Due in part to Sebastian's efforts on the WoTC boards and his efforts to ellicit a response from Kim Mohan, many have expressed the feeling that WoTC has done nothing but insult them over the last many months. That got me thinking and I decided to put together a list of things that WoTC has said that I find incredibly insulting as a fan of D&D. Obviously this isn't a complete list of things as it will take me a while to track down all of the ridiculous things they have said but please feel free to contribute what you found insulting. 1) Kim Mohan wrote:
Obviously Sebastian has already brought to light how insulting this is. WoTC, just answer the question. 2) Stephen Schubert wrote: An analogy used around here a few years back was "making the sausage". To extend and warp that analogy a bit: I think we want you to learn how good the sausage might taste, and realize that it can be part of a wholesome (and fatty) breakfast, before we go into the details about how exactly we made it. I think that metaphor is about to break down, though, so I'm going to move on now... Not for nothing, but not only is this analogy insulting (making sausage??!!) but it fails to answer the question. We don't want to know how to make sausage, or how it will taste, we want to know why we are being served sausage when all we want is bacon! The question was 'why' not 'how' and yes your metaphor broke down because it wasn't even relevant to the topic. 3) The 08/16/2007 Dungeon Editorial by Bart Carroll and Chris Thomasson: Upon checking the word count I noticed that only 60 words out of the more than 1300 word editorial pertained to Dungeon. Way to go. Bart, you managed to talk about everything but Dungeon and Chris, for someone who has done a lot of work on Dungeon, I figured you would at least spend more time talking about it. Thanks for wasting my time. Alright, everyone, what other insulting things have WoTC spouted to us over the last year? I know there is more. **EDIT: Ha! I just noticed that they used the same article for the Welcome to Dragon editorial as they did for the Welcome to Dungeon editorial! Talk about not putting any effort into doing this right.

------------------------------------------ For Jehova's Arena Fyren Lassar:
Male Kitsune
Fyren has a skinny but solid build and moves quickly. His fur is predominantly white, though the chain shirt that he wears into battle is almost fully black. He generally enters combat with a scimitar in hand and a shortbow on his back. He is rather talkative and friendly for the most part, though he enjoys a good fight. In many cases, he considers battle a form of recreation, and will engage in it with friends simply for fun. Fyren is the older brother of Fritz. Fyros 'Fritz' Lassar:
Male Kitsune
Fritz is rather frail, having a small frame and seemingly little physical strength. His fur is mostly black and white, although he also has a few splashes of an unusual light blue. The only weapon he can be seen carrying is a light crossbow at his side. Fritz's mood can vary. In most cases, he is generally friendly and happy to talk to others, but he occasionally suffers from headaches that drive him to solitude for a time. Fritz is the younger brother of Fyren. Avatar Picture (Less insane-looking out of combat) 'Rix' (r1x-v5n):
Male Suli
Short gray hair, unkempt and ragged, falls from Rix's head, often hiding his face. He has an unusual look, as the elemental energies that are part of him often seem unstable. Multiple colors of light move and glow underneath his skin, constantly shifting from one location to another. This seems to have taken a toll on his body also, as upon looking closely, much of his physical flesh looks frail, almost malnourished. Despite this, he actually has a fairly powerful form, rather muscular but not overly so, as though the energies sustain him where his physical body fails. When entering battle, he wears medium armor and carries a morningstar, though he seems to disdain them. A crossbow also hangs at his side. His name comes only from a designation tattooed upon his neck, as if branded. Where he got it or why is a mystery, to others and possibly himself, as Rix never speaks. When idle, he simply watches everything in his sight, snapping his eyes to look at whatever draws his interest and twitching every few seconds. Occasionally however, he instead seems to listen to sounds that no others can hear. Syken Oghrush:
Male Half-Orc
Syken doesn't look particularly intimidating or powerful for one with Orc blood in his veins. Going into combat, he has no equipment other than a chain-shirt, though a number of small vials and potions hang at his belt. He talks little, and seems to usually be in a bad mood. He occuppies most of his time reading books. ------------------------------------------ |
