I’m not taking an AoO without flanking, I’m not attacking at all until I’ve fully spooled up. Can’t poke the bear until my stick is long enough and all that. I make my save, he misses me and as an Immediate action I will use a Panache point to activate Underfoot Assault. Mr Reaper has a -4 penalty to his attacks vs targets that are not me as long as I am attached to him in addition to his -6 penalty to hit me. On my turn I am going to fight defensively and turn on Combat Expertise, boosting my AC by 4 and 3 respectively. Now I am ready. Full attack. Bunch of misses.
Will Save: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 - 1 = 26
Will Save: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 - 1 = 29
Tally patiently waits as she goes for a little ride on the Reaper. Avoiding getting distracted by flashing colors, she uses the opportunity of the missed attack to climb inside of the Reaper’s robes and fully focuses on her defense. She begins to sing to herself to calm her nerves.
Now I got you where I want yah.

I mean, the rainbow pattern was very pretty - so it probably drew your eye, but no, no one was fascinated by it without moving/being moved through it. Clover's back up.
Each turn you take a save to see if you're affected til your next turn. You don't become immune for future rounds from a pass, nor are you permanently afflicted from a fail.
The pillar pulses once more as the ritual reaches a critical point. But with all but one of its anchoring stones disrupted, the Pillar struggles in vain to stop its magic from collapsing. The Pillar trembles, and a psychic scream echoes through the minds of everyone within Gallowspire. The last wisps of magic drift away from the Pillar’s surface, filling the room with a quiet fog, and the taste of corruption fades from the air.

Tally refuses. It you wanna peek under my spoiler tab Gaétan, you can. You actually made me change my mind so I feel like it’s the least I can do.
As the specter of death crumbles, Tally let’s herself fall to the ground. She thuds against the cold floor as dark whispers fill the room as well as her mind with promises of life unending in exchange for simple favor. The temptation is there, it’s pull strong. She sits up suddenly and is about to speak and welcome this knowledge into its new home and give it refugee from oblivion, but Gaétan’s words still ring in the air and give her pause.
The lad is right. Things grow old and their time passes. Someday the Cóiste Bodhar will catch me when I’m too old and feeble to get away, but that’s is how it’s supposed to be. Oh Shelyn of course, it’s like the beer I make! Nothing is supposed to last forever, and that’s what makes it beautiful. Drink me while you can world, you can only cry when the tap runs dry.
Tally puts her head back on the floor and continues singing softy to herself as the cacophony of voices die down. She pulls out a locket from under her armor and holds it tightly, knowing she made the right choice.
Agata |
Agata giggles telepathically to the Whispers. "Oh, ye want t' give me yer knowledge does ye? I've no doubt ye think t' corrupt ole Agata, sure as the Tyrant's lost his voicebox! **OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT**
Glowing with holy light, Ollysta pauses for a moment to rally the Pathfinders. “This will be the hour of our glory, Pathfinders! We strike against the Whispering Tyrant!” She turns her gaze to a spectral dragon circling overhead. The dragon unleashes a wall of negative energy, dissolving Pathfinders where they stand. With steely resolve, Ollysta charges toward the dragon, running on the air. “By Sarenrae’s light, begone!” she cries, as her longsword connects with its wispy form. A gaping hole appears in its chest as holy energy burns away its corrupted body. The dragon rounds on Ollysta, tearing into her with an onslaught of teeth, claws, and razor-edged wings. Ollysta’s wounds are mortal, but the paladin isn’t finished. Her sacred longsword is just as unrelenting as the dragon’s attack. With a triumphant blow, she decapitates the dragon. Its body collapses into a ball of purifying light. The same light envelops Ollysta’s shattered form. As her strength fades, expression of pure serenity crosses her face. With a sigh, she closes her eyes for the last time. She drifts to the ground, landing gently on her back.
GM Cwethan |
With Ollysta and Shevar slain, the push into the depths of Gallowspire is in danger of foundering without appropriate leadership! The other experienced Pathfinders can probably take care of themselves, but that leaves plenty of teams in the Black Caverns that could certainly use your aid!
The trail has been well marked and explored, what could have taken several hours instead taking only an hour and a half to traverse.
The signs of your colleagues' passage grow fresher and fresher until you emerge into the bottom of a deep chasm where a river of blood flows, a bridge spanning the chasm above you in a low arc.
This is it.
You have 3 rounds for buffing here.

