PFRPG (sad thing is they all got the core book somehow, yet I, who pre ordered it here, have not! *GRUMBLE*) ![]()
![]() Kurukami wrote: One of my specific questions is how well the new XP system works. I know that in running Age of Worms in 3.5 (with one side-trek into Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk, which is about a third through), I've had to halve or even quarter the XP I awarded to keep the PCs more or less on the track of "your PCs should be this level when they start this segment". How does Pathfinder's XP system stack up? I went with PFRPG's "fast" xp option and they're right there, if slightly (very slightly) ahead... And again I used the table from the 3.5 DMG for calculating xp at the end of sessions and such. (I don't think there is one in the BETA) ![]()
![]() I've run 95% of "There Is No Honor" using the "Minimal change" option which is leave everything except a few feats and stuff (with regards to npc's and monsters)as 3.5; aka: less work for lazy DM's (heh) and the parts that have been deemed TPK's (Parrot Island for one) didn't seem nearly as daunting to my PC's. ocasionally they did have some incredible luck tho. if there's anything specific I can probably tell you what I did and the outcome....one thing-> they trashed the thieves hardcore. The party was so quick with stuff that the little ambushes that led to Dead Dogs Alley didn't get to lead them there. I had to use a couple extra Bugbears (that then became the Bugbear zombies in Lotus hideout-to supplemnt the thieves. They did have alot of fun, and we definately without a doubt did away with the 15 minute adventuring day. I guess that's all tha really counts.... ![]()
![]() PlaY it! roll up some characters and play it with your family! It's like going to an antique motorcycle show and waiting around till after they they give out the trophies. ALL the guys start their bikes after that and you hear sounds that aren't heard by almost anyone in the world today (even if most of the dudes didn't ride their bikes there and they're just riding them to the trailer in the parking lot) it's like a time machine! ![]()
![]() Sounds cool! Hartford's a bit of a haul (Tho I have commuted up there for weekly games before) my real dilemma is Saturdays. There are a bunch of gamers up that way, you shouldn't have a problem finding someone. Try the geolocator at: Pen and Paper

![]() What about lemon meringue pie? It has a dramatist layer on top, gamist lemonny goodness inside and a crust of simulationism. Then there's cheese cake. Explain that cake folks. It's practically pie and not really cake at all. I'm for pie, cake's mystique was denuded by the holiday tradition of fruit cake, which DOES NOT have gummi bears in it. (or sour gummi worms which are better.) PIE ![]()
