Maya Harlech wrote:

I'm ready for a scene switch to sometime next day whenever everyone else is. Maya will go back home that night, and the next morning show up at the appointed hour with all her adventuring gear.

I'm ready, too. Trapper will also have all his gear.

Male Human Wizard/1

"Thank you, Belethor." Tamilius says to Belethor. Tamilius gives Gozer an ale "Here, an ale for my furry-fisted friend!" Tamilius says with a smile before sitting down again. "I'm ready to relax for the day and have a nice sleep. I'm ready in the morn when I'm needed." I'm good to go.

Date: 22 Desnus, 4712 (Toilday) Dawn (Glorian Calendar)

Those who spent the night at the Rusty Dragon were shown to simple, cozy rooms by Ameiko. They were awoken well before sunrise by a serving girl and informed breakfast was waiting for them. The table was set generously with eggs, a variety of meats, freshly baked bread, and pots of strong tea. Outside the fine weather of the previous day had given way to rain and mist.

Ameiko herself arrived halfway through the meal and encouraged all to eat heartily. When everyone had eaten their fill, she announced it was time to go. She lead the party through the streets which were already stirring with people making their way to work.

The way to the Council House (building 11) took them through Dyer's Square. Old Ben was there brewing up hot drinks for the longshoremen who were shifting goods back and forth between the docks and the warehouses. He gave the party a friendly wave. Aye, it looks like Ameiko and the sheriff got their hooks into that lot.

At the Council House the sheriff waited with the horses. With him were three watchmen. Two were equipped to ride patrol. They were armed with longspears and swords. The third bore a crossbow and sword. His saddlebags bulged with supplies. Sergeant Roque of the Watch did little to disguise his unhappiness about his new duties as the guide to the party.

Male Human Cleric/1

Belethor awoke happy and refreshed Best sleep in a long time. He eats his fill and when he sees Tamilius asks "Hows the face?"

After the party have eaten he travels with Ameiko to the council house. He sees sergeant Roque's pout "You never know you might be able to find a pretty Goblin" He doesn't wait for a response before going over to the Sheriff. "Are those horses for us?"

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Passing through Dtyer's Square, Trapper walks up to Old Ben, claps him friendly on the back, and places the gold piece discretely in the old sailor's hand.
For ye broken urns, and I not take no for an answer.

Trapper then catches up and looks at the heavily armed Watchmen at the Council Building.

Three militiamen armed to the teeth for Goblins ... for GOBLINS? Give me another stout Dwarf and we'll rid the whole coast of those filthy critters before dawn.

*He then notices the rising sun.

Damn

Male Human Wizard/1

Tamilius walks along next to Belethor "My face is good, thanks for asking." and in response to what Belethor said to Roque "I feel bad for that Goblin." and before the Sheriff can answer Belethor, Tamilius gets on a Horse "I'm ready to go when the rest of you are." THIS is what I came out here to do! Explore and adventure!

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Trapper double-checks his possessions.
He wears studded leather armor.
A shortbow and quiver with 20 arrows are strapped to his back.
A crowbar is also strapped across his shoulderblades.
His dagger and short sword are tucked in his belt.
His Backpack contains:
* rope
* chalk
* thieves tools
* adventurer's kit
He holds his war hammer.

He looks at the horses and frowns.
He looks at the watchman and begins to reminisce.

Watchmen. We Dwarves formed our own militia back in Highhelm. One Dwarf, one axe. And I know the humans here need to protect the innocent men, women, and children in Sandpoint, but you can take these law and order shennigans too far. Which is why I'm exiled in the first place. If only my brothers back at Absolom would've listened to reason, we wouldn't have had that falling out. And if I we hadn't had that falling out -- and the ale that went with it -- I wouldn't have lost my job rigging traps on that merchant ship, and if I hadn't lost my job, I wouldn't have had to steal bread from that snotty nobleman and ...

Trapper's face goes rigid.
"What are we waiting for?"

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya shows up, shield and backpack on her back, sword at her side and ready for action.

Let's get out there and kill us some goblins.

Human Human Fighter 1

Remember there is a particular tribe or band I'm looking to pay back for the death of my husband. I don't know their name or where exactly they make their lair, but I do know that one of their leaders, possibly their chief, was a particularly big goblin wielding a dwarven axe, and one of his eyes was milky white. That's about all I have to go on, so let's try to catch a few alive so that I can do a little questioning.

By the way, Does anyone here speak goblin?

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

I don't think languages are covered in the BB

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon, taking his queue from Tamilius, moved over to one of the horses but did not mount. He stroked it's nose and jowl as he answered Maya's question, "I am familiar with the language, as well as others, but it is strange one at that. Very... guttural, and much of it is up to interpretation based on the context the words are spoken. Form and inflection must be considered as well. But, as long as the local Goblins are not completely unique, I should be able to muddle through it."

