Male Human

"With the way the ocean looks these days actually threatening to throw him in would be almost as bad, D-Frag" Kid opines looking around to see if this was causing a scene or not... he liked the pub and didn't want to cause a big stir if possible -- at least not the sort the other locals didn't like.

Male Human

Alan almost chokes on his drink when he sees what Neko is up to but keeps his mouth shut and continues trying to drink.

Male Human

Welcome back!

Male Human

"Do we know if regular traffic will be on the streets during the race?" Alan asks.

Male Human

You know I really did want to buy the hovercraft upgrade for my bike too...

Male Human

"I honestly kind of like the splitting up to grab them -- it's not like we have to all be there, we just have to get the ribbons in order and get across the line." Kid offers, "If we want to we might be able to get the drop on some of the opposition at the bridge. Use the fact that it's a chokepoint to our advantage to wipe out some of the competition. At least the stronger competitors... I don't think we should wipe them all since that would make it easier for lone star to simply focus on us when we get to that point."

Male Human

"Hm... the first one will honestly be the easiest for me -- I have spells I can use to grab the ribbon down easily enough." Alan announces, "I kind of doubt that it will be just that however -- after all they have to expect that this information will be leaked and plan around that too."

Male Human

Yeah I was glad I had the magic thing right on that attribute boost -- I was not looking forward to dropping off the last 5 dice on that test, or 4 dice on the pilot test!

Male Human

"Neko who did the work on your bike? Getting it sculpted like that had to cost a fortune." Kid asked as they went in, "It has to be slowing you down some, have you considered trying to lose some weight and throw a mirage engine in it... wait are those smart tires? I didn't think anyone ran with those."

Male Human

Had a thought -- if we find out we have a dice pool wrong do we want to just drop the dice on the end or drop a hit altogether (if we overstated the dice pool)?

Seems like a good time to get this hammered out rather then when serious stuff is going on.

I have a program that ran the price the same as I had so thought I had it right (not to say I do though -- just that I think I do).

Male Human

Time to eat my drain! My understanding is that the drain is going to be 4 from the number of hits I got on the ability. I resist with Body and willpower so 5d6 5d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 2, 4) = 15 = 1 hit = 3 stun.

Getting to the bar first had should have been fairly easy -- after all he knew where he was going more than the others, but D-Frag started edging ahead, and slide and Neko wouldn't let that go and before he knew it they were all jockeying for position.

Damn -- I wouldn't have had a chance if I hadn't boosted before we started Kid thinks to himself as they go in, the fatigue from the magic coursing through his body setting in, but they don't have to know that I guess!

The bikes were in good shape that was for sure, won't have to worry to much about keeping them in order and ready I guess Alan thought to himself as he held the door open.

Male Human

Hm... The Contrail has an Acceleration of 20. 20*6=120*25=3,000.

I'm not sure why you are using the speed in the acceleration slot for that.

However it should be 31,800 if I double the anti-theft instead of the personal armor (which does make since -- I simply went down the list of options).

This will work out okay since I had left about $1,000 for overrun (beyond what I spent on my starting wealth roll) on the sheet.

Found what I was looking for on the magic side of things:

Every point of magic invested in mana-based abilities grants the character one point to use with magic-based skills. For all other purposes, including the determination of the maximum level for adept powers, the character's full Magic attribute is used.

So I only get power points for the magic I invest in adept powers, and I only have a magic score of 5 for spells but for the use of my adept powers I use my full magic score (since that's something other than spells or power points).

Male Human

My understanding was that you use your magic rating, and you resist drain after the boost runs out (which would be 8 rounds in this case if I did it right -- 2 rounds for every hit).

I'll double check it though because what you are saying makes sense too.

Contrail (10 slots) 5,000
Armor 1 slot 2,400 7,400
Anti-Theft 1 slot 2,000 9,400
Engine Upgrade Speed 2 slots 5,400 14,800
Engine Upgrade 2 slots 3,000 17,800
Fuzzy Logic 1 slot 2,500 20,300
Motorcycle Gyro Stabilization 1 slot 1,800 22,100
Personal Armor (4) 2 slots 2,000 24,100
Smuggling Compartment 1 slot (overmod 1,500x2) 3,000 27,100
Run Flats 0 slots 500 27,600
Pilot Upgrade 0 slots 3,000 30,600

And then I had rounded up for good measure.

For future upgrades I'm looking at a sensor package, and pilot upgrade to level 6 -- that would give the bike a 9 dice pool for driving itself, instead of its current 6. Maybe a sidecar with some goodies in it much later on.

Male Human

Kid focuses inward subtly heightening his Reaction time:
Attribute Boost: Magic(6)+Power Focus(1)+Attribute Boost(1) = 8d6 = 8d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 6, 5, 5, 4, 5) = 33 = 4 hits

With that done he revs up Epicurious and takes off.