As you arrive, something stirs far across the chasm. Crusted with rock, this immense skeletal figure flies swiftly through the air, strange gasses clinging to its nightmarish form. In its wake come a pair of ghostly desiccated corpses, each surrounded by a whirling cloud of translucent humanoid spirits!

Arillia Kaenath |
During the hunt, Arillia will use two charges of her Wand of Infernal Healing to recover her health and restore her False Life.
False Life: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
If memory serves, another hour and a half would put us past the limit of our original 10/minute spells, wouldn't it? If that's the case, Arillia restores Heroism, See Invisibility and Shield on herself before the encounter starts. She likely won't have Barkskin, so her basic AC will be down to 30 for now, but her incorporeal touch will be up to 26.
"Someone really got themselves a way out here," she says as the group hunts for the lost Pathfinders.
As the enemies appear and the group recognizes the nature of their enemies, Arillia calls a command word to retrieve a vial from her haversack. "That thing likes it dark, does it? Let's see how bright we can make things." She uses her Oil of Daylight on her wayfinder, hopefully negating any darkness tricks.
"If we need to come up with some electricity to finish off those ghostly creatures, I can get it. There won't be a lot though."
Agata |
Agata's 10 minute/level buffs - Investigative Mind & See Invisibility - were both Extended and therefore should still be up.
True Seeing & Death Ward have both expired for Agata.
Agata has one prep of Heroism that she has not used. Does anyone need it?
3 rounds of buffing:
Agata casts Heightened Awareness from her wand (which she dismisses when rolling initiative), activates her Aura of Purity, and activates Fortune (Split Hex) + Cackle on Marcus and Tally.
Re: deeper darkness: Agata wears a ring with heightened continual flame (level 6, caster level 11).
Eyeing the creatures before them, Agata sighs. "Undead will be immune to many o' me tricks, more's the pity. But me sweet smell (i.e. her aura of purity) should protect ye from them gasses, if'n ye want t' come close t' ole Agata. Not many does, but them that has ain't regretted it! I ain't too fond o' them whispy fellers, that's the truth, but I've a little surprise fer them too." Agata will cast anti-incorporeal shell for anyone who wants to come inside of it.
Zadeh Ibn Jad |
My 10min/level buffs we are also exntended except for stoneskin so you still have barkskin Arilia. I will have recast Stoneskin when it ran out. For our three budff rounds I will drop shield and the mirror image wand for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 images
@Agata, anti incorporeal shell has a 1 round casting time. Zadeh also wears a heightened continual flame but not sure how that will combine with his invisibility.
Zadeh draws out a small badge and pins it to his cloak, it glows merrily. I can provide electrical damage if needed he whispers, but lets get them down first
He waves a hand and a group of strange, sinuous snakes appears surrounding one of the Nemhains!
Summon: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Agata |
Agata has prepped Quickened Anti-Incorporeal Shell :-)
Summmoned Hypnalis |
As one, the Hypnalis strike out at the yellow Nemhain with their magical fangs!
Hypnalis fang attacks are treated as ghost touch. I am unclear if that allows for sneak attack or not, ghost touch says you deal damage to incorporeal creatures normally, regardless of bonus.
A ghost touch weapon deals damage normally against incorporeal creatures, regardless of its bonus. An incorporeal creature’s 50% reduction in damage from corporeal sources does not apply to attacks made against it with ghost touch weapons. The weapon can be picked up and moved by an incorporeal creature at any time. A manifesting ghost can wield the weapon against corporeal foes. Essentially, a ghost touch weapon counts as both corporeal or incorporeal.
Each Hypnalis is flanking the Nemhain which is hpefully also flatfooted.
Bite, flank: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Sneak if applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
Bite, flank: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 15 + 2 = 35
Damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Sneak if applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Bite, flank: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 15 + 2 = 30
Damage: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Sneak if applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Each can grab as well but I dont think ghost touch gets past the incorporeal immunity to combat maneivers.