Trapper, I believe the DM covered this over on the Discussion Forum some time ago when I asked. It was ruled that you get your Race/Culture and Common, plus one additional language per Intelligence bonus.

Human Human Fighter 1

Actually, what I had meant to say was, "Does anyone else speak goblin?" And yes I agree Taby, it is so full of strange dialects that I am not entirely confident in my abilities to speak their tongue, but I will do my best.

Male Human Wizard / 1st

"Of course..." Talberon said, realizing his assumed mistake when Maya clarified.

"...very good. Between the two of us then, we should be able to handle it." he concluded lowering his hooded scarred face and turning back to the horse he admired.

'Why can't I be as comfortable with people as with horses?' he thought as he stoked the horse's neck.

"Good fella," he whispered to the mount.

@Talby - Sorry about that, I'd forgotten.

@Tippo - Will you allow Trapper to speak Goblin since Dwarves and Goblins are mortal enemies?

Trapper's got at least one bonus language from his intelligence, so Goblin is fine with me.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

The Dwarf walks up to Talberon and Maya, bows, and says,
"M'Lord, m'lady, It is almost embarrassing that I tell you that I know the Goblin language quite well, including the dialects spoken around these parts. It's a sinister tongue that sends cold shivers down me back every time I hear it, but I can talk to the nasty vermin if need be, though I prefer the more direct approach.

Trapper hoists his war hammer in a martial gesture.

Male Human Barbarian / 1

I'm ready.

Gozer follows the others from inn and mounts his horse.

I am on vacation out of town until the 24th but I will try and post at least once a day. Thanks

Sheriff Hemlock walks among you as you mount your horses. "The blessings of the gods go with you."

And your party departs. The two watchmen take the lead. Roque brings up the rear. You pass through the gates which are wide open. Farmers are coming in with wagonloads of early vegetables to sell in the market. Everyone nods and greets you politely.

Outside the gates one of the watchmen turns back in his saddle, "I'm Dominik and this one," he indicates his partner, "is Ferike." Ferike murmurs a greeting then turns her attention back to the road.

"And Watch Sergeant Roque, I believe you've met before." Roque makes a sound that might have been a snort of derision or it might have been a sneeze.

"We'll be taking you to the ford at Cougar Creek, that's as far as our authority extends. It should be about an hour or two depending on who or what we encounter along the way."

And so you ride on. The rain eases up but it doesn't look like the sun will make it through the clouds. After a while you hear singing. It turns out that Roque is a fine singer.

I'll need perception rolls from everyone and a sense of where you are in the riding order, assuming you are riding two abreast.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya rides up at the front of the group.

Perception:

Spoiler:

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Male Human Wizard/1

Tamilius will ride besides Talby, but as far away from Gozer as he can.

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Have fun Gozer

Male Human Barbarian / 1

Gozer will ride up front with Maya.

Perception::
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Male Human Cleric/1

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Belethor will try to stay as close to the centre of the group as possible.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Since Trapper may need to use his short bow, he'll bring up the rear so that he can make best use of his archery.

This position may also enable him to dismount quickly (using Acrobatics) and fire arrows from cover (Stealth).

Does Trapper know Dominique or Ferike?
Knowledge Check --
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Perception Check --
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Female French-Canadian

2 19s and 3 5s? Weird? But I once rolled a 20 then a 1, then a 20 then a 1. But I guess I'm blind, as is Belethor :)

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon fell in with the others as they rode out.

Rolls and Thoughts:

1d20 ⇒ 13
Guess I will fall in beside Belethor and in front of Tamilius, who would be beside Trapper and just in front of the trail guard?

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

These hidden rolls are for Tippo, right?

Human Human Fighter 1

I like putting those sorts of rolls as a spoiler, then I don't ruining it for myself by seeing how well (or not well more likely) I did on a roll like perception, where it's more important that the DM see the result than me.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Trapper begins singing an ancient Dwarven drinking song as they ride.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya does her best to tune out the dwarves drinking song as they ride.

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon listens to Trapper's song...

Do I know it? Knowledge Roll:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

...and attempts to sing along in Dwarven!

'Ah, that explains Dwarven women and beards,' he thought.

Then again, I could have no idea what he is singing about... =) Ah ha the hidden skill roll!

Male Human Cleric/1

Belethor laughs "Hmm if only we had some actual drink to go along with the song."

I was naughty and stole a peek ;)

Maya Harlech wrote:

Trapper sings louder.

:-)

Male Human Wizard/1

Tamilius gives Belethor his wineskin "I made sure to bring some along, pass it around. Just don't drink all of it, I think you've a long journey ahead."

