About Alexion AriadnisAlexion Ariadnis
Bio:
Born 18 Rova, 4419 AR. Alexion spent his early life cooped up in the beautiful but isolationist Iadara. Yearning to experience the world he'd read about in books, he left the moment he was old enough, volunteering to be an emissary for Kyonin to other burgeoning human countries. He spoke to Choral the Conqueror in his new throne room as it was being built in 4499. He spoke to the Chelish armies who drove the Shoanti from their native lands in the Storval Plateau in 4507 (his attempts to speak with the Shoanti were, understandably, met with nearly lethal hostility). He met with representatives of the gold dragon Mengkare during their push to populate the newly-formed city of Hermea in 4566. He was visiting the burgeoning duchy of Alkenstar in 4606 AR when he learned the god Aroden had died. Reports of a massive hurricane suddenly appearing on the other side of Garund piqued his interest, and he decided he had to see it for himself. He chartered a ship to sail around the northern end of the continent to Ilizmagorti, where he could get a better look at the mysterious super-storm. The decision ended up being fatally foolish; they came nowhere near the eye of the storm (or even their destination of Ilizmagorti) before the ship was torn apart at sea by ravaging waves. In the midst of the outskirts of the Eye of Abendego, Alexion Ariadnis died. In death, a tall, skeletal figure with the skull of a vulture and huge black, feathery wings offered him a choice. He could continue on to the Boneyard and his final judgment and afterlife, or he could accept the gift of rebirth from the Lady of Graves and return to the world as Her champion. Deciding he had not yet experienced all there was to see in the world, Alexion chose the latter. As a priest of Pharasma, he turned out to be a poor acolyte. He spent his years traveling and seeing the world, giving little heed to his religious duties and only giving lip service to the Lady of Graves. Having never been particularly religious, Alexion found such duties arduous and of little point. He only performed them after much prodding or chastisement, and even then only out of guilt for having been rescued from death by one of the Lady's servants. His gifted powers waned, and he found himself a century later unable to use many of his gifts. Pharasma was apparently punishing him for shirking his duties, but instead of taking the hint and working to be a better servant to Her, he drowned his guilt with self-pity and drugs. He found himself in a pesh-fueled stupor that lasted many decades. In 4710, he finally ended up so stupefied and weakened by his drug addiction that he was pronounced dead and thrown into a pile of other nameless corpses to be buried when someone got around to it. Legally, he had now been dead twice. It was a human priest of Pharasma who pulled him off the corpse pile for burial and realized he was still alive. Sister Aballonia nursed him back to health. Once he was relatively healthy again, she gave him the best advice he'd been given in almost 300 years of existence: "Disrespect the gifts you've been given again, and the Lady Herself will end your life. You have an ability to help others beyond most mortal ken. You have a responsibility to use it. Not for Pharasma, but for yourself. If you don't try to do better, you'll wind up back here on this corpse pile and you'll deserve it. And you know it." Alexion took it to heart, and spent the next decade working on bettering himself physically and spiritually. Now that he's honed his talents to a place where he finally believes they'll be of use, he has joined the Pathfinder Society in hopes of finding new opportunities to do the Lady of Graves' will -- and guide others away from self-destruction the way he has been guided.
Bot Info:
Alexion begins each battle with non-undead enemies with an ultimatum. He's not so foolish as to think evil-doers will take him up on it, but he is duty-bound to offer. He is also wary of those who do take up his offer, and if he believes the person is lying, he considers it the same as having denied his offer at all. Further, any act of violence against himself or his allies frees him from this duty and he will punish them accordingly. He always tries to put himself in harm's way, particularly keen to protect physically weak allies such as spellcasters. He uses his Glimpse of Redemption reaction at the first opportunity in a round; while he raises his shield whenever possible, he only uses Shield Block if there isn't an immediate threat of an ally getting attacked. When dealing with undead, Alexion often uses his lay on hands focus spell against a particularly large opponent. If there are no undead, he reserves it to bring back an ally who falls mid-combat. If he has used up his lay on hands spell and has not yet Refocused, he will use his Desperate Prayer class feat as a free action to regain a Focus Point only if an ally falls (since he can only use the feat once per day).