Since Agata has the light situation covered, Arillia would like to take a different action.
Arillia readies to counterspell the first creature that casts a threatening attack spell. She has to recognize it anyway, so let's say she ignores anything minor like 3rd level spells and below...not that we're likely to see those.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (8) + 23 = 31 - that's up to 9th level so I'm good there.
Greater Dispel Magic (counterspell +4 mode): 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 16 + 4 = 30 - dispels CL 19 or lower
"Agata, shall we try to hack the big one next?"
Agata |
Earlier (whenever Geatan's Heroism expired), Agata casts her final Heroism on Geatan.
"Surely, dearie. It ain't no Sweet Mawd, but mayhaps ye kin teach it t' make tea?"
Unless something crazy happens on its turn, Agata will try to Misfortune the giant skeleton, to (hopefully) set it up for Arillia to take control of it.

**OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT**
Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury raises a banner, calling out to the expedition’s medics. “Pathfinders, the brave heroes leading the charge need your help. They cannot be allowed to fall before the Whispering Tyrant’s servants! Come with me, and let us tend to their wounds so they may fight on!” Players, you can send your Medic Aid Characters on this mission.
GMs, please begin the Aid Mission (Medic).
Marcus Samuel |
Marcus will have someone wand him back to full and use his other Restoration scroll to remove the negative levels on the way, then trigger his final Torturer's Mettle during the prep rounds.
Wand CLW, Fast Healer, Fey Foundling: 5d8 + 5 + 5 + 10 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 1, 2) + 5 + 5 + 10 = 30
With the 10 temp HP during the last battle this should have him at full.
GM Cwethan |
I counted the temp hp in the -40, Marcus (45-5 DR, +10 from 2 negative levels, -10 from temp hp), so you'll need another charge or two from the wand.
Ghost touch should make their sneak attacks work just fine, but I agree that ghost touch fangs won't allow for grapples :-)
That said, several of the snakes seem to have been placed inside the chasm wall... They can make their attacks, by having half of them be flying 5' above. So no flank, but still Sneak Attacks for flat-footed
If your continual flame is uncovered, then you will be pinpointable, but not targetable.
It's been just over 300 minutes from the portal after this last 90 minutes, so Zadeh's extended spells will have dropped off recently, Agata's are still up.
The nest of Hypnales swarm around the Nemhain, flickering fangs pinning it in place for a full barrage of Gaétan's arrows! By all rights even a ghost should have been dispersed by such punishment, but the Nemhain refuses to be destroyed...
The Tzitzimitl pays no heed to the distress of its retainer, its attention entirely fixed on the threats it has seen. A deadly archer, and a mage who's planning something...
A glowing beam of force erupts from its eyes, slamming into Arillia with terrible force as it swoops closer, barely passing beneath the bridge, to hang over the party like a dark cloud.
Eye Beam: 1d20 + 17 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 17 + 1 = 23

Standard action to hex Tzitzimitl with Misfortune. DC 29 Will negates.
Move action to cackle, extending duration of Misfortune (if it worked) and Fortune (on Marcus and Tally) by 1 round.
We haven't seen what the gasses surrounding the giant skeleton can do yet but reminder to the rest of the party: Agata has activated Aura of Purity in a 10' radius around her. It "Diseases, inhaled poisons, and noxious gaseous effects" are negated within the aura.
Anti-incorporeal shell is also a mobile 10' radius around Agata and should (I hope!) keep the Nemhains out.
Duration of current hexes (assuming Fortune & Cackle just before rolling initiative):
* Fortune on Marcus & Tally expires before Agata's turn on Round 5
* Misfortune (if it succeeds) expires before Agata's turn on Round 5
GM Cwethan |

The Tzitzimitl appears very wary of possible tricks, and rather than take a free swing at Marcus, instead shatters the potion as he raises it to his lips!
The Nemhains surge forward as well, one skims along the chasm floor to smack right into Agata's shell; the other limps away from the chomping Hypnales, though none of their strikes seem to be able to harm it any further than its existing wounds!
Frustrated by their exclusion from the fray, the Nemhains send forth spells from the cloud of spirits that surround them! The fragmentary spirits aren't possessed of enough spiritual matter to be stopped* by Agata's shell and bring terrible, Harmful spells with them!
One of them is stopped by Arillia's expert spellwork, the other by her wards of force!
You can feel the river of blood swell with energy, restoring the injured Nemhain to greater health, while beginning to drain away at those of you close to it. Ending near (5'), or worse in, the blood will deal negative energy damage
Ranged Touch Attack, Yellow: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23
Heals: 8d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6) = 34
Round 1/2
You've just gotten into the bottom of a 50' deep Chasm. The Ceiling goes up another 100' past that.