Male Human Cleric/1

Belethor nods his gratuity and takes the wineskin off Tamilius and takes a deep swig before passing it back "Suddenly the music has gotten a whole lot better."

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon, hearing Belethor's words, quips, "Thanks, I'll be here all night..." He chuckled lightly, and attempted to get back in line with Trapper's singing...

Male Human

As your party rides along you reach a bridge. The water rushes quickly past underneath, the midday sunshine gleams from the surface.

As Roque crosses the bridge he shouts forward "Will you just shut your mouths. I can't abide your singing..." He is suddenly silent his face going white he just stares and points.

Perception 15:
You notice a half eaten hand trapped beneath the bridge. On looking further you notice the decomposing head, eye hanging out the socket.

Just use your perception rolls off earlier. I will take over if Maya is ok with this. I wasn't sure where Tippo was going with this so I will do my best to follow on. Belethor will remain as an NPC for now. The Bridge is on the road near the Pyre and just beyond the mountains.

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon quieted down when Rogue piped up and looked around.

He was completely oblivious to whatever Rogue had spotted, but he could not help but to think something else in stead, 'Wouldn't we want to turn more Easterly before the bridge?'

"Hey, guys... wouldn't we want to..." he cut off, thinking he may be wrong about there location.

'We have a guide,' he thought instead and turned back to being a follower.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Trapper stops singing abruptly and stares at area beneath the bridge.

Bringing his horse to a halt, pulls the short bow off his back and an arrow out of its quiver.

His eyes are wide.

Male Human Cleric/1

Belethor sees what Trapper is looking at "Do you think we should maybe... get it out." He feels sick. Another of the Goblins kills?

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talby pulled up on the reigns, "Woe!", he said to the horse beneath him.

The discussion between Belethor and Trapper brought him out of his travel weary haze, "What's going on?", he asked, slightly excitedly, looking about as he did.

Second Attempt at Perception:
Not sure you will allow it, but here it is just in case:1d20 ⇒ 20

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

@GM-Hairy -- Are we on the bridge? Or have we ridden up so that we see it from the side?

Male Human

I will say that we are just on the other side. Sorry for the confusion. It will take me a while to get a plan sorted properly atm just working on it as it goes along at the minute. :D

Male Human Barbarian / 1

Gozer draws his greataxe and dismounts. He continually scans the area for trouble and will act if need be.

It's cool. Take your time. Interesting plot twist.

Trapper is in the rear, and he maneuvers his horse so that he has a clear line of sight ...

and he wonders: [i]What am I looking at? Whatever 'tis, I have a feeling it's going to ruin my whole day![/]

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya remains mounted. Her shield is on her back, but she draws her sword, and keeps an eye out for trouble.

Male Human Wizard/1

Tamilius stays mounted "Hey, what do you see?"

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Trapper uses his short bow as a pointer to indicate the carnage to Tamilius.
"Tamilius," he says. "Look there ... and there ... and over there. Body parts. Sends a shiver down me spine. This is what we saw when 'The Chopper' was running loose last year. And at first I thought ... hoped ... it might be remains of one that beast's victims. But this ... this ... this looks ... fresh."

Trapper shudders, but keeps his eyes open.

Perception Check (#2 if necessary)
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Knowledge Dungeoneering (for information about the bridge construction) --
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Human

Trapper:
You can't see anything useful.

Suddenly an arrow punches through Roque's shoulder, blood spurts from the wound and screaming he falls from his horse.

Looking behind you see 3 Goblins squatting on a small ridge overlooking you location. Drool hangs from the mouth of the Goblin that fired the arrow before it screeches "Kill."

Party Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Goblin Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

However your party is much quicker to react. The ridge is 20 feet away from those at the back of the horse train. The ridge itself is easy enough to climb over with a DC 10 Climb check and the height is just above the horses head.

Perception 15:
The goblins look crazed, their eyes gleaming a viscous red.

So party goes first. Post in any order. I took the average initiative of all six of you. We can see how this style works if you like it stick with if not we can just try a different approach.

Grand Lodge

Male Dwarf Rogue Level 2

Trapper wheels his horse around, notches his arrow, and fires at the screeching Goblin.

Acrobatics, to turn the horse and fire
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Ranged Attack +4 with short bow, + 1 for hatred of Goblins
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9

Male Human Wizard / 1st

Talberon, keying off the events around him rather than his own senses, pulled up his light crossbow and turned over the back of his horse.

'Not the smoothest of actions,' he thought, as he realized he did not have the skill to spin his mount, 'and I'd rather be facing away from whatever threat there may be.

Not picking any one target out, he found one and squeezed the lever.
