Backstory:
Alexite Pavo was born in Korvosa, the self proclaimed greatest city in Varasia. Born to a wealthy merchant household he soon showed faith in Abdar, god of civilization and prosperity, to match that of his pois father. As a second born it was only fitting for him to serve the church of abdar when he came of age, leaving the family estate to his older sister. The church of Abdar welcomed him and his faith was such that he swiftly became a true cleric, adjudicating disputes and witnessing oaths and contracts to smooth the flow of commerce. This continued for three years.

Eventually, though, Alexite began to see flaws in the very basis of the laws he enforced. The poor prayed to Abdar every day in the church but their lot never changed. Wealth didn't flow as it should - it accumilated like stagnant water in a crubling cistern in the treasurise of the elite. Somewhere in Abdar's vault was the perfect economy, and it looked nothing like Korvosa's. What use was money? Why did people have to be rich and poor? Alexite's sermons became more and more radical. He did not preach resistance or rebellion - chaos benefitted nobody - but he did encourage the poor to look to themselve and their own communities for prosperity, and - if presented with no other option - leave the city of the simplicity of the fields.

Alexite's superiors viewed this as heresy. He was given a chance to repent but he did not. He was banished from Korvosa, but tellingly his divine powers remained. The high prist explained this away as pragmatism from Abdar - "a wise man does not discard a flawed tool right away. He makes hard used of it until it breaks. So Abdar will do to you".

These words weight heavily on Alexite's mind as he travels Varasia, looking for a community that demonstrates his belief that the perfect civilization has no need for coin or greed. All he has found thus far are wealth-driven trade towns and anarchic barabarians, but he hasn't lost faith - yet.
