Order of the Amber Die—The Strange Aeons Experiment, Part 5

They made it off the map! Well, off the map of the Inner Sea and deep into parts unknown. The folks from the Order of the Amber Die recently completed their fifth marathon session of running the delightfully creepy Strange Aeons Adventure Path. I'm going to keep this introduction short and let all of you dive right into the action as the Order of the Amber Die recaps their experiences with Pathfinder Adventure Path #113: What Grows Within.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary 6 (PFRPG)

Literary Monsters of Bestiary 6

For this last Bestiary 6 post (the book officially released yesterday, so I can't really call it a preview post!), I want to build upon last week's post, where I talked a bit about monsters from mythological sources. In this case, since these creatures aren't protected by copyright law and aren't the intellectual property of content creators, the field is wide open—we can create specific creatures based on these things in the same way we can stat up things like donkeys and rats. But there's another category of inspiration that we often draw upon that's a bit trickier—literary sources.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Class Guide (OGL)

The New Wave of Character Decks

Hey Paizonians, Lone Shark has just turned over the files for the sixth wave of class decks—which are sometimes called character decks now, because we're having fun experimenting with new class-agnostic formats, but we can't stop calling them class decks, and this is a really long sentence now. Anyway, the Magus Class Deck, the Pathfinder Tales Character Deck, and Hell's Vengeance Character Deck 1, are all in Vic and Sonja's hands. Suffice it to say, we went a bit nuts on the new cards in these sets. Maybe a lot nuts.

Adventures Worth Holding Your Breath For

Just as the Seattle area transitions from chilly and wet to "sunny yet inexplicably still raining," so too is the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild team eager to get outside and explore some exciting locations. We're also pleased to have an exciting Season 9 schedule in place along with the name and logo, much of which we'll announce at PaizoCon 2017, so be sure to attend the PaizoCon Preview Banquet and the organized play panel the following day to ask any questions you have. In the meantime, let me share a few more secrets about this month's scenarios—both of which lead into our PaizoCon releases!

Here Comes the Cavalry

Happy Friday, everyone! This week in Pathfinder Battles, we start with the reclamation cavalry miniature, which is a large rare in the upcoming Crown of Fangs set, and is based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path. I love the in motion look of this miniature. It makes an awesome miniature for any armored fighter, or cleric, war priest, or paladin of Iomedae!

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Adventurer's Guide (PFRPG)

It's Dangerous to Go Alone!

On the heels this month's sixth Bestiary volume comes the Pathfinder RPG Adventurer's Guide! Being an adventurer comes with it's own set of perilous challenges, but with the help of allies, a well-supplied pack, and an alliance with one of Golarion's powerful organizations, your character can go far. Until we begin exploring the finer details of the Adventurer's Guide on the blog over the next few weeks, take a look at the just-revealed final cover, featuring prolific characters from the Pathfinder campaign setting.

Mythological Monsters of Bestiary 6

Now that Bestiary 6 is making the rounds and folks have had a chance to get over the shock of seeing archdevils and kaiju and qlippoth lords and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and empyreal lords and all sorts of other powerful creatures like the ones we spoke of last week, I'd like to thank humanity as a whole for being such an endless font of inspiration. We've been creating monsters to fill our stories and myths since we first started telling stories and weaving myths, and over the thousands and thousands of years humanity's been around, well, that's a lot of time to create a lot of monsters!

Starship Combat—I Am a Leaf on the Wind

From androids manipulating reality with technomagic to goblins in spacesuits wielding barely functioning laser pistols, the Starfinder RPG covers the majority of weird and exciting science-fantasy tropes. But it would be a poor game that takes place among the stars if it didn't have starships! Luckily, Starfinder gives you all you need to play the crew of an intrepid vessel exploring the galaxy—and getting into trouble along the way.

Giving Back to the Community

As we ramp up convention season, not that it feels like it ever truly slowed down, I'm processing many event support requests. Each month, a handful of conventions note that they are supporting a charity or raising money to donate to a group. In 2015, we ran a spotlight blog on the Minnaepolis-St. Paul extraordinary fundraising efforts during SkalCon. The blog included photos of Venture-Captain (retired) John Dehning and Andrew Christensen undergoing the clippers as an incentive for donations. If you missed it, you can see the blog here. Today felt like a great day to highlight some of our other charity events.

Powerful Monsters

Bestiary 6 is slithering out into the world, but even though the book is out there, I've still got a few more things to chat about the contents. Going forward, we'll continue to sow off some art from the book but these posts will be more "behind the scenes" than "monster previews."

Fantasy All Around You & OPC Character Contest Voting

I spent the past weekend on a trip to Grand Canyon National Park. Driving there, my family and I passed a variety of different climate zones. We went from the desert of Las Vegas to the scrub of Nevada/Arizona border to the pine forests surrounding Flagstaff to the windswept gorge of Grand Canyon. As a side note, the area around Flagstaff reminds me of growing up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In each place, our talk turned to what fantasy creatures would occupy such areas. The walk along the canyon rim started with the observation that we forgot Gobby, our Pathfinder Goblin, and couldn't take photos. That spawned discussion of goblins living in the canyon rim and launching sneak attacks against unsuspecting hikers, followed by the observation that trolls would probably like the rim and orcs the deeper crevasses.

As mentioned in last week's PFS blog, voting for the “OPC Needs a New Character” contest was supposed to open on April 10th. Unfortunately, the Paizo goblins decided to get involved and wreck a little havoc on our plans. As a result, we are postponing the competition voting and blog until Friday, April 14th, with voting stretching until Friday, April 21st.

OPC Log — 3 Gozran 4717

I spent last weekend at Who's Yer Con in Indianapolis, Indiana, and am traveling back to rainy Seattle. So much rain, the region is breaking records! This weekend gave me the chance to hang out with folks from our Great Lakes region in a setting a bit more personal than Gen Con. I got to play some, run some, and chat quite a bit! Thank you to Venture-Captain Mark Stratton and his team for putting on a quality event and having me out!
