Backstory:
Abd al Halim (he goes by just Halim), has spent nearly his entire life in slavery. When he was only 6 years old, he was purchased to be a playmate for a 5-year-old merchant princess, although pet and whipping boy are probably more apt descriptions of his role. Of course he was castrated for the princesses safety. As the children grew, Halim was promoted to the princess' steward and bodyguard. Although the princess was pretty rough on Halim, especially in public, they were very dear friends.
When Halim was promoted to steward/bodyguard for the princess, he was made to join the clergy of Sarenrae as an acolyte. The merchant hoped that by having a servant of Sarenrae accompany his daughter wherever she went, that the Dawnflower's blessings would protect her. Halim didn't mind serving Sarenrae at all. In fact, his devotion to Sarenrae grew to be second only to his devotion to his ward and friend. As the princess grew older and began to travel more, Halim's command of Sarenrae's blessings and his training with Her favored scimitar got them out of many tight spots. When the princess finally married, Halim went with her to her new home. The husband had no interest in his new bride, only the benefits of the union that came with her. She coped by travelling far and wide and, of course, Halim travelled every step by her side.
One day the princess fell ill. All of Halim's blessings and skill did nothing to slow the disease and soon she passed on. Her last request of her husband was for him to grant Halim his freedom, which he did without a second thought. What was one more slave?
Halim now finds himself a free man for the first time in his live. Without his dear friend to command him, he has no idea what to do. And so he fell back on his second love and began taking on errands and tasks for the church of Sarenrae.

Personality:
Halim is an eternally patient and calm man. He loves to minister to the needy in Katapesh, especially to children. He is constantly sending beggar children on unimportant errands to earn coin from him. He uses all of his capacity for calling upon Sarenrae to care for the sick and the needy. He has nothing better to do with his newfound freedom and the church of Sarenrae gives him a place to eat and sleep. Plus, he maintained a small fortune (for a slave) from his adventures with his former mistress. Halim's greatest excitement, however, is to help the wayward to find redemption. He is constantly offering small sermons to any who will listen in the streets. It is only in the face of pure evil that he draws his magically imbued scimitar.
