When Adrick was a young lad he had spent may a day at the docks near his home waiting for his father to return from his latest voyage. William Balasar, Adrick's father was a cook on the ship Excalibur and was often gone for months at a time. While the father was gone Adrick stayed with the house caretaker, his mother having gone mad at not having her husband around, became a religious fanatic decided to cleanse her soul. She would take a long walk off a short pier and was never seen again. When William was home he and Adrick would often spend time together in the kitchen learning to cook various types of food. William was teaching the boy everything he knew of the art and the boy absorbing it all and always loved both the calmness that cooking gave to his soul and the time spent with a loving father.
When Adrick was 14 news had gotten back to him that the ship Excalibur was set upon by pirates and was sunk to the ocean floor. Adrick was crushed. He had lost both parents now and was forced to be on his own. He gathered some meager possessions and followed his father's footsteps and took to the seas as a ship cook. For 2 years he spent on the ship called Shine. And upon becoming a well liked cook on the boat he also was trained in the use of a longbow in case. Thankfully if was never needed. It was the last week on the ship that had the most impact on the now 16 year old. Upon walking the deck in the early evening of the finest day yet with the finest meal he had ever cooked in his young life, Adrick saw the last of the sun's rays glint off a small metal object. Curious as to what it was Adrick walked over and picked it up. The moment his fingers came into contact with the cool metal a strange but inviting warmth came from his inner being and a strange feeling of peacefulness came about. Walking back to his quarters Adrick inspected the object. Must be some kind of holy symbol he thought.
When the boat docked the first thing the boy did was gather information on the symbol. He had learned that is was a symbol of Sarenrae, the goddess of sun. He also learned that she had a small temple dedicated to her in the port town. Upon getting directions, Adrick walked into the temple and the same feelings that a washed over him on the boat came again. Adrick immediately sought after a priest and asked about joining the clergy.
4 years later after finding his faith strong in the teachings of Sarenrae, Adrick found he had developed strong connections to the domains of Healing and Sun. The head of the order, a beautiful sun maiden, had told the now handsome young cleric that he had little more to learn here in the temple. He was now required to go out spread the word of the Sun Goddess. She also handed Adrick a magically enchanted chain shirt and buckler and a weapon of the goddess herself, a scimitar. Upon donning the armor and placing the sword at his waist, Adrick left the temple with the blessing of the head cleric and of Sarenrae herself.