Pilot check: Handling(1)+Reaction(8)+Pilot(3)+AR(1) = 13d6 = 13d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 6, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 4) = 61 = 9 Hits

Male Human

I built my own bike since I got Arsenal this weekend:

Contrail (31,000)
Handling +1 Accel 24/48 Speed 212 Pilot 3 Body 6 Armor 12 Sensor 1
Upgrades: Armor (12) Anti-Theft, Engine upgrade (speed and accel), Fuzzy Logic, Motorcycle Gyro System, Personal Armor (4) (overmod), Smuggling Compartment (overmod), Pilot Upgrade (3)

I think I got everything right -- the mirage is a great bike but I figured Alan would go for something with more upgrade room -- the fuzzy logic, pilot upgrade and motorcycle gyro system means the bike can keep upright and going while he does his spells too, so that's good news!

Also I put all of Alan's Stats up in his profile too.

Male Human

Kid walked over to his bike chuckling a bit at Slide, "Buddy let me give you a bit of advice -- you try to pop a wheelie on that one all you are going to do is dump yourself off."

Once outside Kid walked to his bike -- it was fairly nondescript covered affair, with side by side wheels. The engine was covered, hiding it from public view but it was obvious there weren't any weapons mounted -- just armor which covered the rider and possibly a passenger (if they weren't Orc or Troll size), "Alright it's a calmer part of town but Slide don't be putting any moves on the staff -- the owner don't like it much and the staff don't either."

He tossed a chip to each of them, "You all have nav right? That'll keep me on your screen if I start to lose you."

He waits while they key the chips (or not) before starting it up. The engine starts smoothly and the constant thrum of a strong engine that doesn't need to announce its presence with a lot of show is easily heard.

Looking around Alan asks, "You all ready?"

Male Human

"That's good enough for me about the engine." Alan replies, the line of questions were simply to confirm his suspicion that they didn't have a working prototype and that they would be looking at his to figure out what it could and couldn't do, "Wrecking Crew is fine too. You know another thought is perhaps simply a name of a doctor that would work on credit or on an understanding until we 'hit the big time' so to speak."

The insurance bit didn't phase Alan too much... he had his own contract having learned long ago that he preferred his employer not knowing his every medical quirk if he could help it.

oops lack of player knowledge there sorry, but that works!

Male Human

"Keep a clean nose and you might be worth our time, eh?" Alan chuckles a bit, "It'll make the run a bit more difficult, but whatever. One last question -- I get the rest of the specs after the race, build the engine, prototype it out for you, what sort of assurance do I have that Yamatetsu isn't going to come down on me like a falling layer?"

He shifts his weight and straightens up, "Not that I'm adverse to a bit of risk, but if I got a new engine running that's that much better I'm going to have enough people after me in the circuit, I would hope to know that I'm not going to royally piss off a big corp while I'm at it."

Male Human

Alan frowns, not that the money was bad or that he had specific reason to believe that the Johnson was lying but with the bit of dealings he had with corps before he didn't believe they were getting all the details.

"I've got a couple of questions," Alan announces holding up a hand ticking of the question on his fingers as he talks, "1. Is this a public sponsorship? 2. What race is this for? 3. Why not use his own men? and finally 4. do you have a working model of the engine yet, and why provide such astounding technology as payment for a single race when instead you could keep it in house and sell it yourselves?"

Male Human

Winching at the 'music' for the area Kid turns his Comm off, letting the bud zip back to the unit -- watching the ceiling as his PAN fades from view, he didn't see anyone he recognized right off the bat, but he was also wasn't use to such a scene. Moving to the bar Kid flags the bartender. Sliding the man a suitable tip Kid tells the man, "I want to see the most Twisted room in the place." Mentally winching again at the very idea of what might be concerned even more twisted than the psychedelic main room.

Male Human

"Well you certainly are the start of something are you?" Kid mumbled to himself around a bite of sugar flakes. The plans looked legitimate but with all the numbers filed off so to speak it was hard to tell, "If they are right it'll certainly make for a faster bike."

Shrugging and leaving the plans on the table Alan returned to his room and got dressed for the day... not that he had much to do currently. Between jobs most people would have called it, perhaps considering it a bit of a vacation. Alan hated it -- it made him feel useless and a bit adrift... the last garage he had worked for was a corporate type, they hadn't allowed bereavement so when he had to get the details worked out when his mother had passed on and was late to work they canned him. So far the few other garages he had put in for had liked his work but were afraid he was a spy or corporate saboteur.

Having eaten and dressed Kid moved to his 'living room' -- not that the size of it was much, all told he had maybe 1,000 square feet... but he didn't have to deal with much rationing and it was big enough to keep his bike inside and work on it some. He had to shell out a bit more for a clean pad to keep the site manager happy but once that was in place on the floor the only thing the man cared about was the fact Kid stated ahead on his rent -- it was enough that he was polite enough to Alan usually.

The rest of the day was pretty plain -- fiddling with his bike, sending off a reply to D-Frag confirming he had gotten a message and when he was planning on leaving, and sending off a few more resumes took up his time until lunch.

He headed over to where his sister worked for lunch, one to keep the money in the family and two to let her know about having a possible job offer (not that she needed to know doing what yet).
