About Adrian "Duke" SampsonName
massive wall of backstory:
Born on July 5, 2154 to Maxwell and Stephanie Sampson, Adrian lived the perpetual life of living out of a box as a military child. Both parents were enlisted in the Alliance Navy and as such he spent more time on spaceships than he did planetside. He grew up around the military and space vessels and knew from a very early age that he'd follow in his parents footsteps. Although those plans seemed dashed when in 2160 he was accepted into the Biotic Acclimation and Temperance Training Program or BAaT. Due to the the separation from his parents and knowing almost no one things were difficult for young Adrian. Things became even more difficult when in 2166 Turian Commander Vyrnnus took over the program and made life seem unbearable. While in the program Adrian became something of a leader and guardian to the other younger students. He helped them with lessons and give them support after particularly difficult training sessions. This lead to Adrian forming a strong sense of responsibility to those around him and feelings of needing to protect others. When the program was eventually shut down in 2169, although sad to leave his friends whom he'd formed close bonds with, he was more than happy to see his parents. Emboldened with a new sense of purpose and love and support from his parents, Adrian received further biotic tutoring from various sources, including a few highly trained Asari. Upon turning 18, he did exactly what he knew he'd do since he was little and joined the Alliance military. The Alliance finished his biotic tutelage and was given his first assignment as one of the SSV Cairo. The same ship his mother was once assigned to as CAG. Adrian was a natural born leader and rose through the ranks quickly to become a very distinguished soldier, despite for his sometimes problems with authority and wise-ass nature. He has always felt that being a good marine meant thinking while even in combat and occasionally questioning orders he's found lacking or grossly incompetent. His abilities and quick thinking have also given him a slight sense of bravado and has on more than one than one occasion committed acts that were 'incredibly stupid, but brave'. Despite this he performed well and had very few problems with his commanding officers. In 2176 Adrian was plantside when the Batarians hit Elysium in the Skyllian Blitz. He performed admirably and saved the lives of 10 civilians when his position was overrun by a Batarian squad. For his bravery he was awarded the Palladium Star a several commendations. Wanting to get payback for the strike Adrian requested transfer so he could participate in the Battle of Torfan. Due to his service record and actions at the Blitz, his request was approved. The Battle of Torfan was something of a turning point for Adrian. His life had been fraught with adversity and challenges that he'd risen to overcome and accomplish. As such he came to think of himself as strong than 'whatever the mass relays are made of.' But unfortunately Torfan would change that all. Torfan saw the bloodiest and deadliest exchange of combat that Adrian had ever seen. Alliance and Batarian soldiers alike threw themselves at one another in wanton bloodlust and carnage, each wanting revenge for the lives lost at the Blitz. Adrian seemed to take it in stride but that would quickly change. As his squad was heading forward to take a forward position many were taken down in a hail of bullet fire by an enemy squad. Their objective was to provide support for another group attempting to secure a forward landing zone so that fresh tanks could be brought in. Noticing a group of batarians sneaking up on the squad tasked with securing the LZ, Adrian notified his commanding officer and that they needed to take the squad out to make sure they succeeded. But as he finished his report orders came down that were to advance to another position and provide relief. His CO order him that they needed to move out but he refused saying their job wasn't done. His CO begrudgingly admitted Adrian was right and that they needed to finish. Volunteering to assault the batarian squad while the rest of the unit provided cover support, Adrian would take out the batarians and assure the LZ was secure. He moved out and after some intense fighting and impressive biotic displays, the batarian squad was taken out and the LZ was captured. Upon his return to the rest of the squad, Adrian found the rest of his unit dead. They had been assaulted by an enemy squad from the flank while they provided cover for him. This tragedy rocked him to his core and cracked his confidence. To add insult to injury, Adrian was sure that the Alliance brass would demote and court martial him, but they did exactly the opposite. The slapped a medal on his chest and promoted him to Staff Lieutenant and gave him another command. Adrian continued to perform well but many noticed a marked change in his behavior. The bravado, charm, and jokes were muted. His smile was a little less bright and the his thirst for achievement stalled. He still performed as an outstanding soldier but was prone to a little more drinking and was far more muted. His life went through further change when during the Battle of the Citadel his father crashed his failing ship, the SSV Warsaw, into a Geth cruiser. The events surrounding the battle and the promotion of Commander Shepard to the Spectres sparked something in Adrian. He realized that he'd been living the last few years of his life in stagnation and guilt. He decided that it was time to change and move on. When the invitation to join a new cross-species initiative was give to him, Adrian immediately signed up. He knew now, that it was time to make amends and is eager to prove it to himself. Adrian has received various training from the Alliance military. He currently holds N5 status and is waiting for a chance to to the N6 qualifiers. A life of growing up on ship gave him a natural inclination to piloting and is certified on a number of vehicles. He has a natural and easy going attitude but still has burst of melancholy and nightmares of Torfan. He's more than willing to work with various species but has a strong dislike and mistrust of Batarians. His mother is currently .He prefers to go by his callsign Duke because Adrian 'sounds too girly.' His mother is currently stationed aboard the Alliance Vessel the SSV Manila as it's XO. His drink of choice is single malt aged whiskey or body shots of any cute woman. ------------------------- |
