A natural showman, Balthier prefers flashy spells that gets him noticed.
Originally he is from a steppe migratory tribe. When they found out he had a knack for magic they started training him to be the tribal spiritual leader. He never could get the hang of the spiritual part and was sent on a vision quest. When he returned a week later (without having a vision) he found his tribe had been wiped out in an attack. So he wandered to the first big city he could find and started taking up adventuring work to get by.