1) From a RAW perspective, they aren't creatures, and are instead a ranged touch attack
2) They are specifically described as impervious to all magic except for a very short list (dispel evil, raise dead, resurrection, or true resurrection).
3) Since Anti-Incorporeal Shell allows Spell Resistance, it would definitely be magic that is acting on incorporeal things.
I might have had it block them if it were only the first argument, since I believe that descriptive text should inform RAW readings when possible, but felt that the specifics of this ability meant that they had a way through.
Tally McMillen |
I’m activating my Unfettered Shirt to give me Freedom of Movement and diving at the world ender.
“I do not like us all being stacked up like we are. Be careful!”
Tally flies towards the undead giant and tries to climb inside its rib cage.
Climb Check: 1d20 + 42 ⇒ (17) + 42 = 59
Climb Check: 1d20 + 42 ⇒ (17) + 42 = 59
Where did The Baphoon get these things from? Managing these monsters under one roof must be a nightmare!
GM Cwethan |
The Tzitzimitl greets Tally with a mighty chomp, draining her life force away as electricity arcs across her frame! She wriggles free from the bite, hiding inside its tremendous ribcage against future reprisals.
Bite: 1d20 + 26 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 26 + 1 - 5 = 38
Bite Damage + Lightning: 2d8 + 14 + 10 + 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 14 + 10 + (4, 6, 6) = 50 And two negative levels

Time for a strategic reposition he mutters and defensively casts a spell.
Defensively casting dimension door, I cannot fail. I can take up to 5 other people with me so that is everyone next to me. I have moved myself onto the cliff above, well away from the river of death. If you want to come with put yourself up on the cliff adjacent to me.

The Nemhain and Tzitzimitl exact a vicious toll on the swarming Hypnales, tearing apart those who gave them both the opportunity in exchange for a few nasty bites that tear away at the Nemhain's foul being.

Gaétan's latest barrage and Marcus's lash sends both Nemhains tumbling back, tattered and riddled with arrows, though one of them still retains its full speed!
The Tzitzimitl gazes up balefully at the escaping Pathfinders, gradually rising to the top of the chasm, until, certain that no more tricks lie in store, it unleashes an all too familiar spell...
The dreadful shriek of the banshee's wail rises to an unbearable pitch, striking at the very core of your soul's connection to your body!
Concentration: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (1) + 29 = 30
Its caution is the Tzitzimitl's downfall, as Tally's distracting presence within its ribcage causes it to fumble the entire spell!

Arillia Kaenath |
Shaken by the Tzitzimitl's attempt to use a death spell, Arillia prepares again to defeat enemy spellcasting.
This time only counterspell the Nemhain if it uses an attack that could bring down multiple people. Harm is scary, but Wail of the Banshee is too big a threat to not reserve for.
Greater Dispel Magic: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 4 = 28
Edit: I forgot that I offered to let Marcus fly, so let's quicken that on him as well.

Standard action to Fortune Zadeh (none of his summons are within 30' of Zadeh, and I have no other viable targets for a second Fortune via Split Hex); Move action to Cackle.

5' step to the Northeast, to get within 30' of Blue Nemhain; Standard action to Split Hex Misfortune Blue & Yellow, DC 29 Will negates; Move action to Cackle.
[ooc]Duration of current hexes:

* Misfortune on Blue and Yellow (if they failed their saves) expires before Agata's turn on Round 6

Get the enemy, I will be fine!
Agata |
Get the enemy, I will be fine!
In light of that, I've adjusted Agata's position on the map - she took a 5' step to get within 30' of Blue. Both Blue and Yellow need to make DC 29 Will saves vs Misfortune.
