Akallabeth is Tall, Lean, Muscular and "Devilishly" good looking. He has shoulder-length black hair and a neatly trimmed goatee.
Akallabeth is cynical & untrusting, (but not stupid), and always has a quick quip, jibe, or casual insult. This is a reflection of his inner turmoil, and how he 'deals' with coming to grips with his new found abilities. Part of this comes from the fact that he is afraid he might hurt someone with his not-quite under control powers. But no matter how badly he treats people, his new-found Charisma keeps attracting people to him. This causes him more fear & frustration.
Background (Enjoy the novel!) Spoiler:
"Akallabeth" was an orphan, raised by foster parents until he was old enough to be given, (Some say sold) to House Deneith. From there he was raised by a man (Commander Mitchell "Target" d'Deneith) who was extremely firm, but fair. This man became his mentor & father-figure as well as his commanding Officer. He chose the name of "Ben Steelshard" and was trained as a fighter, but he was also a Wizard specializing in using his spells to support his team. The day before the "Mourning", his squad was given a special mission. A strike at the heart of the Karnathian command structure. Success would almost guarantee the end of the Long War. It was, of course, a trap. They were ambushed by scores of undead. The commander ordered his troops to flee while he held them off. To a man they refused to leave him. To a man they died. Weakened past the point of death by the draining touches of the undead, "Ben" watched as the Vampire Commander killed & fed on Mitchell, all the while bragging that Mitchell (specifically) had been betrayed by one of thier own. The Vampire Commander left, and the mindless undead began to feed,...and then the Mourning.
At first he was just glad to discover he was alive, and that he had NOT joined the undead that he thought had killed him. Then his connection to the forces of magic returned, not as strong as before, but effortlessly by sheer force of will. Then the itching between his shoulder blades heralded the appearance of his Dragonmark, the 'Mark of Sentinel' of House Deneith. This supported his unproven theory that Commander Mitchell had actually been his real father, and that he was a D'Deneith, not an orphan. Then the nightmares began.
Then his spells began manifesting as burning flames, despite all his attempts to control it.
Finally he 'dissapeared'. He left the House Deneith compound where he lived with his few remaining possesions, Started calling himself 'Akallabeth', and started a small business as a 'Freelance Mystical Inquisitive'. Unfortunately, business hasn't been good. As 'Ben Steelshard' he has registered his Dragonmark, as befits a loyal soldier of House Deneith. But so far no one has connected 'Ben' with Akallabeth, and no one knows that Akallabeth bears a Dragonmark. He is tracking down, slowly, the person(s) who might have betrayed his mentor. But his first goal is to find , locate, & destroy the vampire that killed his mentor. He is afraid of his new powers. and of who gave them to him, and why. But he is determined to master them. and to use his powers to destroy evil, no matter what the beings who may have granted them to him might say. Statements of Refresh & Intent-

Intent- He wants to find the Vampire Commander that killed his mentor, and also the person (or persons) responsible for his mentor's betrayal, and kill them with his mentor's sword. (This is sort of 2, Vampire first, if I can find the others, great!) Refresh- To destroy Evil wherever he finds it. BUT he holds a special place in his heart, (and in Hades) for the UNdead, and will always seek to engage them first in any encounter. Quotes:
